And isn't it funny that both songs you mentioned that episode are leaving in a tie?
Again, sorry for taking so long. On the bright side, taking forever on the day, but still getting the song out is better then waiting over a week between eliminations.

One In A Million was written by Toby Gad and Negin Djafari, and produced by Gad for inclusion on the second season soundtrack Hannah Montana 2. I'm sure you will recognize Toby's name, as he's a well-known producer, especially in pop music, and produced Just A Girl, Ordinary Girl and Rockstar. Negin is a Swedish songwriter, who's worked with quite a few artists, such as BoA, Namie Amuro, Koda Kumi and Mel B, but the most recognizable people she worked with for those of you on here will probably be Fifth Harmony, as she co-wrpte Not That Kinda Girl, the closing track on their 7/27 album. I just found out today that this is actually a cover, of a song recorded by German artist Sandy Mölling, who had a couple albums, the first of which hit #13 in Germany. Apparently, there was lyric change from the original, which has "I feel drunk but I am sober. And I'm smiling all over. Every time I see the sparkle in your eyes." It was changed to "Can't believe that I'm so lucky. I have never felt so happy. Every time I see the sparkle in your eyes." for Hannah. Who wants to petition Miley to record the song with the original lyrics? Now, the song's first apperance in the show happens in season 2 episode 3 "You Are So Sue-able To Me", and as much as I love that episode, the song has a much more entertaining role in episode 15 of the same season, "Song Sung Bad" so I'm gonna talk about that one.
The episode starts with Miley (as Hannah) in the recording booth singing One In A Million. Lilly (as Lola) and Robby are watching her, and Lilly starts talking about how lucky Miley is to have such a "pure and natural" voice. She leans forward and messes up the soundboard to make her sound fuzzy and causes feedback. Miley says she knows she had a chili dog for lunch but there's no way that's her. Lilly apologizes and messes with the sound board more but instead of fixing it she cause even more feedback and Miley falls off her seast in the booth. It cuts to Miley finishing the recording, and Lilly walks into a booth, saying it's a great song and her mom's favorite. She presents a "whacky idea": Since her mom's birthday is coming, she asks if Miley can make a special, kinda personal recording so she can give it to her as a present.Miley asks if she spent all her mom's gift money on new shoes, and Lilly says they didn't have thme in her mom's size. Miley understands, because last Christmas, she bought her dad the earrings she's wearing. Lilly asks if Miley will record the song, but Miley says no, Lilly will. Lilly laughs at first, but then realizes Miley isn't kidding. Miley explains that to really make it special for her mom, she should record it. Lilly says she doesn't have a voice like Miley's, but Miley says she'd be surprised how she'll sound in a professional studio, and assures Lilly she'll sound great. It cuts to Lilly singing and she sounds...horrible. She finishes and asks if they think her mom will like it. Miley says she's gonna be speechless and says to Robby "Right dad?" He can't even speak, and Miley says "You see?" After the theme song, it hsows Miley playing the recording for Oliver, and Lilly still sounds really bad. Miley and Oliver both look really uncomfortable. Oliver turns it off and says he feels really queasy and asks if she's really gonna give that to Lilly. Miley says "Of course not. I'm gonna give her this one." and puts another CD in, and it has Lilly singing really well. Oliver compliments the reverb and overlay work, and Miley says her dad called it "Extreme Mixover: Lilly Edition". Lilly starts to walk in and Miley says "Now she'll never know how unbelievably" but Lilly interrupts and says "Hi hi!" and Miley finishes with "completely wonderful she is." She plays the edited CD for Lilly and Lilly says she's fantastic, then says she was nervous cause most people in her family can't really sing. Throughout this, Oliver keeps kinda hinting that Lilly can't sing and Miley keeps stomping on his foot. She has Lilly wear headphones to listen to the whole song, and tells Oliver she's trying to do a nice thing to make Lilly and her mom happy. Later at school, Mr. Corelli is talking to the freshman about their fundraiser. The original plan can't happen, but he says one of their own has come up with a brilliant solution. Amber (played by Shanica Knowles, no relation to Beyonce and Solange) comes in belting "Karaoke NiiiiiIIIiiiI" and Corelli interrupts her by finishing with "night." Amber explains that for admission, they will get food, drink and the chance to be compared to, and starts belting "MeeeeeEEEEeeee" and Corelli interrupts her again." Amber makes fun of Miley, saying instead of singing, she can do her pig calls. Amber and Ashley and Miley and Lilly continue to taunt each other, including with some great celebrity name insult punds like Twitney Houstan, Smelly Clarkson and Celine Peeon, and it ends with Lilly challenging Amber to a singing competition, telling Miley when Amber hears her voice she'll freak, and Miley says she's not the only one. Later, Miley and Lilly are rehearsing at Miley's house. Miley is playing the piano while Lilly tries to match the notes, but sings off-key. Lilly says they've been doing this for an hour