I Wanna Know You was written and produced by Jeannie Lurie, Aristeidis Archontis and Chen Neeman for the third season’s soundtrack, Hannah Montana 3. It’s a cute little bubble-gummy track complete with “woah oh’s” and horns about how Miley/Hannah wants to get to know a guy. I mentioned there was something surprising about this to me, and there’s actually a couple. The first one is – and I’m sure one of you will correct me if I’m wrong – I’m pretty sure this is the first song that’s left that was top 20 at one point. The other surprising part is how well this did. I was expecting y’all to hate this for some reason. I’m glad I was wrong though, cause it really is an adorable, hopeful, sincere song with great production that just moves along smoothly. And the horns are such a highlight, I must say. I’m really happy this did so well, good on y’all. Now, there’s two versions of the song: a solo version, which is the one I meant for y’all to rate and put in the Spotify playlist, and a version featuring David Archuleta. The duet mainly happened (I think) because of the episode this is featured in, “Promma Mia”.
Lilly and Oliver are walking together in the school and teasing people as they pass that they’re both taken for the Prom (by each other in case you didn’t know) and Lilly mentions how great it is that she doesn’t have to hope and pray that the one guy she wants to go with will ask her. She’s glad she doesn’t have to be so desperate, so needy, so….Miley, who’s sitting at a table repeating “Ask me” towards Gabe “Hottie” LaMottie with the swimmer’s body (that’s how they refer to him in the show). Lilly mentions what she’s doing is pretty pointless and Miley agrees saying if it’s meant to be, it’ll happen, then continues to pine. Lilly and Oliver start doing the “You’re cute” “You’re cuter” thing (BLECH) and Miley pushes their faces away from each other. Theme song plays, then it cuts to Miley standing next to a big prom poster as she waits for Gabe. They talk a little and Miley makes prom hints that Gabe doesn’t get (because men) and he heads to class. Lilly and Oliver do the thing again, and Gabe starts walking towards them, and instead of perfume Miley pushes a safety siren. It cuts to Miley talking to Gabe at a vending machine where she drops more hints, and gets a soda, that when she opens it, it ends up spraying all over her. She finally blurts out that she wants to go to prom with him, and he says he’d love to, but he already has a date. Miley immediately starts insulting his date, implying she has hairy back (GIIIRRRRLL) and then she leaves and it cuts to Miley sitting with Lilly, and Lilly trying to be comforting and failing. It then shows Aaron (the class nerd) asking a girl to prom awkwardly with a rose, and she says that’s sweet but she’s waiting for someone better to ask her. (ouch. At least she’s honest.) Miley notices and feels bad for him, so goes over to cheer him up, saying any girl would be lucky to go with him. (Awwwwwww). This of course leads to him asking her, and she agrees. He says his best friend won’t believe it, and calls his mom (oof.) Miley says she feels good that she’s doing a nice thing, and as Gabe and his date walk by she trips her, and says she feels even better ddddd. Robby tells Miley how proud of her he is for doing something nice for Aaron, and Miley says she’s happy to do it, cause it feels good to do the right thing for someone. David calls Hannah and asks if she wants to record something together, and she says sure, anytime is great except for and he replies with tonight, she says yes, he asks if she’ll do it, she yeah, he says great, she asks when, he says tonight, she asks tonight and he confirms tonight. David says he knows it’s last minute, and if she can’t he understands and Miley tells him she can cancel her plans to do the duet. Robby gives her the three-Mileys, disappointed in her. Miley tries to convince her dad (and herself) that she’s doing the right thing. She goes to Aaron’s house to tell him she can’t go, and almost bails before he answers the door. His grandma shows up and yells to his grandpa that he didn’t make her up, and he owes her five bucks. She reveals that the two of them flew in when they heard the news about the big night, and had to dip into their “meat money”, saying it was worth it to see him smile. She rambles, and in the middle of the ramble says she can’t go, and leaves him sad on his porch before he can say anything. It shows Hannah and David recording the song, and Miley starts thinking about Aaron, showing flashbacks through the episode while she twirls the rose he gave her. She explains to David she needs to leave, they hug and she goes to her house to change into her prom dress, then goes to Aaron’s and gives him the rose he gave her. It cuts to the parents taking pictures, and then shows pictures of them and Lilly and Oliver at the prom.
. It’s a cute episode, and I always related to Aaron when I was a kid due to my nerd status and lack of friends. I ended up going to my own prom dateless, cause my boyfriend was too far away to make it. It really wasn’t the super important night those things are always made out to be. I ended up having a lot more fun at the gay prom our pride club threw later that year. Anyways, enough about proms. EW called the song a “mite too earnest” and that’s all I got for critics.

So it’s your turn! Mostly positivity here, but @M24 (7) got a little confused: A bit boring, and I couldn't even tell David Archuleta is there (is he a backing vocalist?) You probably listened to the solo version, if you listened to the Spotify playlist, cause I think the song credits him even though his vocals aren’t on it for some reason. Anyway, @AbCF15 (7) gives a bit of a kii: I totally don’t remember this but it was a lovely discovery. This is low-key a mood, but glad you liked it dddd. @iheartpoptarts (7) needs help: Cute. And if anyone can figure out what song this sounds like, please tell me. I have no idea. Cute seemed to be the magic word though. @savilizabeths (9) is apparently here for David: This is a really cute collaboration. It’s kinda charming, isn’t it? There’s something so pure to this. It just makes me smile. It’s damn cute! Yeah it is! Finally @DJHazey (9) surprises me by loving this: Well now, this opening sounds promising and very bubblegummy. I was a bit worried seeing the featuring artist on Spotify but I'm not hearing him which is a positive. Everything I'm hearing is a potential teen pop classic, so add it to my discoveries. I’m glad I put the solo version in the playlist dddd. Glad you enjoyed it.

