Welcome to my first ever elimination post, not only in this rate but ever. I suppose this is good practice considering my (currently accepting votes) Ariana Grande rate. ANYWAY. Supergirl was written by the frequently mentioned Kara DioGuardi in collaboration with Daniel James who, despite not writing any more Hannah/Miley tracks, is responsible for a lot of songs I really love (Vanessa Hudgens' 'Drive' and Jordan Pruitt's 'One Love' for example). The track was produced by Daniel and his producing partner, who together are known as Dreamlab. It was written for Hannah Montana 3 and first appears in the season 3 premiere, which I'll get back to in a moment. The song has an electro-dance/rock vibe and reflects on the life of fame that Hannah has chosen for herself and the negative side of that life. Being a 'supergirl' isn't always as glamorous as it might seem to all of us on the outside. The season premiere is titled "He Ain't a Hottie, He's My Brother" and it's honestly a favourite of mine. Especially the part in which this song is included where Robbie tests the song out on a very creeped out and uninterested mailman who simply responds with "you're super super weird" before leaving.
The rest is fairly unrelated, but definitely entertaining. Miley is woken by Lilly from a dream in which Lilly was kissing Jackson. She shares the nightmare to her best friend, shuddering at the thought and is horrifying to hear Lilly's confession that she actually has had a secret crush on Jackson this whole time. At Lilly's request, Miley asks Jackson how he feels about her. At first he's freaked out, but then he warms to the idea and realises he likes her back. Not wanting her brother and best friend to get together, Miley lies to Lilly and tells her that Jackson doesn't like her back. She then tells Jackson that it was a misunderstanding and Lilly doesn't like him at all. The two are completely heartbroken. Soon after, Hannah is invited to bring her group of BFFs onto 'The Mack and Mickey Show' to talk about their friendship and how it keeps Hannah grounded. Lilly (as Lola) and Jackson bicker on the show, forcing Miley (as Hannah) and Oliver (as Mike) to try and mediate and distract from the tension. Eventually, Miley is guilted into telling the two about their feelings for one another on live TV. Once the show ends, Lilly and Jackson are back at home, leaning in to kiss one another. It's at this point that Miley wakes up again and it's revealed that this was all a dream and Lilly remains disgusted by Jackson and can't imagine ever liking him that way.

As you can see above, I gave this a pretty low score. It's never been a track that I enjoyed much. While I appreciated the lyrical sentiment, I always felt that the actual lyrics themselves were a little juvenile and basic, particularly in the chorus. It didn't help that I'm not always a fan of this kind of electronic type of track with stylistic use of autotune. Admittedly, I am enjoying it more listening to it for this post. Maybe I underscored it a tad. It's got a good melody line and it's a ton of fun. The bridge is definitely my favourite part with the change in instrumentation becoming a little more dramatic with some added string flourishes. The classic trope of the music dropping out when she says 'stop' in the second verse is also cute. I definitely don't see myself returning to it though because it just doesn't click with me. Critics seemed to have a similarly mixed response. About.com called the song "cookie-cutter" but admired the writers for "knowing their target audience and delivering the goods." Entertainment Weekly were generous and compared the sound to Kelly Clarkson. I suppose? Kinda? Not really.. Allmusic called it familiar for Hannah, saying that it sounds a lot like what's come before it.

