The Kids from Fame (and related Fame stuff)

I'm going.

Really worried it's going to be tragic.
Let us know how it goes, sadly I couldn't convince anyone to come with me.

I would love to have seen Dame Valerie Landsburg sing Hi-Fidelity live, I'm sure you'll have a great time!

Post dream I watched back the show performance of Starmaker - which always makes me well up.

Did they re-record it for the album as Erica Gimpel isn’t in the scene but I’m sure is on the record? A couple of the other lines seem swapped over too, plus the show version has a nice piano ending whereas it fades out on the record.

I love Starmaker so much. It makes me really emotional to listen to. My dad passed recently and when I was young we would play it and the theme song a lot in the car.

When I was little I was so obsessed with The Wizard Of Oz and they did an OZ themed episode, that actually started me on my love of Fame. The show aired on Saturday mornings here in Ireland and the movie is, of course, incredible. I remember we sat down to watch it when I was small and my mom turned it off, appalled, as they thought it was the same vibe at the tv show ha.

It always reminds me of a lady I worked with who was like a surrogate mom to me. She died last year.

Less sentimentally, it also always goes though my head when GBBO names its 'Star Baker'...

My inner child (nerd) seems to remember that Erica had to go back to complete high school around that time (she went to the actual High School of Performing Arts the show is based on), so it's likely they recorded a version initially (for the show and the release), but maybe had to drop in new vocals by others when she couldn't be in the episode.

Quite of lot of the songs in the episodes differ from the released versions, and considering the very high volume of tracks being recorded for the show, it was probably quite easy to drop in new vocals at short notice.

For the Starmaker lovers, it was originally recorded by the songwriter Bruce Roberts (who wrote 'Enough is Enough' amongst many other hits). It was on his first album (a real MOR corker from the mid 70s).

Bruce Roberts was the writer, producer and singing voice of Danny Bonaduce (Partridge Family), and I've heard tell that Starmaker was written in hindsight about the good and bad elements of that experience from his early career.

I vaguely seem to remember - in the first season at least - that one of main characters was usually absent in each episode, like a rostered episode off, so maybe she just wasn't in that one.

Hi-Fidelity was clearly also re-recorded.