and she doesn't wanna damage her voice. Miley says "Trust me, that ain't gonna happen." She's making a joke about how Lilly already sounds bad, but I have to say, she's right. It's practically impossible to damage your voice by simply doing vocal warm-ups - the point is for them to help - and especially if you've only been doing them for an hour. But Lilly clearly doesn't know much about singing, so I'll let it slide. Lilly says she doesn't know why she needs to do the exercises, cause of course she's gonna blow Amber off that stage. Miley says it's not about that, it's about Lilly being the best she can be, and Lilly says she already is. Miley says she hopes not, then says she means there's always room for improvement. Robby walks in and asks Lilly how her mom liked her birthday present. Lilly sings that she loved it, and Robby asks if Lilly played it or if Lilly sang it. Miley says she played it, then tells Robby about Lilly challenging Amber. Lilly says she's gonna sing I Got Nerve. Miley asks Robby for help, and Robby tells Lilly her voice reminds him of Johnny Cash, saying he talks his songs, and Miley thinks this idea is brilliant, but Lilly asks what's going on. Miley says "Nothing" and asks Robby if he has anything else, and Robby asks if she can rap. Lilly says she's still in the room, and Miley says that maybe it's time to...and Robby says "Leave? Okay." Miley yells "I was gonna say tell her the truth. Coward!" Lilly asks "What truth?" And Miley plays the real CD of Lilly singing. Lilly asks what she did to her voice, and Miley says "On this CD, nothing. On the one you gave your mom, a lot." Lilly is upset that Miley remixed her and Miley apologizes, and says she was just trying to do something nice. Lilly says "Like what, ruin my life?" Miley says if she could loan Lilly her voice, she would. They both get the "idea" look on their face and Lilly tells Miley to hit it. Miley sings "La" in the Do scale while Lilly lip-synchs it dramatically. She says she likes to go for the big finish, and Miley says she'll take what she gives her, and Lilly says "Yes ma'am." Later, at the school, Amber is singing "Bigger Than Us" (which left at #66) and Miley and Lilly are watching. Lilly says she's really good, and Miley says she'll be better, and explains how the mics are hooked up. Lilly tells Miley to remember she likes a big finish, and Miley tells Lilly to have fun, and when she's gone she says "Singers. They're all divas." Then cringes when she sees the spider in its cage. Amber finishes singing, and Corelli asks "Who's next?" but every says no, and Ashley says "Who could possibly follow Amber?" while getting in Lilly's face. Corelli asks if Lilly will sing, and Lilly asks for the mic. CPrelli says she has guts and Lilly says "That's not all I got. I got nerve. Hit it Oliver!" While this happens, Miley's elbow hits the lid of the spider's cage and opens it. Now, if you watched that clip, you know what happens. Lilly starts lip-synching to I Got Nerve, and Amber and Ashley are amazed, but the spider crawls onto Miley, and Miley starts to freak, and sing badly, and everyone laughs at Lilly. Now, this scene clearly shows how stupid these people are. First of all, Lilly is clearly lip-synching, which is probably against the rules. Second of all, she sounds EXACTLY LIKE HANNAH DOES. Ashley even says "She sounds just like-" but is unable to finish the sentence. Now, if they're not going to jump to the conclusion that Lilly is Hannah, then they should still be able to figure out that she is lip-synching. But they don't. It's not until Miley starts to mess up that they realize anything. But then, they don't even think about the fact that it must have been Miley singing, and therefore she sounds exactly like Hannah. I know it's all in the script that they don't figure it out but COME ON. No one in the real world is this dumb. Anyway, rant over. Miley apoliguze to Lilly about messing up, and Lilly says they should just get out of there.Lilly tells them to wait, then talks to the rest of the freshman, saying at least she had the guts to get on stage, even if she did humilate herself. Lilly is upset, but Miley says Oliver is right. She then says, "Sure, Lilly doesn't have a great voice. Most of us don't. But does that mean we shouldn't sing?" AMber says "Uh, yeah. Now who wants to hear me?" But Mr. Corelli says "Amber let's not - " then sings "Inter-ruuuUUUuuuUUU-rupt" and tells Miley to "Carry on. I beg you." Miley continues, saying "Singing shouldn't be about showing people up. It should be about having a great time no matter what you sound like." She says she should;ve known that, and apologizes to Lilly for messing with the CD. She says her mom would've loved it, just cause it came from her, cause her mom is a big mush ball. Mr. Corelli asks who wants to go up and have a good time. Miley tells Lilly to go up there and show them the "real Lilly Truscott" because Miley thinks she's pretty great. Lilly says thanks, and asks for a do-over. Miley tells Lilly not to forget her big finish. Lilly goes up and starts singing "Life's What You Make It" and the crowd starts clapping along. It ends witha montage of people singing the same song. with Rico singing in Spanish. Lilly tells Amber congratulations, she's the best singer in the school (even though it's clearly Miley) and Miley says "Too bad nobody cares." Amber and Ashley leave in frustration and Lilly and Miley do their "Bam" handshake.
