Yes, not a very original idea, but here it is, the PJXtra Vault thread....

Dobrodošli!!!

PJXtra is an online song contest in the vein of PJSC, PJRetro and PJ00s, but with a twist: you can submit a 21st century non-English song, which:
  • is sung in any language other than that of the winning song from the most recent PJXtra contest and features less than 20% approximately of English lyrics.
  • hasn’t charted in the top 3 anywhere in the world and isn’t a Eurovision Song Contest entry (non-qualifying national final songs are eligible).
  • is performed by an artist with 30 pages or less of dedicated discussion on the Popjustice forum & didn’t participate in the most recent PJXtra competition.
  • hasn’t previously been entered into either PJSC, PJ00s or PJXtra.
  • if it is a cover version, is subject to certain criteria including if the song being covered is already famous/successful.
A winning artist in PJXtra is banned for the next 5 rounds.
As stated above, a winning language is banned for the next round only.

Above rules have been tweaked a little over the past few rounds, and some rounds have a special theme, but above are the 'basic' rules for each round.

Each round, once the list of successful songs is published, you listen to them all, choose your favourite ten and allocate points as follows:

12 points : your favourite song of the contest
10 points : 2nd place
8 points: 3rd place
7 points
6 points
5 points
4 points
3 points
2 points
1 point

Please keep your ballots secret, sharing them only with the host(/s) who will reveal the results once voting closes. You are unable to vote for your entry and any non-voters have their final total halved!

The aim is to have PJXtra run 6 times a year, with rounds ending in the first week of:
February
April
June
August
October
December: Annual Easy Round: the top 3 rule does not apply, except for the official UK & US charts

We’re talking official singles charts - eg. the equivalent of the Billboard Hot 100 which usually combines physical sales/streams/downloads. And it doesn’t apply to iTunes charts either (are they even a thing anymore?)
A lot of countries don’t even have proper official charts, though - many of them are just radio charts or download-only charts. It’s only really the bigger markets that have specifically compiled charts that aim to accurately reflect sales and streams across the country.

In that case it’ll be at the discretion of the veto panel I guess although the most prescient advice might be to avoid submitting what would most likely be classed as ‘big hits’ or super successful songs (maybe Youtube views etc might come in to play at that point?)

This feels like it's... doing a lot. Who cares about a song that was a big hit in, say, India or China and would have racked up tons of views from those countries, when nobody based in those countries actually votes in PJXtra?

Maybe so but it’s just one way of attempting to create a criteria that can be applied to any song from around the world. It’s not perfect by any means but it’s what the panel have agreed on to test out. It’ll no doubt be tweaked along the way.

Is there a website out there that lets you search a song to see whether it's charted anywhere in the world? (Like, besides Wikipedia?)
I usually visit dutchcharts.nl or ultratop.be - not sure of the architecture behind the scenes as to why all the sites work together, but it will usually include any chart positions for Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Australia and New Zealand. For example, the page for “Shallow.” Although it looks like @londonrain’s suggestion is a better one.
