All the High School Musical crossoverness is making my life.
Trust me, more will be coming.
Ironically, ‘I Don’t Dance’ is another song my sister and I duet. She’s always Ryan & I’m Chad. Iconic.
This isn't irony, just a coincidence.
The most basic definition of irony is whe the opposite of what you expect to happen happens. If anyone else makes this mistake I will be quoting this post.

I'm definitely pissed about "I Learned from You" not even making it inside the top 80!!! WTF! I mean I know it's no masterpiece, but it's definitelly better than a lot of Hannah songs left, and some of Miley's too if I have to be completely honest. Would've rated it higher if I knew this would happen.

And yes, I Don't Dance does happen to be a masterpiece, definitely in my top ten HSM songs. An HSM rate would be even better than a Cheetah Girls rate (so many bops in the first two movies).

Well it technically did make top 80, but just barely. I love your passion though!

Dddd I was lowkey considering doing that as well.
I really hope Clear is coming to the end of its time in this rate soon.
Me too.

OKAY. It's late and I'm tired so nothing happening today. That said, I'm doing a forum wide catch-up, because I really haven't been present the past few days. Not sure why, but I think it's a combination of the holiday, and being extremely focused on reading random articles on Screenrant about horror movies, which I've been in the mood to watch lately. But the catch-up is helping me get into the groove of things, and I'm ready to do more eliminations tomorrow, hopefully at least 2. I'm really excited to get to the meatier eliminations, so I wanna attempt to do more like I was planning on at the start of this.

Speaking of, I've been watching too many horror movies, cause my foot kicked the bathroom door close, and the slight slam made me jump, despite knowing I caused it.

This will be a short one. You & Me Together was written and produced by Jamie Houston for Hannah Montana 2. He of course, also wrote and produced Pumpin' Up The Party for the first soundtrack. The song is a cute, but completely generic pop rock song about friendship that's layered in fun synths that don't add much to the song, but detract from it. It's cute and catchy and perfectly fine. That's pretty much it. Except for the atrocious vocal production on the chorus. What were they thinking? I don't have a lot of feelings about this either way, as it wasn't a song I cared much about as kid, and it's not amazing enough to make me love it now. Still well-written and produced for the most part, and Miley sounds great on the verses, and her adlibs in the final chorus are great. The song was first featured in the season 2 episode "I Am Hannah, Hear Me Croak" which also features the debut of a more important and better song, so I'll hold off on an in-depth plot of the episode, but will say it revolves around Miley losing her voice, and this song is sung in the end credits part of the episode. Critics apparently had absolutely nothing to say about this, as every review I checked didn't mention the song.

The song doesn't seem to inspire conversation in general, as only three of you commented on it. @DJHazey (4.5) kinda summarized what I said: I'm not going to completely disregard this because I like the overall sound. However, if you don't think I'm marking it down for the atrocious vocal-processing throughout the chorus, you'd be sadly mistaken. Even I have a limit. You can be so on point sometimes. The chorus vocals also get a mention from @savilizabeths (6), who also was "eh" about it as a kid: I mean…it’s fine. This one never left much of an impression on my preteen heart so I feel pretty ambivalent to it now. It’s not bad. The background singers on the chorus really overpower Miley and it sounds really fucking weird though. Oh well. It’s nice enough. Yeah, I honestly wanna slap this Jamie guy. Finally, I think @M24 (6) had to stifle a yawn: It kind of bores me. It's not bad, but still... Totally understand and agree. I recommend not listening to this on repeat.

Well, here's the song again:

And another BOP written by Jamie Houston:

(Why couldn't he provide material like this for Hannah?)

Okay, 100% serious question: since there was talk about rates for them throughout this, how would anyone feel about a High School Musical vs. The Cheetah Girls vs. Camp Rock rate? I would be happy to host it, even if I only got like 5 voters. It'd take a lot of planning and it'd be a while before I got to it, but it could be fun. And if anyone wanted to co-host (*cough* @savilizabeths *cough*) that'd be great too.

