I'm Still Good was written and produced by Jeannie Lurie, Aris Archontis and Chen Neeman for Hannah Montana Forever and the final season. All three have popped up in this rate before (they also co-wrote/produced both Been Here All Along, which left at #84 and I Wanna Know You which left 30 places later at #54) and they will pop up again. They worked on quite a few other Disney projects as well, with other Disney artists. With this elimination, that leaves Ordinary Girl as the last song standing from Hannah Montana Forever. Will the album even make top 40? Stay tuned. Anyways, the song is a straight-forward pop-rock BOP, with a prominent electric guitar that runs through the track, as well as some fun drums, and other production flourishes ingrained into it. Lyrically speaking, I personally always viewed it as a sequel of sorts to Nobody's Perfect, for obvious reasons, with Miley singing about how no matter how often she messes up or runs into obstacles, she'll be okay. While technically the song itself is nothing special - which is why I couldn't give it a 10 - it is a whole lot of fun, extremely catchy, easy to sing along to while you're dancing, and the lyrics are uplifting. I always enjoy this when I listen to it, and bop out with her. That's pretty much I have to say about it. I may have overscored it a tad, and if it had gone sooner I wouldn't have been mad, but when no one truly hates it - and only a couple people love it - it was bound to end up around here. Show-wise, the song is first featured in the season 4 episode Been Here All Along, which I talked about in the song's elimination post. She performs it at the concert honoring military people, after the aforementioned song. During the performance, videos from different military families are played, saying hi, thank you, etc. to their family member who's serving. I couldn't find a review that mentioned the song, so I'll just leave it to you guys.

I didn't get much out of you. @M24 (7.3) just uses the "f" word: Fillerish, much? Maybe so, but still tons of fun. @savilizabeths (7) keeps it simple as well: It’s pretty catchy, especially the chorus. Yeah, it can get stuck in your head for days. @phily693 (8) recognizes some influence: Love the 80s feel of it. Always a great decade to draw from. @iheartpoptarts (10) made a years-late discovery: The best song I’ve actually never heard before. (It’s on my old iPod and all, but y’all know me…) That's so you, honestly. Finally, we'll close with @DJHazey (8) who found an enjoyable bop with a strong inspiration: Okay, this could be a bumpkin bop of sorts. It turns out to be a pretty straight-forward experience. I do love how the chorus explodes into action and there's a classic dance-pop melody running through it too, that I cannot say 'no' to. It also has a tad of Shania in it, which I know I've said earlier in my commentary. Yeah, I definitely think Shania had a big impact on Hannah's/Miley's early music, and there's nothing wrong with that.

Y'all come bop with me:

A couple theme song bops from Jeannie, Aris and Chen:

Should note that the next elimination is actually #41, as we have a tie. Speculate people!

Anyway, next we have @iheartpoptarts (8) who lets us in on her process: I’m listening to the songs out of order now and this sounds so serious and significant in the midst of all the bubblegum. Well yes, it is a serious song, but at least you liked it! I hope. You really should listen to this album in order though.

First I listen to all the songs in order!

Then I do this thing where I listen to all the songs from highest to lowest to make sure e.g. my 10s are on the same level as my other 10s, my 6s are on the same level as my other 6s, etc.

So I suppose if a song gets a high score it'll generally end up in the midst of all the bubblegum, because that's what my high scores tend to be. Hehe.

Noooooooo, save my 10s!

Also, the Shake It Up theme song is legitimately great.

Ohhhh okay. That makes sense, as far as rating processes go.

Yes, we're all well aware how much you love the bubblegum haha.

I'm sorry, it's not my fault.

Yes. Yes it is.

Well this got extremely far, and well deserved....

