The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

Maybe they can crossover with another franchise for the third instalment - The Avengers V the Exotic Marigold Hotel. It can end with a nice tea party or a chase on push bikes.

Just seen the new Avengers movie. It was good but for me it was very style over substance. They shoehorned in way too many gags and one liners and at times I was even bored with some of the action sequences as it was all stuff we've seen before.

Overall not as great as the first movie but still a worthy addition to the franchise. 7/10.

does Wanda get a proper costume at the end?
SOME LIGHT SPOILERS

She does indeed and a brand new lace front.
I thoroughly enjoyed that. My face hurt from smiling for two and a half hours. Watching the Avengers be Heroes and evacuate the city instead of just destroying it was really great to see. All of the characterization was great and I'm itching to see what comes next from the Marvel Universe.

Ah please spoil it for me, I won't be able to see the film for a while!

I thought it was great, definitely one of the better MCU films. It's absolutely epic in scale and they jam packed a huge amount of stuff in so it did feel a little busy at times, but that's a minor complaint. It was a bit awkward how it was setting up future events (it wasn't as badly done as SpiderMan 2).

Basically, five stars but not as good as the first one or Cap 2.

I really enjoyed it. It was missing the humour of the first one although some woman felt the need to laugh at every little thing.

THE REST OF THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS SO DON'T READ AHEAD IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN!!!

I liked Scarlett Witch although they didn't do enough of the creep stuff. I liked at the start how she'd bewitch someone and then do that creepy backwards walk then vanish thing. It was very Japanese ghost girl style but then it just stopped.

I was surprised that they killed off an Avenger, I didn't expect them to kill off a new character but then again the team is already male heavy.
I really liked the Hawkeye subplot with his family, I liked that he got that extra screen time.
I've seen a lot of people saying they didn't like the Black Widow/Hulk stuff but I really, really liked it.

My only complaint is that the cast felt a bit bloated at times and they had to make sure everyone was given their time. They have the issue of having too many people in the team to handle.

I'm really not sure about The Vision. He looked like plasticine, I don't really think his look worked. They did such a good job with Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy so you know the look can be pulled off.

So the infinity stones for the next one. How will they ever top that? It's a huge story.

SPOILERS

Did anyone else think that Ultron's first scene where's he's like a Frankenstein robot looked absolutely terrifying? It was the beginnings of a majorly creepy villain. But then in the next scene, he's suddenly developed the personality of a sarcastic tumblr user and he's been redesigned to a completely non-threatening robot with a permanently gormless expression.

I also was briefly excited that we were going to get a dark exploration of the meaning of life and the ethics of artificial intelligence, but no, Tony Stark has created life, and everyone pretty much forgets about it five minutes later.

So the infinity stones for the next one. How will they ever top that? It's a huge story.

I'm not sure they'll have to. I'm hoping they have the sense to retire the Avengers following Infinity War. Since they're determined to not do Iron Man 4, I imagine they'll also steer clear of Thor 4 and Cap 4. And after a decade, the cast will probably be ready to move on.

Besides, it will all probably wrap up quite nicely for them. No doubt the time stone will come into play and Steve will finally get to settle down with Peggy.

I thought her hair looked different!
Well from listening to rupauls latest podcast I'm guessing the lace front was because that scene was from a reshoot and the actress had gone back to her old blonde hair.

On the topic of fierce lace fronts! It was great to get a good close up view of Black Widows when she was at the bar. totally unclockable, If it wasn't for the perfect so not natural hair line

I do think they need to be careful of not causing audience fatigue. There is only so many times you can something get blown up and find it exciting.

I know we've had superhero movies since the nineties and I think Marvel (and DC) are running the risk of over-saturating the market.

It already looks like Ant Man is free of city-in-peril type CGI overload.

I guess the only good thing to be said for city0wide destruction CGI is that at least it's better than fights on wires on cheap sound stages made to look like the Statue of Liberty (yes, you X-Men 1)

The solution is to expand the genre beyond the "city destruction" third act. I'm hopeful that quite a few upcoming comic book films will do something different. The like of 'Suicide Squad' and 'Wonder Woman' really don't need to resort to it.

SOME SPOILERS

Yes to the twins, I am in love with the brother but sadly his time has passed. UGH.

So here for a new Captain America, one of my favourites. I loved the ending and actually the second half in general. I rolled my eyes so damn hard to the "OMG HAWKEYE HAS A SECRET FAMILY!!1!!!" ridiculous plot.

As many people have pointed out, the movie is at its best when we get some character insight. I still despise Thor, he just fucking bugs me.

SOME SPOILERS ABOVE

Just saw the trailer for AntMan and it looks brilliant.

I loved Age of Ultron. It seems to be getting a more 'meh' response than the first film in terms of reviews and internet discussions.

I think it's infinitely better than the first one.

I think Captain America will continue, as will the Avengers, it will just be that the cast will change. Bucky is an obvious choice to become the new Cap and there's always Falcon too. Thor I think is less likely to continue, changing him to a woman is an option but an unlikely one for now. Then I think (based on Age of Ultron) - Iron Patriot could be the new 'Iron Man', with a role reversal for a solo movie (Iron Patriot being the main protagonist with Iron Man just being the sidekick).

Then with whichever of the new stars take off (Ant-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange) - I full expect Phase 4 to end with a 'New Avengers' movie. Although it's a long way off, there are many stories that could be used for material for more Avengers films and with Inhumans launching at the end of this 'era' I wouldn't be surprised if one big plot point is Avengers Vs. Inhumans (Inhumans are after all the MCU mutants).

It may all seem the distant, uncertain future, but I would be shocked if Marvel don't have a Phase 4, 5 and 6 at the very least in their minds.

He/They
SPOILERS.

Went to see Ultron last night, and I enjoyed it more than the first Avengers, but nowhere near as much as Guardians Of The Galaxy. The action scenes were superb, I loved seeing Hawkeye's family, and the ending was a great riff on the usual, city gets destroyed stuff, with a city destroying the world etc.
Having not really kept up with the MCU (bar the aforementioned films and Iron Man 1), out of the rest of them whats recommended viewing, as I feel the first Avengers gave me a need not to sit through the first Thor and Captain America films?