So, what did you guys think? @DJHazey (9.5) is a big fan and compares it to fan favourite (and disliked by me) album, Can't Be Tamed:
Just the title makes me think this will be a major bop because the only other song I know with that title is by an unknown teen queen from Sweden named Ellinor. That one is an all-time favorite. Let me just say this lives up to that hype big-time. Miley delivering the dance-pop goods, with this preview of Can't Be Tamed. Our host is offended that you forgot one of his faves. "Did you really forget that Queen Hilary has a song with the same name?" One of MY faves @pop3blow2 (8) agrees with me on the bridge: Nice little rock-bop. Like the bridge a lot & the production is overall very well done. And our host applauds him on his music description skills. "You really know how to sum things up nicely sometimes." My commentary (4) was far less eloquent than this post, though I was exhausted when I wrote it: I’m not here for it, which is just sorta how I feel about most of the more upbeat later Hannah songs. The chorus melody doesn’t sound that good to my ears and some of the lyrics are a bit dumb, though it’s a Disney Channel song so I guess that’s not it’s fault. I guess I can see why you’d like it, but it doesn’t work for me. I suppose I offended my best friend, because he is not happy with me. "GET TASTE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO BE MY BESTIE! The lyrics are amazing you heathen." Whoops, sorry. Love you! More praise for the bridge comes from @iheartpoptarts (6) who seems to agree with my underwhelmed feelings, and mentions the bridge yet again: A lesser version of a song we’ve heard a lot already. The middle 8 is fun, though! Our host is definitely done with our trash opinions, for he has this to say. "*Sigh* I thought you meant like this one more, but I was wrong apparently" Poor guy. We round out the commentary section with @M24 (8.25) dislikes the chorus but seems to enjoy the song overall: A little too much on the noisy side for me to enjoy that chorus. It's still good. While I agree that the chorus doesn't work, our host argues. "It works because of how noisy it is." Whatever works for you xoxo.

Now for some elaboration from our wonderful host.

"When i first heard this, I didn't pay a lot of attention and assumed it was just another song about her bragging how great it is to be famous. But the verses expose that it's about much more than that. It's actually a song about how she needs to be fake happy and totally cool, and how she needs to hide how hard her life is to avoid disappointing her fans, who see her as this role model, and some of them see her as this Supergirl. We see it a lot in so many pop stars: they struggle with mental health, life, and other bullshit that comes their way because they're both human and famous, and that has to be the hardest thing to deal with sometimes. I think there used to be this idea that they shouldn't show how hard their lives can be, because they don't want the world to think of them as weak. They also hate to disappoint us, so they'll follow through on concerts and music because they know that's what we want. But being able to recognize ourselves in, and relate to an artist's music endears them that much more to us, and helps us to remind ourselves that these people are human, and they don't have superpowers. I think over the past two years, Ari has been a great example of this, so I hope y'all will join @savilizabeths rate. All of this can be seen and heard in the lyrics to this song, making it seem like, to me, the darker side of songs like What's Not To Like and The Good Life from the movie soundtrack. And I absolutely love that about this."

Honestly, that write up might actually have made me like the song a little more. His mind! I definitely like the comparison to 'What's Not to Like' and 'The Good Life' from the movie soundtrack, calling it the darker side of those. I'd also like to thank him for shouting out both Ariana herself and my (once again, currently open for votes. Three weeks left!) rate. Join us?

WONDERFULLY done!
Although Hil's Supergirl isn't a big fave of mine dddd.
And Aly & AJ's Collapsed is low-key one of their best songs.
ALSO since I said Fake Happy in my comments, stan this:

Gawd, I am here for a @Music Is Life feat. @savilizabeths hosted rate --- #BestOfBothWorlds. ---
Your two's antics kill me, so it's like tuning into a great tv show sometimes.

Great job on your first PJ rate reveal @savilizabeths!

That said, why do I feel like @Music Is Life is low-key dragging my wordy ass with this compliment. ddd

You make me smile! Glad we amuse people. I love that dumb boy. And yeah, that's the most beautiful accidental drag of a compliment ever.

I'd also like to say that the detail @Music Is Life puts into his write ups is incredible. Reading them I sort of took them for granted but to match his style really takes a ton of time. I really respect and am so proud of him for that. A round of applause for our host!

