A US #2 in early March, this song from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack climbs 17-14 in the UK this week. Mixed fortunes on our retrocharts as it slumps on a couple of charts but enters the top ten on a couple of others, overall it jumps 11-5.

Madonna retains a healthy lead at the summit for a third week. It slides 3-5 in the US this week as next single Crazy For You moves ahead 4-3.

She now joins Kim Carnes and Kim Wilde as the only female artists on the leaderboard for most weeks at #1 - seven so far. She is the only female artist so far to score two chart toppers within a calendar year.

Chartfile W/e 13th April 1985
Congratulations to Madonna who makes it Three weeks at the Summit with "Material Girl" - her next UK single will most likely be "Crazy for you". Meanwhile, climbing inside the Top Ten are Frankie goes to Hollywood, Glenn Frey, David Grant & Jaki Graham and Alison Moyet. Non-Movers are Tears for Fears (3) and The Power Station (4). Heading down are Go West, Paul Young and Phil Bailey & Phil Collins. Can anyone knock Madonna from the summit? Only @phoenix123 has the answers - stay tuned!
