The Kids from Fame (and related Fame stuff)

I can't believe Starmaker was a cover! It sounds tailormade for that scene in Fame. Glad it found it's rightful home in the end.

Absolutely. The Fame version is the best. And considering what was happening behind and front of the scenes during that particular scene makes it even more emotional.

I will say, I listened to Bruce Roberts' version today and it's very good. It's such a beautiful song and I love the lyrics.

I have fallen down a Fame rabbit hole on YouTube and have become oddly obsessed with Nia Peeples, she really reminds me of Paula Abdul and more than anyone else (other than Janet Jackson obviously) she really looks and sounds like a popstar

Unlike any of the other Kids From Fame (again, other than Janet) I know she did have a short lived pop career in the US after the series ended.

I also had no idea they updated the theme song for the last 2 seasons with a "modern, synthesized hard-rock flavour" version which I actually really like

I really hope NOW 80s show the entire run for the first time on UK TV. I'd love to get to the Billy Hufsey/Janet Jackson/Nia Peeples seasons. I always enjoy a show when the original cast leave and it starts to go down the dumper and gets a bit ropey but you keep watching anyway. By my calculations it should take 45 weeks to see all 6 seasons so fingers crossed!

The showrunners have said
they truly regret killing off Peeple's character. I remember I wasn't really watching the show by '86/87 but was surprised when she was killed off. These were the days when it was a major, MAJOR thing when a leading character was killed off. Now it seems more common, weirdly enough.

Peeples did have a brief career as a pop singer. Trouble and Street of Dreams were top 40 hits. And "You Don't Have to Ask Me Twice" from the Sing soundtrack is a bop.

I didn't know that, what happened to her? (put it in spoilers if need be as I had never heard that before).

I added Trouble and Street of Dreams on streaming tonight, love those two.

This one, sung by my two favourite Fame ladies Valerie Landsburg and Nia Peeples, sounds like Kim Wilde's Water On Glass which isn't surprising as it was written by Marty Wilde and Ricky Wilde!

Anyone else watching Fame this morning when it disappeared for half an hour replaced by Christmas videos only for it to come back on for the last 5 minutes? We missed Starmaker - fuming! At least it did come back on in time for this absolute banger