Let's Get Crazy was written by quite a few writers, most notably Colleen Fitzpatrick who is known as Vitamin C. She has a vast discography of her own, an acting career and has written for and been involved with some other Disney Channel projects. She also wrote an underrated, guilty pleasure favourite of mine called 'We Are Gonna Happen' recorded by Emma Roberts for the soundtrack of Unfabulous. It's cute, I recommend it. The song was produced by The Collective and Smidi. It's a dance-rock track with some admittedly awesome electric guitars and some synths. It's basically a 2 minute 35 second long party that everyone is invited to. Instead of simply singing about how glamorous her life is like she does in some other tracks from the movie soundtrack, this song welcomes everyone to the celebration. "Everyone can rock out like a superstar" really emphasises that sentiment. It's also one of only two songs that appears both on the movie soundtrack and Hannah Montana 3. The other is our hosts departed 11, Let's Do This. It actually first appears in the same episode we discussed in the previous elimination ('He Ain't a Hottie, He's My Brother') which was technically its first appearance, seeing that the movie didn't come out until a little way through season 3. Its more iconic appearance, however, is in Hannah Montana: The Movie. While I'd be surprised if you hadn't seen the movie, I'll include the details under a spoiler anyway.
After the earlier mentioned shoe fight, Miley hurries to get to Lilly's birthday 16th birthday party. She realises she's being followed by the journalist villain Oswald which leaves her no choice than to attend the party dressed as Hannah. This causes an expected uproar which takes all of the attention off of the birthday girl. Things get worse when Hannah is hurried onstage to perform our eliminated song Let's Get Crazy. Lilly starts to leave, incredibly hurt by her best friends actions. Her friends all try to stop her from leaving but are unsuccessful. Everything comes to a disastrous climax with Rico's exploding birthday cake. Upset, Lilly tells Oswald that Hannah is from Crowley Corners before leaving, beginning the big plot of the film.

Like the last elimination, I'm not exactly crazy about Let's Get Crazy. Though this time I gave it a more middling score. It's definitely not a bad song. In fact, it has a lot going for it. The paparazzi camera clicks at the beginning, the acapella chorus, the irresistible groove, the electric guitars. It's a very enjoyable party song. I just know I'd have a great time with it if, for some reason, it came on in the club or at a house party. As just a song to listen to whenever, I'm not drawn to it. Never is there a time in my day where I think about listening to this. I'll bop if it's on though and can definitely find things to appreciate about it. It's as basic as most other party bops really, but it's just not as good as some other ones. Critics were generally more favourable than me. About.com praised it, comparing the style to that of Gwen Stefani while the Oakland Tribune simply called the track "fun". More negative reviews came from Allmusic who called it a "fizzy caricature of pop," and a writer from Entertainment Weekly referred to it as "freeze-dried Avril Lavigne." We'll assume that's an insult then?

Most of our commenters seemed to like it, with the exception of two of us. @iheartpoptarts (6) makes me laugh a bit (no, a lot): This isn’t necessarily as fun as it thinks it is. I don't think our host finds it as funny. "Ummmm...you're just lying. You're a lying liar who lies." Guess I'm a lying liar who lies too because I kinda agree. He doesn't like my commentary either, which is fair. Apparently I was feeling particularly unkind that day: Honestly, most of the Hannah songs from the movie just don’t do it for me. I find them oddly grating. It’s kinda catchy but it ultimately doesn’t hit for me. It’s mostly just annoying. Oops? Yeah, that was a little mean. Sorry Graig! "That's it. You absolutely have no taste!" Fair enough. Moving to our higher scoring, kinder commenters. @pop3blow2 (9.2) praises Vitamin C: Vitamin C serving bops to Miley. This totally sounds like a song that would’ve been on one of her albums. From what I've heard from her, you're totally right. Our host is amused by your recognition. "Of course you knew the connection dddd." Poor @DJHazey (9) is having a mental block: It's driving me nuts how the chorus sounds like a song I love but I'm having a mental block. The closest I can find is Ashlee's "La La" but I know that's not right. Anyway, this is total bop. Somebody help out the poor guy? Unlike me, our host has actually heard the referenced song. "I actually can hear that." Listening to La La now, I can definitely hear it. Probably because of the electric guitars. Finally, @M24 (8.5) is left a little confused: I actually thought this was a song from the show… guess I was mistaken. I like it, it's Hannah by the numbers, which means it's a bop. Our host also steals what I was going to say, but I'll let him have this one. "I mean...it was featured in the show, unlike most songs from the movie."