We Belong To The Music was written by Timothy Mosley, Jerome "J-Roc" Harmon, Jim Beanz, Walter Milsap and Candice Nelson for Timbaland's second album Shock Value II, which also included collabs with JoJo, Katy Perry and Nelly Furtado. This is apparently the last album he released, probably because he had similar issues with Blackground Records - his label - that queen JoJo had, though he managed to split from them in 2010, shortly after this album came out. Now, I can't find out how tyhis collab happened so I assume Timba just wanted to work with Miley and she said yes. But that's just my assumption. Anyways, it's a major bop, as to be expected from Timba, and Miley sounds so sassy, playful and just like she's having so much fun singing it. The production is a clap along affair with something that sounds like a tambourine, and it's very percussion based I think, but boy does it bop. Funny enough, I originally assumed this was released later in her career, like during the Bangerz era, cause of the lyrics. I mean, "I got a brand new hairdo, with my brand new attitude" and lyrics about dancing and partying? I'm sure y'all can understand my mistake. I find it hilarious that I almost didn't include it in this rate, and then it ends up almost making the top 40, and being the highest ranked extra. The last one eliminated was I Hope You Find It way back at #77 dddd. Y'all really liked this one. And I don't blame you. It's an epic bop. Let's be real, Timba always delivers. I wish I could go back and tell him to release this as a single. It would've slayed in 2010. Most critics didn't really say anything about the song and just mentioned that he collabed with Miley, but Slant Magazine did say it's an "outright disaster" and that Miley gives a "lesson on being unbearable" so fuck them.

Speaking of negatives, @savilizabeths (3) only had this to offer: Eh, no thanks. Being tasteless again, huh sis? The rest of y'all liked this. @pop3blow2 (8.5) makes a couple fair points: This is a pretty basic Timba-Bop, but it’s still fun. It is a bit too long, though… Basic sure, but you still can catch me bopping. And yeah, it could've been a minute shorter. This was a discovery for @M24 (7.5): Had never heard she collaborated with Timbaland. It's pretty good. Neither did I until recently so you're not alone. @iheartpoptarts (7) makes an interesting request: Max Martin do an album like this pretty please. So you want Max to collab with Timbaland? That'd be interesting. And weirdly enough, Miley has never done a song with Max. I'd like to see that happen. @DJHazey (7.5) brings up this sub-forum's obsession with this album: Looking at this album, I swear a song has been snatched from it for many different rates on Popjustice, so here's another. It's hilarious that this is one of least played on Spotify from the album. Poor Miley. Timbaland always has a nice production choice that is easy to lock-in to and this is no exception. It's funny that you mention that because the JoJo collab, Lose Control, will be included in my upcoming unrelesed JoJo rate, since it wasn't included in the original rate. Also, it's a shame that this song was ignored. Like @phily693 (9) - who has apparently heard the album - said: One of the only good songs from his second album and it got paid dust. So what are your feelings on the songs below?

Give in to the music:

Some other bops from the album:

(Again this is being featured in my upcoming unreleased JoJo rate, which I plan on running after the Miley rate. It's crazy how much I've been able to shoehorn her throughout this rate so far.)

Whew, y'all really weren't here for this extras this time around huh? I can't really say I blame you.I mean, I only had two 10s - one of them possibly fueled by nostalgia - as well as my lowest score in the rate at an 8. Still, it managed to hang on by the skin of it's teeth with We Belong To The Music. If I hadn't included that, the extras would;ve had a 5.35 average - not too different - but would've been out wayyyy before this. I don't really have much else to say about these songs. I think they did as well as could be expected.

