The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

Sure it was coming off the high of No Way Home but it’s good to be reminded on how the Scarlet Witch had a huge impact in that movie financially.
Oh for sure. I actually loved the first Dr Strange movie, so I was there for a sequel regardless, but this was the Wanda show for real. And while it definitely has its faults, I don't hate Dr Strange 2 either.

But I'm still surprised that it's going to outperform Black Panther 2, after the rather tepid response to everything other than Wanda.

On a different note, I just finished the Guardians Holiday Special and it was cute and rather lovely in places. Mantis was an expected highlight.

Maybe people are getting tired of the Marvel format but any discussion of box office really needs to take into account that we’re in a very different economic situation than we were when Wandaverse came out.

Especially when the film will likely be on the far cheaper subscription service by February, what’s the urgency to see it in the cinema? Not to mention families are being squeezed so a whole family trip to the cinema is a bigger expense than usual which will likely hurt these films. I know we like to get into the weeds of box office returns but there’s way more at play here than Marvel burnout.

My local has jacked up tickets to £19 so no wonder people aren’t going to the cinema.
Yeah the Odeon Luxe near me is £19 a ticket for the premium iSense screen for new movies. I went (I get cheaper tickets from my work) but I noticed zero difference. Total con. It's not like an IMAX or anything. But that price is frankly disgusting and totally unwarranted. It's no longer just a little unplanned treat for a family day out for the majority of people. It's probably totally out of reach for a lot now. Everyone is totally right that it's a major factor in the box office numbers dropping across the board.

And let's not get started on the food costs. Anyone who isn't taking their own food and drink is out of their mind.

I want to believe this. She deserves its success.

I also thought 'Wakanda Forever' would be a bigger hit than it seems to be right now. I think it's clearly a better movie than 'Doctor Strange 2', 'Love and Thunder' and even 'No Way Home', but sadly that doesn't mean a lot at the box office.

They should recast Quill, the actor looks so bored playing him. The holiday special was a bit of a waste but Mantis was great.

I kind of love Cosmo way more with an older voice like in the Guardians videogame. That game is a bitsy better story and characterization wise than all the films.

No need. Guardians 3 is supposedly his last.

It's been hinted that he'll die.
Good, what an annoying character.

This is so silly. It’s a bulge. To go in and make it smaller or flatter is such a ridiculous waste of time for a VFX artist. Especially when Scarlet Johansson had to permanently have her Black Widow jumpsuit zipped half way down… for the typical cleavage requirement for the fanboys. Marvel needs to focus that energy on the actual VFX in the scenes…

I swear he said the one on the right was the real one and the bulge was edited?

You're right, he definitely does.

Just in case anyone hasn't seen the movie, there's one particularly huge spoiler in that Rolling Stone interview. Here's that question specifically:

To put this delicately, there was a viral tweet with two photos in it that suggested maybe they did some CGI in your Speedo to make everything less prominent in the movie. Are you okay with that?
[Laughs] The only thing that I can say is: the original was the photo in the right. Without [the bulge]! That’s original. No, I mean, I’m not going to lie to people. Every man in the world, we have fragile masculinity, but not in that issue. I will say, the right one, the real one is the photo on the right.

It is manipulated in the left one but it’s definitely been tweaked in post on their end as you can compare the final shot on the right to what was in the first Teaser trailer. He got the Ken doll treatment.