This has always been one of my favorite episodes, partly cause of the hilarity with Lilly's singing voice, and the focus on her in general, because she's always been one of my favorite characters. It even made me think Emily actually couldn't sing for a while, until I watched the music video of her cover of "Once Upon A Dream" that was included in the Platinum Edition of Sleeping Beauty. Obviously, Emily is a pretty great singer, she just faked being bad for this episode. In fact, I bet the "good" recording of Lilly singing One In A Million was actually her, and I'm upset we didn't get an official release of that. But another reason why I love this episode is because I found it extremely relatable. I love singing. I do all the time, whenever I can, and I always have. Now, growing up, I didn't get a lot of encouragement about it, and was regularly teased by my sister for not being very good. Tell the truth, I'm pretty sure I wasn't. But did that stop me? NO. Because I love singing. And when I hit college, I started taking vocal lessons to get better. Now, I can confidentally say I am good. Not to brag, but my vocal professor says I'm the most improved student in a short amount of time that she's ever taught. It's helped me become really proud of myself and gain confidence. The only person in the last two years who's ever said I'm bad at singing is my sister, and that's only been when I'm annoying her with it (usually singing too loudly in my room, and since she moved out, it hasn't been an issue) and besides, she's my older sister, and as close as we are and as much as we love each other, she has to tease me about something. So most of the time it doesn't bother me. Anyways, I've always loved the episode for its message about singing, and what Miley says at the end. Now, back to the song. It's a mid-tempo, piano-led pop-rock/soft-rock ballad about how this guy is her one in a million. From the second it starts, I'm hooked and my heart is in it. That piano melody is gorgeous and really sets the tone for the rest of the song. It just feels so sweet and loving, just like the lyrics. The super long, really catchy chorus is so easy to sing along to, and just get lost in all the feelings with. The entire song just makes me feel so sad that I'm single, and even though that sounds bad, I think it's great when love songs can do that, because it means you really feel the emotions of the song and the lyrics. That said, it's possible that's why I didn't give this a 10, because I literally can't think of any other reason, and could've sworn I had 10'd it before doing this write-up. Oh! I haven't talked about the melody on the verses enough. The way it kinda falls together in places, like on "I mean, I knew you were kind of into me" and "You're making me laugh about the silliest stuff, say that I'm your diamond in the rough" is just - mwah! *Chef's kiss*. I'm not sure if I said what I meant correctly, but I'm sure you guys get it. And the production! The way it builds from the soft piano and quiet guitar into the chrous with the electric bringing in some intensity but the drums pull it back. It's just a wonderfully produced, beautifully written song. I'm honestly really happy it did so well. It's in the top 3 of the optional Hannah songs, and it's the last Hannah ballad left, and the second-to-last ballad overall. I'm really happy that those who voted for it pushed it into the top 25. AND! It's our first song with two 11s! Let's celebrate that.gif. I'm just so happy y'all didn't tank it. The song was not performed on The Best Of Both Worlds Tour, because Miley peformed trash like Pumpin' Up The Party instead, but it did get a live music video, so I'll post that below. Critics didn't have much, but AllMusic did say "Moments like these balance out the watered-down and downright schmaltzy songs, such as "One in a Million," a ballad with a twinkly, earnest piano melody that sounds like equal parts of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles" and Bruce Hornsby's "That's Just the Way It Is" fused together" which isn't very nice, but I also don't hate the comparison to Vanessa's classic. Oh and Entertainment Weekly said Miley "impresses with R&B-tinged ballads (”One in a Million”). No surprise there." So at least they were positive towards it.