Since he doesn't agree with some of us negative Nancy's, what does our host really think?

"Another fun Hannah party song, but honestly this is a bit of a jam right? Like, between the paparazzi flash-bulb beats - always a fun element in a song - to the electro-pop production to the let's have fun lyrics, and an extremely prominent electric guitar, I just can't get enough of this. Lyrically, it feels like she's inviting all her fans to join in on the fun and celebrate whatever with her, which can be element I think is lacking in other party songs. But I might think that cause personally, I believe Miley has a very inviting voice in general, but whatever. This was actually a contender for my 11. I mean, the song is a Hannah classic to me, but there's also the fact that the movie scene it's in is iconic, in a really sad way. And funnily enough, it's the only other song besides Let's Do This - my actual 11 - to be featured on both the movie soundtrack and the Hannah Montana 3 soundtrack. That's difficult to get, not every song has that. I'm extremely annoyed y'all are kicking this out before top 40."

It bops, I'll give it that. But this feels like a good place for it to fall. I also fixed one of your typos. You're welcome xoxo

Enjoy (and sing along to, this video has lyrics) the party bop once again.

Relive the iconic movie scene.

Decide if you agree with the comparison to this banger of an Ashlee Simpson track.

And you better "rock out in your room" or "rock a world premiere" to this Disney Channel classic featuring former best friends Selena and Demi, penned by Vitamin C.

That's all from me for now. You'll see your host again soon because, and here's the tea, someone is losing their eleven.

And if it's me I'm gonna be hunting you all down.

Two terrible eliminations! Yeah I forgot about Hilary's Supergirl as I don't usually think of that song much at all in her discography. It's not even a song I have on playlists. Amazing to see Vitamin C of all people wrote bops for Miley!

Great job filling in @savilizabeths!
Shame on you!
(Dddd j.k. I totally don't blame you!)
Instead of expecting popstars to be fake happy, I wish we could make it easier for them to be happy. If I was in charge of things, I'd book their tour dates further apart so they had time to relax and sleep in and see the world.

It'd pay off in the long term, I bet.
This is like, one of the sweetest things I've read on this forum.

Anyways, I hope y'all are ready to lose another 11.
It’s gonna be me. I just know it!
And if it's me I'm gonna be hunting you all down.
Well....

Goodbye was written by Miley, Antonina Armato and Tim James and produced by Rock Mafia for Breakout, and was used as the official closer for the album. An acoustic guitar-led ballad, that builds wonderfully into pop-rock song, the lyrics are about looking back on a relationship and wishing the goodbye never happened. I used to not pay much attention to this song. I thought of it as just being there, and not really mattering much. But after getting older, and really experiencing love and break-ups, and returning to the song, it quickly grew on me and became a favorite of mine on the album. It's amazing. The way it describes what it's like to think about a relationship is done wonderfully. Taylor Swift who? But seriously, Miley pains a perfect picture here with her lyrics and voice - she sounds fucking amazing, let's get that straight. I can see all of this unfold in my head. And in the bridge, when she sings about Nick calling her - cause yes, surprise surprise, this is about Nick Jonas - and flips the lyrical narrative to show that he feels the same ways and has also been thinking about their past, and regrets the break-up, it's just heartbreaking, especially with the way it builds in the production with her voice. And I think that's something we could all relate too, wanting that person to just call and tell us that they know exactly how we feel because they feel the same way. This is all compounded by the strings and electric guitr that run throughout the song, creating a beautiful, sad tension with the drums providing some strength for the climax. I knew it might struggle here, being a ballad, as well as one of the last songs on an album, but I am happy to see no one outright hated it, and that it managed to survive until now. Would I have liked to see this in the top 40? Absolutely! But I'm glad it's placement wasn't worse. Miley did not perform this on the Wonder World Tour in support of the album, but it is played in the end credits for the concert movie that was released with Can't Be Tamed. Critics didn't hve much to say about the song. AllMusic called it one of the "sensitive Miley" songs on the album, Boston.com praised her vocal performance on it and the LA Times just quoted the song. I guess that's better then negative comments.

