So what will be the first track to leave?
I'd wait in line
Just to have you once
Then you'll have me once
And I'll never
Be happy again

Surprising probably no one or very few, Wait is our first track to bow out. The extras were always gonna have a rough go of it but seeing as this one didn't even see any scores above an 8, it seems that nobody felt really passionate about it either way.
While this track released in 2016 (as part of the Adult Swim Singles Series), Mitski and Ryan had been no strangers to collaboration and interaction before this point. In 2015, Ryan released a
remix of Francis Forever and the two were featured in a discussion of the year's Songs of the Summer with
Stereogum. Keeping this in mind, it makes sense that it was the first collaboration in Mitski's solo discography.
The song itself is definitely along the lines of typical Ryan Hemsworth fare, just with guest vocals obviously dddd. The icy synths, heavy reverb use, and subdued vocals are all elements I recall from my time spent with his material. As far as the composition/development of the song goes, I wasn't able to find a ton of information for this one while doing some reading around in the prep/run up to the rate. All I've got was that Ryan had been working on ideas with Keaton Henson before Mitski became involved. If any of those ideas made it into the song or how much they shifted, I'm not 100% sure. Sorry.
I'm not terribly upset with this being the first to go. It's not a TERRIBLE song and I have one or two lower scores somewhere in the list but it's not essential Mitski material regardless. I do recall enjoying some of Ryan's other work more when I listening in the past so maybe give it a go sometime.

Shifting gears a bitsy, we have one piece of commentary for this track.
@constantino who gave the track a 7 serves a questionable comparison with "Not Ryan Hemsworth sounding like Perfume Genius." It's a bit early into the rate for mess so I'm gonna let this one slide xx
...and that's about it for this one. Some of these eliminations will be more or less thorough than others as a result of what I have to work with in terms of information and content or even just how I'm feeling that day. The extras are gonna end up being on the lighter end but I'll do my best. I'll finish this post with two more tracks from Ryan in addition to the (much better) track that this one's title makes me think of.
I'll see y'all tomorrow for the next elimination.
Are you happy with this being out?