I'm sure y'all had great things to say as well, but we have a middling opinion first. @Maki (6) is the reason I found out it's a cover though: Nice enough cover, but nothing more than that. I find it a bit too boring, to be honest. Since you find it boring, I herby banish you to spend the rest of your days stuck on an island with Amber and Ashley. Trust me, that's a fate you do not want. Moving on, @DJHazey (7) may have been helped by the AllMusic writer: That piano sounds like it’s taken from some famous song but I can't put my finger on it. I don't mind it though, in fact it adds an element of catchiness to the experience that may not have been there otherwise. Miley delivering a cute power ballad. Miley is the Disney Queen of cute power ballads, let's be real. @Ana Raquel (8) simply wants me to post this video from the episode:
A classic. @M24 (9) appreciates the emotional growth in the song: Hey, this was great! Pretty mature too. Shared this with my boyfriend. Not that he's ever gonna listen to it. So wait, did he listen to it? @Entropy (10) took the jump I didn't: The opening to this song always gets me. The opening music, the opening line. Classic Disney tosh, but I’m a sucker for it. I'm a sucker for it too, so I don't know what was wrong with me. Last but not least, we have our absolute stans of the song. @TwistedInnocence (11) is once again simple in his choices: Has to be done for me! Love this song so so much. Taste. Perfect choice. And @savilizabeths (11) correctly guessed this would happen through our chat when I informed y'all an 11 was leaving on Sunday. Hope she's not too mad at me: I will never forgive you guys if you let this flop. It’s my perfect Hannah song. It’s emotional. It’s one of her best vocal performances from back then. The instrumentation is honestly gorgeous. It builds so beautifully. It still hits to this day. It’s got layers to it. Not only an iconic pre-chorus but an iconic chorus AND post-chorus. I love the melody on the verses. It’s so soft and pretty. I can’t even express how light and happy this one makes me feel. Do it justice please guys! You are of course, correct on all fronts. Like I said, I think it did very well, all things considered. Please don't unleash your wrath xx.
The wonderful live video. She's always been such a queen:
The original by Sandy. It's a little more pop, and less subtle. I prefer Hannah's of course:
The remix from Non-Stop Dance Party:
And the 5H banger, co-written by Negin. Honestly, one of my favorite songs by them:
Two of my favorite keyboardists, Vanessa & Bruce, getting mentioned in a Miley post (even though I think one was a drag?). Oh, well... I'll take it! This why I love forum.popjustice.com.
Okay, I'm going to do my best to not have any days without an elimination from now on, but I've had exactly 3 hours of sleep in the past 32 hours. I know that sounds really bad, but I was trying to make sure I'd go to sleep at night and wake up in the morning, instead of sleeping in the morning and waking up in the afternoon. But anyone, my point is I'm really tired, and probably won't be finishing the next elimination today. But I have started it, and it will be up tomorrow.
I really wanna try getting two out tonight so I can get us to the top 20, so let's head right in shall we?
Like I said the other day, I'm really surprised this made it so far...

The Time Of Our Lives was written by Lukasz Gottwald, Claude Kelly, Kesha Sebert and Pebe Sebert, and produced by Dr. Luke, Claude Kelly and Emily Wright. It was recorded by Miley for inclusion on her EP, and was eventually made the title track. Dr. Luke - you all know who he is. He's a pop music producer, extremely well known, worked with a long list of huge artists like Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, P!nk, Katy Perry and of course, Kesha. I'm sure you are all also aware of the sexual assault allegations made about him by the latter, and the subsequent legal battles. If you believe these allegations to be false, then I need you to get the fuck out, because I don't want to deal with your horribleness, sorry not sorry. Now, Claude Kelly is also a well-known music producer who's worked with lots of big names, especially since he works with Luke quite often, but has also written and produced separately from him. If you don't know who Kesha is, then how you are a part of this forum? How are a fan of pop music? She's been a huge pop star for over 10 years now, and has a long list of modern classics under her belt. And then Pebe Sebert is of course, Kesha's mom, who has co-written a lot of the pop star's songs with her, but wrote her first big hit in 1980, Old Flames (Can't Hold A Candle To You), which was recorded by country queen Dolly Parton. Last but not least, Emily Wright is a producer and songwriter, who's worked with a lot of artists like Britney, Katy, Hilary Duff and more, and actually got her start by working for Dr. Luke, so she seems to be a regular collaborator of his, but like Claude, she has worked with other people. Now, onto the song! I think it's safe to assume from the credits that it had originally been meant for Kesha's debut album (what would eventually become Animal), but was sold to Miley's team through the usual ways in which that works for inclusion on this EP. It's an electro-pop banger