Ah, yes, before we move on to our first 11, we need to say goodbye to another extra track, which is a final one of the "JAPONESQUE" era. Written by Kumi and the aforementioned Matthew Tishler and produced by the latter and Daniel J Plante (Hirai Ken's and Amuro Namie's "GROTESQUE" !!!), the track was released during Kumi's pregnancy to quench the fans' thirst for new music. It was included on a remix album "Beach Mix" as the first track and received a music video conveniently depicting only Kumi's head and hands. The version that is on the album has one EDM break after the first chorus that is, for some reason, different to the one used in the musc video, which has the same 3 instrumental parts after the choruses. Weird. Anyhow, this is a total blast. It is borderline trashy EDM ditty, but that's why I love it. The chorus' melody is catchy AF and it always lingers with me after I listen to this. Lyrical content is a bit of a mess linguistically, but it's about summer and partying:

I'm so sorry, @RUNAWAY. Maybe you knew, maybe you didn't, maybe it's karma, dddd. Written by Kumi and produced by Sugiyama Katsuhiko (Nakashima Mika's "Ichiban Kirei na Watashi wo", "Dear" and "Ashita Sekai ga Owaru Nara"), the song was the first a-side of Kuu's 48th single, with the second being "Anata Dake ga". The single also had a revampred version of "walk" for Kumi's 10th anniversary. All three songs received a music video that have a connected story. Remember misono? Guess it wasn't her final mentioning in the rate after all, as she starred in two of the three music videos. The song in question is a pretty epic sounding ballad. I appreciate how it has it all: the guitar, the bass, the beat, the strings. They certainly went all out with the instruments. Kumi's performance here is one of her best, as the song gets progressively bigger and more emotional, so does Kumi. Say what you want, but you do start to believe that she actually truly loves this guys she's singing about. I would say that the verses and the chorus are a little disjointed, but I guess they had to be so that the chorus shined even brighter. Lyrically it's all about hopeless Kumi, her hopeless guy and their hopeless love:

@abael (5) doesn't appreciate a couple of ballads following each other on the albums apparently, "Pulling a double-ballad? Deja Vu indeed." When these are so good though, it's no bother at all.
@otenkiame (7) loves the emotion on display and like me prefers the second a-side of the single, "I feel this is the inferior a-side to "Anata Dake ga". Not to say it's bad, though. It's definitely got Kuu's signature ballad style with all the dramatics and the like, but doesn't fall into forgettable territory. It really shines towards the end when she adds all that emotion." I think it really grew on me with time. Maybe it will for you as well. But then again, I'm a hopeless hehe Kumi stan.
Leave it to @Cutlery (10) to mince it, eat it all up and ask for more, "Another phenomenal ballad. I'm a huge fan of the duality when the previous track was piano and light, while this is acoustic and string-heavy. Kuu is able to emote so well, particularly in the chorus! Giving us strength, hopeless romantic, and bittersweet memories all at once" Surprisingly I never thought of the two in juxtoposition, which is... really weird on my part, considering how on the nose this is.
@RUNAWAY (11), naturally, had some strong words about this one, "this is it. this is honestly my…...favorite Kumi song. Ever? I don’t know. Maybe tied with you or D.D.D. Her voice is just so stunning in this song, and the absolute emotion it makes me feel….QUEEN. These lyrics are some of her best ever, and this song is just….the best. The final chorus never fails to make me tear up." That's a lovely trio of songs to have as your ultimate favorites of Kuu's and I was immensely happy that you gave your 11 to a proper ballad. So sorry it's the first to go, balladophobia be damned.

