Probably a last minute choice and they decided to go with Brown Eyes instead of Fooled Me Again?

I think that's the case. Both "Brown Eyes" and "Fooled Me Again" are great to me, but the latter could've been a bonus track instead of "Again, Again".

But the complete erasure of "Let Love Down" (no performances, other uses, or even mentions of the song) is a bit upsetting to me.

I love the 'Brown Eyes' performance on Jonathan Ross. It's a great track, but she definitely had stronger similar type of ballads in the vault.

My problem with Brown Eyes is that it sounds way too much like Vienna by Billy Joel. I love the track but Fooled Me Again (Honest Eyes) and Let Love Down are way stronger and more their own thing. It still baffles me that the former was used in The Fame trailer but isn't included anywhere as a bonus track.

It's neither the weakest nor the strongest single from "The Fame", but it sure does deserve to stay for a long time.

Whew, the single choices from "The Fame" really are something - no scores lower than a 9,5 to all five of them.
I'm not counting "Beautiful, Dirty, Rich" as an official single, but it's great.