with pop-rock influences (almos an 80s feel I think) about...having the time of your life and living in the moment. Absolutely nothing new for pop music, but a well-worn lyrical theme for Kesha, especially at the time. However, Miley had never really had a song lyrically like this, so it's new territory for her, and it made for a cute, and accurate title for the EP. I personally have the time of my life when I listen to it. The production is extremely well-done - Dr. Luke is trash and always will be, but he knows how to make a good pop song. The synthy-drums and electric guitar, paired with that melody on the chorus - the kind you just wanna scream at the top of your lungs - combines to make a perfect pop anthem, one that screams BIG HIT so I don't know what they were thinking not releasing it immediately after "Party" blew up (We been knew, Hollywood Records is trash.) It's exactly the kind of song that I would give a 10 to. Everything about it screams "LOVE ME!" to my brain. Except something has always held me back. And I was never sure what until now, listening to it on repeat. It's her voice. Not exactly her voice, cause y'all know how much I fucking love it, but the vocal production. Something about it is off. She sounds almost scratchy. Not screechy. Scratchy. On the verses, as well as the chorus. Like she needed some water, or is too edited. And I don't understand why. Emily is credited as the vocal producer, so I guess it's "technically" her fault (and I feel like she's employed something like this for other artists) but this is also the same woman credited as vocal producer for Party In The USA, Hilary's Sparks and Lies, Jessie J's Domino - and yes, I know this forum hates Jessie, but that song is amazing - and many more. What the fuck happened in that studio? Miley's voice she be completely clear and hold the strong she employs on so many other songs. But it doesn't. So, it just missed out on a 10 from me. But it got one elsewhere! And an 11! Which actually doesn't surprise me, cause @spaceship is a huge Kesha stan. This is right up his alley. Glad he loves it so much, cause without his votes, it would have ended up at #27. Which still isn't too bad. I mentioned it screams perfect pop song, so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised it did so well here. It's not really the kind of song you can totally hate, but is a song you can LOVE as evidenced by the scores above. And to be honest, even on repeat, I haven't gotten tired of it. So almost top 20 makes sense in the end. As far as I can find, the song was never performed live, which is a shame, cause I bet a clear voiced vocal performance from her would prove my point, but alas, it's not meant to be. As for critics, AllMusic called this a "frothy, Hannah-esque party anthem", Digital Spy said it's "a new wavey pop tune with a terrific, anthemic chorus", The Observer (through The Guardian) said the song has "80s synths and cynicism" and Yahoo called it " fizzy" and "addictive". So they all seemed to at least like it.
The same can mostly be said about you guys - mostly. @M24 (6.9) simply had this to say about it: It's a tamer Party in the USA. I don't like it much. That's...an opinion. I wouldn't call this song tame, but to each their own. @DJHazey (7) claims it'd be a lesser Kesha song: You definitely hear Kesha's writing all over it but sadly it'd just be a run-of-the-mill album track on Warrior and with this score to match. As you can see, that still means it’s a damn good pop song just not something for repeated listening to my ears. It would've made more sense to say Animal, since that came out the next year, but I guess I see what you mean. I think it'd be a great pop song no matter what. @Maki (7.5) experienced memory loss: Can't remember how this one goes, let me re-listen to it... Oh, yeah, the chorus is great. Unfortunately, that makes the rest of the song pale in comparison, and that doesn't warrant a higher score, I'm afraid. Very fair statement. I still like them, but the verses don't make much sense if you really think about them. @savilizabeths (7) won't agree though: Harmless fun. I don’t adore it but I don’t hate it. I think I like the verses better than the chorus, which feels a little shouty both melody and vocal wise. Shouty is a good word for it too. But I don't know how that can aply to a melody ddd. I think it's just very anthemic, like something you're supposed to scream along with in an arena with 90,000 people. I hope @Entropy (8) is making the most of his time in isolation: This song inspired me to have the time of my life. Good for you! Are you having fun? @iheartpoptarts (9) has weird analysis skills: Cute bop. I actually always assumed it was a ballad. Maybe it’s the EP cover with the script font that made me think that, I don’t know. I get the thing about the cover, but...you thought a song...with the title...The Time Of Our Lives...was a ballad? I've never experienced that thought process before. You are truly one of a kind. Never change xx. Since our 11 giver didn't submit commentary, we'll close with @phily693 (10) who makes the best point you can possibly make: You can tell Kesha wrote this which is obviously a great thing. TRUTH. She has almost no bad songs. Period.

Awwwww that's so cute! Hope you're content with it's placement.