And with that the whole "Can We Go Back" single and the last of the extra tracks from the "UNIVERSE" era is gone. Written by Kumi and composed by one of main Hamasaki Ayumi producers, Nakano Yuta, the song was a b-side for the said single. This is delightful. The happiness is bursting at the seams on this one and I love that feeling of warmth and love for your loved one that is so prevailent here. Love how fast Kumi sings the Japanese lines in the chorus. I would love for it to have one last big chorus or maybe a key change at the end, but it pretty perfect as it is. The lyrics? You already know it by now:

@abael (8) used the commentary for this one to go deep and reminisce about the past winners, "Has all the ingredients to make something great, but something about this track is a bit under-done. There’s a lack of energy from either KK or the production team, an issue that has been a recurring one that I hope doesn’t last too long. The spark of originality from the previous winning tracks that had me seeking this rate out hasn’t appeared yet."
@otenkiame (9) would definitely like a word with our lower scorers, "Just a wonderful, fun and bright pop song. There really isn't anything not to love about this. It's the perfect amount of cute and infectious melodies, definitely giving the impression of a good day. Can't imagine not at least liking this."
@RUNAWAY (9) claimed this deserved more, "this song was wasted as a b-side. it’s so good, it definitely should have been on the album!" Actually, this could have been switched with "SUPERSTAR" pretty easily, for instance.
@Music Is Life (10) mentioned someone I don't know and Britney in one comment, "The handclaps remind me of Brit’s Boys, which is never a bad thing. This song actually does feel like something Britney could have done, so of course I’m going to love it dddd. Seriously the production is a lot of fun, and the “I’ll be there for you” hook is immaculate."
Kumi performed the song live for the first time in a medley during the "UNIVERSE Tour". It got its own performance, even with a live band, at a fanclub live "Let's Party Vol.2".
I'm only referring to Britney and her song Boys dddd.

Love how this stayed at #37 for the most part of the voting. Written by UA and composed by a popular producer Asamoto Hirofumi (lots of good 90s R'n'B songs), the track was originally released by UA in 1996. The original song was a bit of a hit and had a little more of R'n'B flavor to it, which played amazingly with UA's whispery vocals, while Kumi's version sounds more cabaret-like. It was included on Kuu's second cover album "Color The Cover" as track #4 and remains one of my most liked covers of hers, hence its inclusion in the rate. The relentless flow of memorable melodies and Kuu's lovely vocals wash all over me and everything is right in the world. I also definitely appreciate how she changes up the delivery here and there and the sped-up last chorus, as those only add to the replayability of the song. I would say, that something went wrong during the mastering though, as Kumi's voice does sound a little drowned out, but apart from that, and the fact that I'm the only one, who gave this a full score, this is an amazing take on a classic. The lyrics are about passionate love, what else?

We're back to "Bon Voyage" after giving it a bit of a breather. Written by Kumi and Kalis from OVDS and produced by Tommy Henriksen ("BUT", "FREAKY") and Chioma Eze (Allison Iraheta's "Still Breathing"), the track is a newer album track from "Bon Voyage" and features the aforementioned Taiwanese EDM band OVDS. Why do I get a feeling that this is exactly the type of slightly trashy music Kumi absolutely adores? I mean it's really not bad, especially considering that Tommy was at the helm once again. The questionable verses aside, the chorus is pretty ecstatic and that middle 8 brings me right to the dancefloor. Kalis, who I assume is delivering the rapping parts, is totally fine and doesn't take away anything from the song. It also sounds like it's going to pop the fuck off in the live environment. What can I say, Kumi is a musical chameleon after all. The lyrical content of this is about cranking tha bass, of course:

If it's not the cute sounding vocals, than it's cat's screeching that is not to @otenkiame's (6) liking, "One of those songs that lowkey irritate me but I still bop to. What irritates me is the way Kuu sings. She sounds like a screeching cat at times, being a little too extra, in my opinion. I do really like the rockish arrangement it has, and OVDS are actually pretty good too. That middle eight is great, though." At least we agree about our favorite part.

Welp, if it's not a cat, it's a donkey for @Cutlery (9), "Balls-to-the-wall with Kumi playing with her voice in such an over-the-top way she almost sounds like a donkey at times, a rockout chorus, a sample that sounds like distilled Boo sounds and BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM" Asinine chanteuse.
In the end the only true statement was provided by @Music Is Life (9,5), "WHOA KAY Koda you’re just coming for everyone and everything aren’t you?" Yes, she is.
