  1. Although none of it's best songs have been downed yet, Casino is taking a beating and it deserves a bit of a breather (Unless of course bells is coming up soon.).

  2. Now it is time for me to take you...

    ...into the 7+ averages!

The Scotsman called “The Bells Of Alcazar” “high camp”!

History lesson: An alcázar is a type of Moorish castle or palace in Spain and Portugal built during Muslim rule, although some were founded by Christians and others were built on earlier Roman or Visigothic fortifications. Most of the alcázars were built between the 8th and 15th centuries. Many cities in Spain have an alcázar. The term is sometimes used as a synonym for “castillo” or castle; palaces or forts built by Christian rulers were also often called alcázars.

It seems that the alcázar from Seville was used in Game of Thrones series 5 (I never watched). Do you know what else the alcázar of Seville has? A bell tower.

@iheartpoptarts (6): Wait, did I miss the bells or did they just not put them in?

@Hudweiser (7): Basic, but love the bouncy beat.

@mrdonut (8.5): The “Oh Alcazar” refrain is glorious.

@berserkboi (6.3): A clunker compared to the rest.

@Empty Shoebox (5): Another that fades into the background and is a bit too repetitive.

@TrueBeliever (10): One of their early bests! Pulsing beat drives me along to ecstasy! Yes, it’s repetitive, but I don’t mind here. Andreas has some strong vocals here, and Tess & Annika are punctuating perfectly on the backing tracks.

@Untouchable Ace (7.9): ‘Your Woman’ tea.

@Eric (9.5): Pure camp anthem, needs a gay bar with a cheap booze and a sticky dancefloor for the full effect. The “tower of power” - scream!
  3. Only while doing this rate did I discover that was a real word.
  4. You were very right about the second part!

... and you're also right about the first part, since Casino is safe for the next 8 cuts!
  5. Do we know if the band's name was a reference to General Alcazar from Tintin (who was almost certainly named for the castles)? I assumed it was a coincidence until I read that Annikafiore thought Alexander Bard came up with her nickname because of Castafiore.
  6. The only thing I’ve found was a purported interview with the original trio where they said “that their name stands for Friendship which allows them to be at the 'Casa Del Alcazar' whenever and wherever they meet. ‘Alcazar is home, Casa del Alcazar, the things that we all love to do, and maybe... we can live in the castle one day.’”
Makes about as much sense as anything else!

B-side alert! We’ve got a B-side, everybody! “Nothing But The Video On” as well as the yet-to-be-eliminated “Glamourama” were B-sides for the “Start The Fire” single. “Nothing…” was written by members of the group Vacuum, whose biggest chart success in Sweden was “I Breathe,” which reached #2:

Don’t worry, you’re not seeing things. Yes, that was Alexander Bard and Marina Schiptjenko in the clip who would both leave the band within the next few years and go on to form other bands like Bodies Without Organs and Gravitonas, reuniting Page, etc.

It’s all a bit musically incestuous, n’est-ce pas?

(Also, I wonder if there is a market for a BWO discography rate someday… Over their albums, there are 40 unique songs, although some have ballad versions and disco versions. Were there any BWO B-sides? Never mind, I’m getting ahead of myself.)

@berserkboi (6.3): A bit like an unfinished demo in the instrumental, they came a long way since.

@TrueBeliever (5.5): Sound more like a chant than anything else. Not a fan of this one.

@Untouchable Ace (6.6): Concept above the song itself. The chorus is good but the rest is not.

@Empty Shoebox (7): Has a lovely rhythm, but I think the vocals let it down a little, as well as the bridge.

    @mrdonut (5.5): I mean it’s not great.
  9. Yes! I am READY to be torn between Lay Your Love on Me and Gomenasai for my 11.
  10. Nothing But The Video On was another new song to me but I liked it so much I ended up downloading the Start The Fire EP, I thought it would do a bit better than this. We love an unpredictable rate!

(a big yes please from me to a BWO discography rate, that would be amazing!)
  11. Pretty much!

  13. Yes, let's just pour gasoline on the entire amazing trinity of Seasons-Clone-Bells and light it up. What a disaster.

“Wonderland” was composed by Thomas “Orup” Eriksson, who would go on to write the winning entry for Melodifestivalen 2004, Lena Phillipsson’s “Det gör ont”:

(which was produced by Anders Hansson, who also wrote “Alcastar” for Melodfestivalen 2005, with the line “This is wonderland, try to understand,” and round and round we go...)

@iheartpoptarts (6): Somebody tell me what this reminds me of pretty please?

@VivaForever (5): Not a tribute to All by Myself dddddd. It’s not horrible, actually, but God, does it drag.

@Empty Shoebox (3): There’s too many times here where it sounds like Magnus is crying.

@Eric (10): Everything about this wins...the accordion (?) at the start, the dreamy and melancholic vocals, the story-esque lyrics like a musical...and man, those last few seconds

@berserkboi (10): That Edith Piaf Intro!! Gorgeous throughout too!

@Ana Raquel (10): This is the type of song that I don’t listen to very often, but when I do, I listen to it for, at least, five days straight.

@TrueBeliever (9): Takes me back to my Italian vacation last summer. Such a mood! Magnus is such a star! Don’t care much for the spoken bits at the end though.
  18. Wait! How did this travesty happen? Humph!
