The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU)

I think Captain America will continue, as will the Avengers, it will just be that the cast will change. Bucky is an obvious choice to become the new Cap and there's always Falcon too. Thor I think is less likely to continue, changing him to a woman is an option but an unlikely one for now. Then I think (based on Age of Ultron) - Iron Patriot could be the new 'Iron Man', with a role reversal for a solo movie (Iron Patriot being the main protagonist with Iron Man just being the sidekick).

Then with whichever of the new stars take off (Ant-Man, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange) - I full expect Phase 4 to end with a 'New Avengers' movie. Although it's a long way off, there are many stories that could be used for material for more Avengers films and with Inhumans launching at the end of this 'era' I wouldn't be surprised if one big plot point is Avengers Vs. Inhumans (Inhumans are after all the MCU mutants).

It may all seem the distant, uncertain future, but I would be shocked if Marvel don't have a Phase 4, 5 and 6 at the very least in their minds.

I do admit, if they keep a new generation of Avengers going strong for another three phases, the climax of phase 6 would be an amazing opportunity to bring back Iron Man or something, in a typical "old man advises the cast" kind of role, so that we can see a post-Avengers Tony Stark twenty years from now, and to make the whole thing feel like one long epic, rather than a continuing soap opera of superheroes.

Is there going to be a crossover of Guardians of The Galaxy and The Avengers at all? Guardians is phenomenal, I need to watch it for a second time.

Literally none of this will happen. Barring the obvious problem that comics and films are vastly different, it doesn't matter if Bucky "takes over" as Captain America, the brand of the Captain America will still be tired and spread thin, and to the audience, it'll just look like a weird reboot.

Yes, when Chris Evans finishes Infinity War they'll rest Cap for a while and make movies about the other characters until it's time for a proper reboot a decade or so down the line.

I like the idea of a steady rotation and bringing in new characters rather than beating the same ones to death.

I think it is quite likely that Captain America will continue beyond Chris Evans. I mean does anyone believe that phase 4, 5 and 6 will be carried by the likes of Ant-Man, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel? I don't think it's silly to expect a character like that to continue. I firmly believe Captain America and the Avengers go hand in hand and that both will continue.

Besides this, from what was last rumoured... Sebastian Stan is signed up for more movies than Chris Evans (potentially 9 to Chris' 6).

Why are we discussing Captain America as if the franchise rests on his shoulders when he can barely carry his own movie anyway? The Second was basically "Black Widow (ft. Captain America)" and the third will be "Iron Man (ft. Captain America)" and his films seem like more of a dumping ground for SHIELD nonsense that they need to do between Avengers movies, anyway.

I get the feeling you aren't a very big Captain America fan but to me, his films have so far held a great deal of sway in how the Universe works as a whole and what may be 'SHIELD nonsense' to you, triggered a huge shift in a TV show and pushed it from mediocre to good. Captain America wasn't upstaged in Winter Soldier, it was 100% his movie and if anything the fact he is the opposite of Black Widow in many ways helped flesh her out.

That kid signed a 3 movie contract and has said something about having to 'earn' the roles. To be honest I don't see any comparison there. Sebastian Stan is locked down for a potential 9 films, he isn't some minor character, in a little over a year we'll be 3 down, yes there are contract changes but it is obvious that what I think will happen has been a serious discussion over at Marvel.

I can agree that Captain America 4 isn't a certain at this point but I do strongly believe Bucky is there to take over, even if it's just as a minor character. So other than that, we're going to have to agree to disagree.

The second Captain America is up there as one of the best Marvel movies alongside Iron Man. The first is pretty poor and I hate the Thor movies.

Cap 2, along with Guardians, were the critical darlings of phase two. If they have the stories and Captain America: Civil War doesn't disappoint, they'll continue even if less regularly than they are now, which I'd have no issue with. They didn't sign Sebastian Stan up for nothing, and Chris Evans has distanced himself from all the speculation that he was done at the end of his current contract. Plus Captain America is the perfect franchise to do these mini character crossovers without the OTT spectacle of The Avengers series.

I can't comment much on Bucky really because I can't remember a damn thing about him. Like you say, I'm not a big Captain America fan. I don't have anything against the character, he's okay, but The First Avenger was the worst Phase 1 movie, and The Winter Soldier was the worst of the whole universe so far. (In my eyes I mean.)

In fact, I'm not a big Thor fan, either. I like the movies, but that's mostly because they're funny and I like the characters, I find the actual mythology around them pretty boring.

I guess that leaves the Iron Mans, Avengers and Guardians as the only ones I fully enjoy. (Excluding Age of Ultron.)

Everybody always forgets about The Incredible Hulk. In these discussions, which is fair the film was pretty bog standard. The character really works better as part of an ensemble.

A week after seeing the film the scene close to the end where the heroes are in the church protecting the mcguffen from the Ultron drones is still so vivid in my mind. I can't wait to see it again to take all of the details of the fight. It was such a comic-book splash page brought to life.

Spoilers
Thinking about the film I was impressed with the way that the 'New Avengers' are introduced at the end of the film. The actors aren't as high profile as the A list Avengers/actors, who will likely be off the board in Civil War. The only issue I have with the team is that nobody from Asgard filled the Thor role in the new team. Lady Sif could have easily been part of that group shot and it wouldn't hurt to have another woman in the mix.

Saw this today - it was a good edition to the franchise, I was also excited about the new avengers at the end (a little of Iron Man goes a long way). The only things that grated were the endless one-liners (when everyone is a quipster, no one is) and Ultron... he was very irritating. Great villains are never irritating.

Does not compute.

After watching the latest Avengers movie, the Captain America movies and even Agents of Shield, have been much stronger works. I hope Chris Evans continues with the role and churn out more movies if it's like Winter Soldier.

Civil War looks like it'll be the unofficial Avengers 3 what with Cap, Iron Man, War Machine, Scarlett Witch, Black Widow, Falcon, Black Panther, Hawkeye and Spider-Man.

I don't get why Falcon wasn't introduced as a proper Avenger in Age of Ultron. I spent the whole movie waiting for him to appear given how prominent he was in The Winter Soldier, you'd think he'd at least have been flying around during Cobie Smulders side-plot.

Doing what they did with Quicksilver made no sense either.

I'm curious if Disney/Marvel had a one film deal with Quicksilver because he first appeared in Xmen and the upcoming sequel?

SPOILER:

If I remember correctly the MCU had planned on using Quicksilver first, so probably decided to kill him off to save any future hassle.