Not sure about this idea. I know several songs of this. But if I do not know them I am pretty sure I will trash them as these songs are bound to thrive on nostalgia.

I’d probably take part in that rate. I don’t listen to any of those albums with any kind of regularity anymore, but certainly had a soft spot for them back in the day... so I’d take the nostalgia trip. I have watched (and enjoyed) a few episodes of the new High School Musical show on Disney+... so it’s been on my brain some.

Oh, someone who's written the iconic Amigas Cheetahs is a good person.
I agree. I just wish Hannah had gotten something from him on that level.

I'd be insulted if you didn't. And it's good? I'm honestly terrified to go near it.

I thought about doing that rate once actually so yeah, I’d co-host for sure!
I had a feeling you would! It'll be great.

What isn't great is this elimination. Y'all are so wrong for this one.

But of course, it's an optional ballad, so it was never going to do well.

Every Part Of Me was written and produced by Adam Watts and Andy Dodd for Hannah Montana 3. The two of them have worked with multiple artists, particularly with Disney, and will pop up later. The song is a guitar led ballad that's about trying to balance different aspects of who you are. Its probably technically extremely basic in its lyrics and melody, but something that hits me hard, cause the lyrics make me think about my mental health. I know that might not make much sense, and I'm struggling with how to explain it, but I guess it has to do with the fact that I struggle with balancing parts of that still. I mean, I used to be a very depressed kid, who struggled with living and going to school every day, and even though I'm better now, I still have those days where i struggle. Music is always what helps me on these days, but I still have them, and I know I'll always have them, but it's sometimes hard for me to balance those with my relatively happy life. And at the same time, I wonder if those days mean that this happiness is just a fluke and I'll eventually revert back to my "old self". I try to avoid thinking like this, and focus on how much better it's been. As I said, the past two years have been so helpful in healing, especially since I started college and got away from the toxic drama of high school. I never thought I'd get to where I am today - mostly happy, enjoying college, searching out jobs and working - and when it comes to this song, that's what the bridge is about for me. Add Miley's gorgeous vocal performance and the sad, but uplifting production, and this was always going to be a 10 for me, and isn't one based on nostalgia, as I wasn't overly familiar with it as a kid.
Anyway, the song is first and only featured in the season 3 episode "Miley Says Goodbye? Part 1" and...
it centers around Miley dreaming she's back in Tennessee with her horse Blue Jeans, and he talks to her. Miley wants to bring Blue Jeans to Malibu, so they do, but he runs away. He eventually comes back, but since it seems like Blue Jeans can't handle being in Malibu, Miley considers moving back to Tennessee.
So yeah. Pretty intense. Critics once again had nothing to say about this, which is disappointing but not surprising. Kinda like its placement here.

You guys didn't have much to say either. @DJHazey (5) isn't here for the ballads on the album: All of the slower songs on this album are a buzzkill. Yeah, well you're a buzzkill. And a pain in my ass. @iheartpoptarts (6) asks a question: Do people go to Hannah Montana albums for the ballads? I wonder. When they're as beautiful as this, hell yeah. I mean, Miley's vocals alone lift the song up. @M24 (8) likes the songs theme: Nice little anthem about the search for identity. I like it, this album has been more introspective than the previous seasons' albums. Not sure why critics said Hannah had no maturity or progression. Cause they're assholes who care more about "real" music. It's bullshit. Finally, our resident ballad queen @savilizabeths (9) gives a shout out to one of the best instruments ever: Yet again I’m over here stanning the ballads. This one isn’t the biggest stand out from the Hannah ballad collections but it’s super pretty. I’m a sucker for an acoustic guitar moment so what can you do? Same girl. Same.

She blessed us with a performance of this:

And here's a couple Adam Watts/Andy Dodd co-writes I love:

And I'd probably be here for this but might prefer it split into smaller rates if it adds up to a lot of songs at once in the end.
