Hannah Montana Forever: 9.56

Hannah Montana Forever was the last soundtrack issued for the show, taking songs from the final season. This is also when, I think the lines between Miley as a person and Hannah as her character really started to blur, in both the music and the themes of the show. I already explained how Can't Be Tamed was Miley's first real advancement and switch up of her sound. Well, I think the same can be said about Hannah Montana Forever. Instead of being the typical Hannah pop-rock affair, the songs here, especially the upbeat ones, take on a more electronic tone, similar to Can't Be Tamed itself, though with not as many amazing results, and on a lesser scale in general. Now, I can't help but wonder if that was a purposeful move from the song writers, producers, and show runners - maybe even Miley herself - or if it was completely subconscious. There's even a few songs that feel more like Miley herself singing, rather than her character, and I think that's cause - if you hadn't noticed - on Hannah songs, Miley tends to use a higher-pitched, girlier tone in her voice, and there are a few songs here where she doesn't do that. This is an idea I've always thought about, and I can't wait to explore it more as the rate progresses. The themes most prominent on the soundtrack are love, moving on, and growing up, which make sense as it was the final season, following Miley and Lilly's senior year of high school, and getting ready for college. Lots of stuff I wanna talk about there, but they'll have to wait for specific songs. There are a couple others though, such as an almost sequel song to Nobody's Perfect in I'm Still Good, as well as a song dedicated to people who serve in the military, particularly those overseas in Been Here All Along. There are of course, a couple of token "fun" songs (Gonna Get This, Are You Ready?), and while they're always welcome, I think they actually bring the record down, as it's clearly the point where "Hannah" was striving to move on and mature in her music and life. While nothing here is outright bad, and it still contains some Hannah highlights and classics, this is my least favorite Hannah soundtrack, and I'm not entirely sure why. There are just not as many individual songs that I love as much as the others, even if I enjoy all of them on some level. I do think there's a chance they needed to spend more time on this, and maybe should have focused more on the themes of growing up, but I'm not mad at the final product. I just think it could be more. Though, that could be said about a lot of albums, especially when it comes to Disney/Hollywood Records. However, this would be the last time Miley is affiliated with either label, and will soon break out as a serious pop star to watch out for. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