Wish I could say the same for y'all. @iheartpoptarts (5) tries to be as nice as possible, but her score betrays her: Well, she sounds nice on this one anyway. Her voice is perfection on this. @DJHazey (5.5) apparently likes to puke at sentiment: Overtly sentimental about the breakup with you know who, but far too much of a "sickly sweet" way to me and I'm quite honestly left asking for a barf bag when this starts in. She hits some nice notes in the chorus though and presents genuine emotion so I can't really discard it entirely. You can't negate anything I said above, this is extremely well-written, and personally in my opinion, not too cheesy at all. At least you recognize her vocal skills. At least some of you liked it. @M24 (8) kept it simple: Pretty breakup song. It's more then a breakup song but yes. And I think we should get @Entropy (8) some pizza: Cheesy, but cheese is a wonderful thing. It can be, yes. Finally, we have @savilizabeths (11) who correctly called this being the first Miley 11 to leave a while ago, and hopefully won't kill me. She can take her wrath out on the rest of you though: And we come to my eleven, which I fully expect to tank. Please prove me wrong! It’s such a wonderfully put together song. I love the dramatic and beautiful string filled production. I love the way the song tells a story. I love how low and simple the bridge melody is and how it becomes more complex as the song goes on. I love the way the song changes course once we hit the bridge and the story has a happy ending. The lyrics are actually gorgeous here, especially for a song she is the first credited writer on. I love story songs and this has been a favourite for me for so many years. I just absolutely live for the drama of this. Perfect! Don’t let me down guys! Okay normlly I'd just leave it at that but a) happy ending? Not really. I mean, sure, Nick calls and says he regrets it too, but they didn't get back together and b) First song she's credited on? That's factually untrue, since she co-wrote 8/10 songs on Meet Miley Cyrus and like 8/12 on Breakout, including this. Anyways, sorry about this leaving now and I love you xx.

Have a good cry y'all:

Some other songs produced by Rock Mafia about breakups:
(I've been on a bit of an Aly & AJ kick, so all of these will be them)

LOOK! Ignore my stupid commentary mistakes because I was half asleep when I wrote it!!!! SO SHHH!!!

SECOND OF ALL YOU HEATHENS! Is this any way for you to treat your part time co-host? Who gave you the right to betray me like this? @Music Is Life gave it a ten so he's the only one of you I trust.

Let me go and cry my dramatics out a bit because I actually have FEELINGS!

Wow that was a lot, you can tell I was a drama student.

Living for this rate. If I would've actually read this part of the forum beforehand and participated, East Northumberland High would've got my 11.

I played the fuck out of that song in Jr. High/High School and related to the lyrics so much.

As for Hannah... Gonna have to give it to Nobody's Perfect. Such a bop.

I know it's another "omg I'm actually not Hannah" song but I almost gave it to The Other Side of Me ddd

I will not ignore mistakes, because I like to educate people dddd. You are quite the drama queen and that is why I love you.

Okay, now I wish you had participated just because that song is a classic. Hope you'll join us for part 2!

I would love to, but I'm not sure I'd be the best judge. I feel like this was my hardcore Miley stan era, and I really fell off shortly after Bangerz released.

Nothing wrong with that! You might make some great discoveries, and you won't be the only one new to Miley's more recent material there.
You definitely are the smart one in this duo. I'll just be the dramatic yet cute one?
Lilly was always the bigger drama queen too, so this works.
But um, we're both cute.