Here's the solo version again:

The one featuring David if you're curious:

And since I made a quick reference to it:

If it's from Can't Be Tamed, then yes.

Barefoot Cinderella was written by Jamie Houston and James Dean Hicks, and was used as the closing track for the standard edition of Hannah Montana Forever, and was featured in the final season. Jamie has popped up a few times on here, as the writer for You & Me Together, Pumpin’ Up The Party and Need A Little Love. James Dean Hicks doesn’t seem to have done much of anything worth noting, besides this song. Barefoot Cinderella is a cute pop-rock ditty full of synths about how “Hannah” wishes her guy would ask her to dance, and be with her, and tell her she’s perfect the way she is, etc. It’s such a fun, catchy song with great production – I especially love the guitar – and it’s always been one of my faves from the final soundtrack, and clearly y’all agree. I think this could’ve snuck into the top 50 but I’m not mad at it’s placement. I will say it’s the first song to cross the 7 average, so that’s cool. Show-wise, the song was first featured in the episode “Hannah’s Got Get This”, then “I’ll Always Remember You” and finally in “Wherever I Go”…all of which I’ve already talked about, so I guess we can just move on. AllMusic just called the song an “easy-going pop track” that sounds like Party In The USA, which I don’t hear but whatever.

I guess it’s a thing though, cause @phily693 (6) said: A much less talented Party In The USA. I really, truly don’t hear this. Is it cause they’re both lead by guitars and synths? @DJHazey (6.5) has issues: Oh that opening sound-effect being so late-90s, wow. It's...cute. I mean it pops off a little bit for sure, but I'm lacking the desire to bop to a song about a 'barefoot Cinderella' -- such a weird concept to me, I don't know. I don’t know, it’s clearly a play on the whole thing where Cinderella had slippers, which were part of her fancy costume, and she’s saying her guy is saying that she doesn’t need to bother with a fancy costume. Which low-key can have its own issues, but I believe there were only good intentions with this. Anyways! @Entropy (8) had a very simple point: Catchy as hell Yes it is, it gets stuck in my head constantly. @M24 (8) gives what seems like the vocal (written?) equivalent of a shoulder shrug: It's good but I expected more of it when it started. Still among the best of the albums. @iheartpoptarts (8) makes an interesting sort-of point: Disney referencing Disney. I mean, I know they probably didn’t invent Cinderella but still. A) No they didn’t, I believe the earliest version of the story was written by the Brothers Grimm and B) Low-key I think it was purposeful. Finally, @savilizabeths (8) makes what I think is an unfair point: Oh, this is quite cute! One of my favourite later Hannah tracks. Nowhere near the highs of the early stuff though. I’d argue it hits those highs.

Bop!

Spotlight was written by Scott Cutler and Anne Preven for Hannah Montana: The Movie, and it's soundtrack. You might remember they wrote These Four Walls. It's another one of those "shallow" Hannah spngs on the soundtrack, bout how much Hannah loves the spotlight always shining on her, but with a little more depth, as it also seems to be about her love for performing, which should be a theme in more songs to be honest. It's a total bop, and was another unexpected 10 for me, as I had never really paid that much attention to it. I love the guitars and the drums, it gives it a bit more of a punkier vibe, but still has a glossy pop feel. That chorus is low-key everything. If you don't love that chorus, I can't help you. This song is another one that was relegated to end credits status, which is a damn shame to be honest. On the brightside, Miley must have liked the song, as she included it in the set for her Wonder World Tour, and performed it at the O2 when they filmed the concert. PopJustice! All three reviews linked on the albums page on Wikipedia mention the song, with About.com comparing it to Gwen Stefani, AllMusic calling it a "disorienting" return to Hannah's world, and EW calling it "slick" and "guitar-heavy."

Our commentators seemed to like it quite a bit too.Let's start with @M24 (7.3) who disagrees with my chorus comment: That chorus is a bit too loud to work. Too bad because the verses are awesome. It works because it's loud. @Entropy (8) is a fan: This song makes me want to get groovy. So do it. Get groovy. @savilizabeths (8) maybe needs to work on her memory issues: This one definitely bops the most out of the Hannah songs on this album. It’s definitely a fun one, but ultimately not too memorable for me. How is that even possible? @DJHazey (9) makes a comparison to another Disney girl, and also hears the punkiness: Instantly captivating! Reaching for the heights known as Selena's "Spotlight" and not exactly failing that bad. The classic pop-punk guitars during the chorus drive it and drive me wild. I was always kinda "eh" about that one, but glad you hear the punk feel too! Finally, @iheartpoptarts (9) also makes a comparison that seems to imply she hears it too: Giving me Bubblegum No Doubt in parts. This is a good idea. I wonder if @Maki agrees with that.

Like I said, get groovy people:

Dddd I mean, it's good, I like it, but it's a solid 8 or 8.5, especially compared to the highs on that album

Knowing how those kind of scored translated to "Clear" in this rate, this isn't the best defense ddd.

Take it down, shake it out
On the floor, you'll get over it
Let it drop, make it stop, oh

When you feel like nothing
Everybody's something
You and your friend
Everybody jumping
Look at us now
Everybody shout out
Oh, in the spotlight
No matter what you're outside
Get it what you're inside
Open your eyes
You deserve the spotlight
Don't be from them
Everybody's something