I really need to do eliminations earlier in the day, because it's midnight here, and I have to help my grandmother with laundry tomorrow. But I'll get #21 as soon as possible - I'll probably be up mad early, so I'll do it ASAP - post the top 20, and get out #19 tomorrow night.
I get the thing about the cover, but...you thought a song...with the title...The Time Of Our Lives...was a ballad? I've never experienced that thought process before. You are truly one of a kind. Never change xx.
Somehow I never read the title in the obvious partying sort of way, but in the significant moment in time sort of way, like when people graduate or win the X Factor or I don't even know what.
This makes zero sense in retrospect. I'll keep blaming it on the font.

Favorite Lyric: 'Cause I flip the script so many times I forget who's on stage, who's in the mirror.(First, I really like the way this fits together, and the fact that it's not an obvious couplet you'd think of, even for a song with a lyrical story like this. Like, I feel that it's a pretty unconventional lyric. Plus, it kind of addresses how mentally damaging it could be for someone to live two lives. It's cool in the show and I love it, trust me, but that'd be a pretty harrowing situation in real life.)

The Other Side Of Me was written by Matthew Gerrard and Robbie Nevil, and produced by Gerrard for the first season of Hannah Montana, and was included on its soundtrack. You might recognize those names as the writers of songs like Who Said (#48), What's Not To Like (#73), Ice Cream Freeze (#89) and more. The song is an electro-pop BOP about the struggle of being two different people and having to hide it. So, pretty on course for the first season soundtrack. It's first apperance was in season 1 episode 4, "I Can't Make You Love Hannah If You Don't" but since season 1 episode 24 was named after it ("The Idol Side Of Me"), I'm going to talk about that one.
It starts at singing competition, Singing With The Stars, with the host congratulating the winner, insulting the losers and announcing Hannah as the next week's celebrity guest. They dance to Pumpin' Up The Party, and it cuts to the high school. Lilly and Miley are walking into the cafeteria, talking snout how cool it is that Hannah's gonna be the guest celebrity on the show, making her about the coolest person ever. The two of them sit at a table full of people, and everyone at the table immediately gets up to leave. They smell themselves, the accuse the other for being the reason, and Oliver walks up, saying that Amber and Ashley's annual "cool list" is out again. This is why everyone ditched them, and they check the list to see where they are. Oliver tells them to go to the last page, and they find out they're tied for dead last with Dandruff Danny. Oliver tries to leave, and explains that he finally cracked the top 100, and he doesn't want to be seen with people from the last page. (I still don't get why he's so much higher then them, when it's pretty common knowledge that they're his best friends.) Amber and Ashley walk in, and bully the two of them, with Ashley even saying that it's so sad they're still eating, "as if they had a reason to live" which is a pretty damaging thing to say to a teenager - or to anyone really, so holy shit at the writers going that far. Like, they're literally saying that the popular people base how much your life is worth on how cool you are. So if you're not cool, you might as well be dead. I think that's the closest Disney has ever gotten to an actual school situation in this generation of shows. Thankfully, Miley and Lilly don't fall for it, with Miley even saying that the list is bogus and so are the people who wrote it. Queen. The true lesson of this episode is to not fall for it when popular people say you're worthless. Okay, moving on. Miley tries to get the crowd to rip up their lists, but everyone just leaves, except Dandruff Danny, who's too weak to rip it. After the theme song, Miley's talking to Lilly in the hallway, saying that there are plenty of other people who don't care about the list, and are strong and smart enough to think for themselves, and those are the people she wants for her friends. (Honestly, no wonder this show was so popular. It wasn't the music or premise. It's cause Miley is an icon for non-popular kids.) Miley goes to talk to Sarah cause she thinks she's one of these people, but Sarah comes up with excuses to not be Miley's lab partner, and Miley naturally sees through her. Sarah leaves and Miley and Lilly overhear Amber tell this random girl named Alexa (who literally never shows up again, but is played by Christian Serratos, who played Suzie Crabgrass on Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide. Raise if your hand if you remember that show. I also found out literally just now that she played Angela in the Twilight Saga and I'm a little mind blown) that she can't go to her part becasue she's audtioning for Singing WIth The Stars to hopefully sing with Hannah Montana. Miley tells Lilly she can make sure Amber doesn't get to sing with Hannah, then they hear someone singing horribly in the bathroom, think it's Amber and Miley says she can make sure she does, so she can fight fire with fire and wants her to know how painful it is to be made fun of. Later on at school, Oliver is walking into the cafeteria with a couple football players, and pretends to have a leg cramp so he can sit with Miley and Lilly without seeming uncool. He tells them he misses them, but also tells them not to look at him when they talk, and turns out, then asks about the Amber situation. Lilly tells him if he doesn't look at them, they won't tell him, even though it's really good. He glances their way and Miley yells at him, so he gives in and looks