The Specials get a third week at number one making “Too much too young” the longest running number one of the year so far. Meanwhile, Michael Jackson’s “Rock with you” has been stuck at number two now for three weeks. The highest new entry of the week comes from Blondie and their remixed version of “Atomic” which comes exploding in at number four. It's the third single to be lifted from their current album "Eat to the Beat" following "Dreaming" and "Union City Blue"
The US market got a different single release from the group last week as “Call me” entered the US charts. "Call me" isn't on "Eat to the Beat", it comes from the new movie “American Gigolo" starring Richard Gere. Blondie has confirmed that "Call me" will be their next UK single release sometime in April!

Back to this week's top ten and climbs for The Whispers, Peter Gabriel and The Ramones but not so good for John Foxx, The Boomtown Rats and Queen who all go down.

Further down the chart we find new entries from Elvis Costello and the Attractions at number 21, which is already in the UK mainstream top ten and The Police are raiding their debut album again – this time “So lonely” gets a re-release and enters at number 24. Great to see Kool and the Gang back in the charts with “Too hot” as well as Donna Summer with “On the radio”

Three new entries -- but Killing Joke's 'Wardance' couldn't quite dethrone the DK's after all, as I had all but forgotten how different the original 7" version is from the album track.

'I Zimbra' by Talking Heads is another single I had been waiting impatiently to list, as a general "February" was all I could find for a release date. That's two singles from the awesome Fear Of Music LP in the Top 20 now.

'Atomic' was never the among the biggest Blondie hits in Russronia but just managed to squeeze inside the Top 40 for what's probably some useful 60 points in the overall chart. Oh and that makes it three Blondie singles in the Russronian chart - probably a local record.

It's all change, as expected. Cliff gets his first chart topper of the 1980s (he'd have also hit the summit on my chart in 1979 with We Don't Talk Anymore too). Blondie almost debut at number one with the latest seminal hit from Eat To The Beat. Old progmeister Peter Gabriel storms the top 5, with a little help from his friend Katherine Bush. Costello's Imperial (bedroom) phase continues, with another smash to follow Oliver's Army into battle. The Police and Donna Summer notch up yet another hit apiece. Marti Webb's single is from the Lloyd Webber musical inspired by chart update information, "Tell Me On A Sunday".

Loving the commentary EG.
Quite a shock to see Cliff Richard at the top. But I think his singles from 1979 to 1982 were very good (apart from "Daddy's home"….excluding the title of course!)
The Specials tumbling from 7 to 20 nearly passing The Pretenders on the way!?!

Just off the top of my head, we have the likes of:

Dreamin'
The Only Way Out
Wired For Sound
A Little In Love
She Means Nothing To Me
Little Town

...between now and early 1983. And then, going back, singles like Devil Woman, My Kinda Life, Green Light and We Don't Talk would have all been huge for me.