Clear was written by Shelley Peiken, Xandy Barry and Miley for her debut album Meet Miley Cyrus. They are the same writers for As I Am, which left 11 places ago, at #71, and are the only songs Peiken and Barry wrote for the album. Now, y’all know how I feel about this song. The production just doesn’t work for me on this, especially in context of the album. Sure, it was experimental for her at the time, and I love when Miley gets experimental, but this song just breaks up the flow of the back half of the album. Start All Over into Good & Broken makes a lot more sense to me, so maybe it should’ve been track 9 if they had to include it. In fact, I decided to listen to the last four songs in that order just now, and it worked much better for me, and I will now be using that order from now on, but I still wouldn’t raise my score for this song. It’s my second-lowest score in the entire rate and is one of my least favorite songs by Miley period. My score would actually probably be lower if it weren’t for a couple things, the first being her voice. She sounds great here, staying mostly in her middle and lower register, and imbuing the lyrics with the emotion they need. And I need to give her respect for not trying any vocal affectations that are more typically associated with this genre, which would’ve been annoying and unnecessary. The second thing is those lyrics themselves. I love them here. A lot actually. It’s a great break-up song about finally realizing all the shit your ex put you through and how you pretended to be okay with all of it, and even tells a story across the whole song, starting at Saturday morning and ending on Saturday evening. Knowing how great the lyrics are make the production even more of a disappointment. If this was another pop-rock bop, maybe at a bit more mid-tempo, I’d probably love it to death. Maybe one day the production will grow on me but right now it’s just headache inducing. Literally. I’m never listening to this on repeat again. I should say I added the .25 cause I found myself bopping to it a little, especially in that middle-8, which is actually pretty great, so I figured I should give it points for getting me to move, if reluctantly. So I guess there’s hope for the song yet for me. Thankfully she protected 7-year old me from hearing it by not performing it on The Best Of Both Worlds Tour, so I hadn't actually heard it until like 5 or 6 years ago. Anyway, the only critic who commented on the song was AllMusic, who said “Clear pairs Cyrus’ twangy voice with a laid-back reggae rhythm, making for a slightly strange but sweet combination.” So I guess they liked it.

A few of you tasteless people did too. Let’s start with @savilizabeths (10), who drags me a bit: My close friend @Music Is Life is just plain wrong about this one. It’s one of the best songs on Meet Miley Cyrus. It’s catchy as hell, fun to sing and it bops along in such a chill way. I love the lyrics and the melody. I honestly just can’t explain why I love it so much. All I know is it’s a bop and you’re blind if you can’t see that. I will give you the lyrics and I will give you the melody, cause it’s freaking catchy and gets me singing along reluctantly, but the production is a MESS. "Bop" doesn't always mean a song is good. @M24 (9.25) that I just can’t believe: This one aged nicely. Among the more experimental tracks in this "debut". No it didn’t! How did this age well? HOW? @DJHazey (8.5) spent a lot of time dragging me for not liking this when he didn’t even give it a 10: Dddd, okay so I ended up giving it a score just a bit higher than our host, but we all know that means it's ranked a heck of alot better for me. Doomed to go out much earlier than it should, but I've always loved its laid back reggae style as a nice little switchup. True, an 8.5 for you is very different than an 8.25 for me, but still. And I think it should’ve gone waaaayyyy before this. A couple of you made me laugh. Firstly @pop3blow2 (7): You have to careful when venturing into reggae. It’s hit or miss…. this one, ummm…. Well, there a couple of fun little moments as the song goes on. This one is clearly a miss haha. You could’ve dragged it a little bit more though. And @iheartpoptarts (7), who makes a fair point: Music to sip cocktails on the beach to except not because it’s for 12-year-olds I guess. I guess they could sip virgin pina coladas or something. Finally, lowest scorer @Entropy (1) almost gave this a 0, but didn’t in the end: Absolutely one of the worst Miley songs ever. Me and my old best friend (I feel like I mention my old best friend a lot in these commentaries, but we were obsessed with Miley/Hannah in the early days so I hold a lot of memories around her music) used to talk all the time about how awful it was. If we thought something was bad, we’d used to say “ugh, that’s so Clear”. Everything about it is just dire. That’s amazing and hilarious. And you do, and I’m personally curious to know if you’re still friends with this person.

Here's the song. Feel free to torture yourselves:

And bop to these icons, and be aware that Hayley is releasing a solo project on the 22nd:

Scream, this was one of my 11 contenders when I was planning on doing the rate!

Scream, this was one of my 11 contenders when I was planning on doing the rate!
Dddd sorry for not loving it. But had you made it, you probably would've gotten it a bit higher.
Yeah the extras weren't the tea in this rate at all. How in the world with that 9+ average @Music Is Life, and you get on me about bad taste ddd.
They're cute songs, if a little inessential. And it's hard for me to be overly tough on my faves. And I haven't even begun to expose your tastelessness yet dddd.