at them. Miley says not only is she gong to be on the show, but that she gets to be the one to tell her. She waits for Amber to take a big mouthful of pasta salad, then calls her, and says it's Hannah Montana, making Amber spit out her food. She then tells her she's going to get to sing with her on the show right when she takes a drink, so she spits that out as well. She congratulates her, tells her she deserves everything she's about to get, and hangs up. Amber stands and announces to the cafeteria that she's gonna be on the show with Hannah, and everyone claps. She asks if they wanna hear what she's gonna sing, and the room gets quiet. She hits the table, making Ashley say that they all do, and that leads to everyone agreeing, with Miley saying "I know I do." She starts singing The Other Side Of Me, and of course sounds amazing, and Miley, Lilly and Oliver are extremely upset and confused.Oliver asks who they heard in the bathroom, and Ashley starts singing, horribly. (Of course, if you read the last episode recap, then you know it couldn't have been Amber in the bathroom, but hey, I never said I'd do these in order.) Amber tells Ashley "No singing. Snaps and claps only."(By the way, Ashley is played by Anna Maria Perez de Tagle, who's in the Camp Rock films and actually can sing. Just saying.) Miley says to Lilly and Oliver to look for the bright side, but none of them have any. Later, Miley (as Hannah) is rehearsing on the show and going through stuff with the (I'm assuming) director. Miley starts talking to Lilly about how if Amber wins the show, then the list will be the least of their problems. Lilly notices the smoky arches, and asks what it is. Miley says it's the beginning of the end, because after they enter through the smoke, Amber will sing great, and then the two of them will be at the bottom of the cool list until they're seniors - the old kind. Lilly starts getting that plan face of hers, and asks Miley if she remembers her exploding volcano disaster at the previous year's science fair. Miley reminds Lilly people were blowing lava out of their nose for a week, and Lilly says if she could do that on accident, imagine what Lilly could do to Amber on purpose. Miley says "I'm imagining...Ooo and I'm liking." Later, when Amber is getting ready for the show, Lilly is talking to Mileyabout the plan, telling her that Miley needs to go through the red and Amber needs to go through the green. Ashley is talking to Amber and making her extremely nervous about all the people who will see this happen, in a really stupid way. She runs off, and Miley walks up to Amber, and Amber tells her that she can't do it. Miley tells her it'll be okay as long as she goes through the green arch, but Amber continues to be nervous. Amber says she can't be made fun of again, and Miley asks when that ever happened. Amber explains that when she was a kid, she was the geeky girl with glasses, the one who everyone teased. (Can I just say, as someone who wears glasses, I'm really glad it seems like we've moved past the thing where wearing them automatically made you a geek/nerd/target. Not that I'm not or wasn't those things, but I can't remember the last time I saw that in a show or movie.) Miley asks if she has any pictures, so she could feel her pain, but Amber says she burned them all, and that she's always been afraid it'll happen again. Miley asks Amber if she makes fun of people now because of what others did to her when she was a kid. Amber confirms she does, and Miley explains that she shouldn't do that, because when you fight fire with fire, all you get is burned. Amber says she knows, and that she's gonna flame out in front of these people (meaning she acknowledges she's a bad person, and that karma is about to bite her on the ass). Miley asks if she can promise Amber she'll go out looking great, if Amber can promise to be a better person. Amber says yeah, but asks if she can really make that happen, and Miley guarentees that she'll go out looking a whole lot better then her. She then tells her to go through the red arch, and walks off to the green arch. The performance starts and Amber looks and sounds great. Miley goes out looking very green and sounding rough and coughing. It quickly cuts to the school, and Oliver enters the cafeteria, and tells Miley and Lilly that he doesn't care what people say, he's stting with them, then tells a passerby he just dropped a taquito. Lilly covers Miley's sleeve, saying her green arm is showing, and Miley says she's the one who made it hard to get off. Lilly tells Miley to blame science, then Oliver asks what Miley is gonna do, since Amber won, and got a recording contract, and Lilly says it's because she had to be a good person, and she hates it when she does that. Miley tells them not to worry about it, it'll be worth it. Amnber walks in and everyone claps for her. Amber tells them she made a promise to herself and her new best-friend Hannah Montana - Lilly asks Miley if it's still worth it, and Miley says to wait for it - and Amber continues that she's gonna be a better person, so she's doing something "drastic" to the list. She then tells Dandruff Danny that he's now above Miley and Lilly, and he cheers. Lilly tells Miley she's still waiting and Miley says it wasn't what she was hoping for, but at least she's being nice to someone. Oliver asks if she's really not going to try and ger back, and Miley explains that she learned her lesson. Lilly says she wishes Miley would've told her that before, because she arranged a little surprise for Amber. An explosion comes from the hallway, and Amber screams. She runs in, covered in green gunk, asking who did it. Oliver and Lilly are laughing but Miley says it's not funny, then says she loves Amber in green and joins them.
