This week is a special week - as it's the chart after "Live Aid" - the global charity concert that took place last week for the Ethiopian Famine Relief Appeal.
Here are this week's Makers and Shakers!

Number 48 - new entry for OMD who now have two singles in the Retrochart,
"So in love" falls to Number 35 as "Secret" enters at Number 48:

Last edited:
Number 43 - New entry for Tina Turner and her new single called "We don't need another hero (Thunderdome")" which is from the new film "Mad Max III" starring Mel Gibson and Tina herself:

Number 36 - new entry for Five Star who also have two singles in the Retrochart:
"All fall down" falls to Number 33 as "Let me be the one" enters at Number 36:

Duran Duran rebound this week from 30 to 26 with "A view to a kill" - it's the Live Aid effect - let's not mention that bum note from Simon Le Bon!

Adam Ant also performed at Live Aid and "Vive Le Rock" shoots up from 40 to 24 this week:
"The world is watching...let's feed it!"

Simple Minds surprised everyone by performing in the USA at Live Aid rather then Wembley, London, UK...but what a performance of "Don't you (forget about me)" - as the camera pans around JFK Stadium in Philadelphia, USA - look at the size of that crowd! The single rebounds from 29 to 16 this week!

Howard Jones also performed at Live Aid ("Hide and Seek" on Freddie Mercury's Piano) - meanwhile his current single "Life in one day" climbs from 14 to 10:

Eurythmics go leaping into the Top Ten from 12 to 3 with "There must be an angel (playing with my heart)":

Dead or Alive get their third week at Number One with "In too deep":

Chartfile:
Dead or Alive make it three weeks at the top with “In too deep” leaving Harold Faltermeyer stuck at Number two with “Axel F”. Climbing inside the top ten are Eurythmics, Sting, Simply Red, Bryan Adams, Kool & the Gang and Howard Jones. Heading down are Bruce Springsteen and Tears For Fears,

Last Saturday was the big “Live Aid” concert and some of the artists who performed on the show have benefitted by climbing up the chart – already mentioned inside the top ten we have Sting (4), Bryan Adams (8) and Howard Jones (10) – further climbers are Dire Straits (17), The Style Council (23), Adam Ant (24), Tina Turner (43) and some are rebounding – Simple Minds (16) and Duran Duran (26) – despite Simon Le Bon’s bum note!

This week’s highest new entry comes in at Number 36 for Five Star and their fourth single called “Let me be the one” – like the previous three it’s on their new album called “The Luxury of Life”

The longest runner on the chart is the former chart topper from Tears For Fears - “Everybody wants to rule the world”, which falls from 47 to 49 after 17 weeks in the chart

Next week could see new entries from The Cure, Gary Moore, Prince & the Revolution, Phil Collins, D-Train, Loose Ends, Galaxy and Madonna – stay tuned!

Are you thinking of creating a "Mix Tape" of the HMV Retrochart Number Ones of the 1980's?
110 songs so far have made it to the summit - but can you find a cassette long enough to fit them all on...who knows maybe in the future Home Computers can solve this issue with a new format?!
