2 questions:

The songs that have dropped out of the list... can they return in the list?

I am allowed to post my list directly in this thread. Just checking to be sure.

The way I understand this "Retro" chart business is:

Your chart can contain any song released in the previous six month release date window ( for example your Retro chart for w/e 02/02/1980 can contain any single released from Aug 1979 to Feb 1980 (as long as it was available as a general "single" release in any country in the world) - by including a single from the last six months, it could help a single return back to the Retro chart and who knows other PJ'ers may investigate and find they like it too! I'm discovering some interesting singles on this thread!

You can post your Retro chart directing to the thread or in a personal conversation to @phoenix123 - I did once when I was on holiday for a particular week, to ensure my favourite singles did not slip down/out of the "Retro" chart!

Hopefully the above makes sense and isn't confusing!

The Ska movement just keeps gaining pace - Madness' "My girl" enjoy their second week at number one, but The Specials are right on their tail at number two. "Too much too young" has already jumped to pole position on the UK mainstream chart!
Meanwhile The Beat are on the way down with "Tears of a clown" at number 12 while The Selecter take full advantage of the expanded top 30 with a new entry at number 25 with "Three minute hero"

The highest climber this week is Joe Jackson and the excellent "It's different for girls" up from 15 to number 5. Michael Jackson continues his climb into the top three with "Rock with you" - it gets it's official release in the UK this week! It's great to see Prince having his first top ten hit as "I wanna be your lover" climbs to number 10 - he's already peaked at number 41 in the mainstream UK chart though, hopefully his next UK release "Sexy dancer" schedule for Apr 1980 will make the top 40!
Simple Minds are also heading for the top ten as "Changeling climbs strongly from 19 to 11
The highest new entry of the week is at number 19: The Boomtown Rats and "Someone's looking at you" - the third single release from their current album "The fine art of surfacing"

An interesting new entry at number 20 - which is the "Hot shot" feature for this week - stay tuned!

New Entry at number 20: Azymuth and "Jazz carnival"

This Brazilian trio have brought the Rio Carnival with them to the UK as their single "Jazz Carnival" warms up our chart during a very cold late Jan/early Feb winter evening! Enjoy!

I came across this track last summer while searching for a Gilberto Gil track.

25 NEW THREE MINUTE HERO The Selecter
Ooh, is it that time of the month already? That's my favourite Selecter single, so I've been waiting for February to come!

Not that I haven't kept finding even more of those nagging oversights I've been trying to hunt down:

- the undertones - you've got my number (oct 9)
- the monochrome set - the monochrome set (early oct)
- bauhaus - dark entries (jan '80)

Anybody know what time of Feb did Killing Joke release "Wardance"? It's going to loom very large in my chart for the whole six months after I introduce it...

I'm having to hold myself back from extending every week! Think I'll stop at a top 50 until I can get a comfortable top 75 like the UK chart!

The way I understand this "Retro" chart business is:

Your chart can contain any song released in the previous six month release date window ( for example your Retro chart for w/e 02/02/1980 can contain any single released from Aug 1979 to Feb 1980 (as long as it was available as a general "single" release in any country in the world) - by including a single from the last six months, it could help a single return back to the Retro chart and who knows other PJ'ers may investigate and find they like it to!

To clarify, you don't have to stick to singles but I would recommend keeping album-track landfill to a minimum. Maybe well known album tracks (that people always assumed were singles) or your absolute favourite album tracks but the only real rule is the 6 month cut off.

Yes a song can return to the chart and you do not need to remove a song from your chart for being more than 6 months old as long as it first charted within the 6 month window. Does that make sense?

For example on this week's chart:

The Three Degrees "Golden Lady" (UK entry 23/06/79) - this can not enter my chart as it is over 6 months old and not previously charted.

The Cure "Boys Don't Cry" (23/06/79) - despite being over 6 months old now, it was previously on my chart within the window (just) so I could rechart if I wanted. However, I imagine songs rebounding into our own top 40/50 will be rare on a retrochart unless it's based on our actual charts from the time or there was a contemporaneous reason (reissue/remix/repromoted) to justify it.

I have a rolling excel spreadsheet which updates the positions each time I get chart in.

There's only 1 point/position between #2 and 3 currently. So close!

We could possibly have 1 or 2 new top 10 hits this week aswell.