Another favorite early episode of mine, especially since I think it has a couple of great lessons for kids/teenagers/life, especially through Miley's own actions. A true queen. Now, back to the song. It's honestly just a total BOP that makes me wanna dance and sing around my room. It's really catchy, and musically interesting, with a strong melody that will get stuck in your head by the end. One of my favorite things about it are the lines leading into the chorus, the first being "Got too much on my plate" and the second "They can make a girl insane". I love how fast they are, and how they're nearly hidden by the production. Just such a great detail. I think the song really addresses some issues that a person could have if they were living two lives. Pretending to be someone else and having to hide a HUGE piece of your life from people you care about - fans, friends, family, anyone - is a big deal and really hard to do. It's something a lot of queer people understand, and go through. It's so freeing when you're finally able to come out and tell the whole truth about yourself, but it takes a lot to get to that point, so that means going through some pain and guilt. It's especially seen in some of the show's episodes that Miley's character goes through some similar situations herself, albeit in different ways. She's truly been a queer icon all along. So yeah, I have a lot of love for this song, and a lot of reasons why, the biggest being that it was a huge part of my childhood, then developed into something more meaningful for me. I'm really happy it did so well - #21 is nothing to scoff at. And it made the top 2 of optional Hannah songs, thus leaving Life's What You Make It as the final one. I have to say, great taste there. So, all in all, a really satisfying placement for a great pop song. Nice job y'all. The song was not performed on tour, but does have a live music video, so of course I'll link it below. None of the reviews I read commented on the song, so again, it's up to you guys.
All our commenters gave scores of 7 or above, so let's start with a perfectly truthful statement from @DJHazey (8): Oh wow this chorus definitely bangs, nice one. Yes. Yes it really does. Not everyone was overly postive though. We have @Maki (7) who uses one of my favorite "w" words: Sounds wonky in places, not sure it works as a whole. In the middle-ground of this soundtrack. I agree about wonky actually, but I think it's good-wonky. And @M24 (7) mentioned a detail I never noticed until I read his comment: The chorus falls a bit flat, and I never knew why they used auto-tune when she sings "to both realities". Always bothered me a bitsy. I prefer the verses much more. It's still a good song overall. Seriously. I had no idea that auto-tune was there until I read this and listened to the song. Now it's gonna bother me too. It's so random. I know someone who will agree with you about the verses though, @phily693 (8.5): I much prefer the verses, the chorus is grating. Though props for being sonically interesting, it’s got her country/pop-rock vibe but lots of electronic and dance elements, which is pretty cool. Yeah, I really love the combination of it all too. And two of the wonderful women in the rate had similar points in their comments. @savilizabeths (9) has more love for this then a certain other song: Yet another double life song but we love it anyway. I think I prefer this over Best of Both Worlds honestly. There’s something about the melody that I absolutely adore. I just want to dance around to this one. My one gripe is the weird little auto-tune bits but that’s just a personal preference thing. There are some great little moments here too though. The ‘flip the script’ part where it’s repeated as if the script is flipping for example. Yes, that entire verse is honestly perfection, but especially that part. And finally, @iheartpoptarts (9) made me laugh so damn hard: I have to say, they’ve done a great job of making a ton of songs about pretty much the same topic. They knew what they were doing, that's for sure.
Didn't think it would take me so long (almost 2 months? Wow I hate myself a little right now) but finally we get to...

The absolute domination of Can't Be Tamed makes me really happy, the absolute massacre of some Hannah soundtracks/songs makes me really sad, but looking at this...I personally could only question the placement of about three songs and only one of those is an actual surprise. You guys have almost impeccable taste, and I must congratulate you all. Now, what are you guys surprised about? What are you happy about it? Is there anything you want gone immediately? Talk, discuss, engage!
Also her version of Kicking & Screaming kinda sucks (and it's not even that great of a song to begin with) so I truly don't understand how it's still here.
