If I Was A Man – Introducing Jessica Sutta

Average: 6.086

Highest: 4 x 10 (@GhettoPrincess, @Reboot, @Remorque, @Weslicious)

Lowest: 1 x 0 (@lemonsqueezyy), 1 x 1 (@ohnostalgia)

If I Were A Boy hew? I find this to be boppable, but it has aged absolutely terribly. Probably my least favourite of the non-Nicole solo tracks. Our commentators were divided as well.

Weslicious disagrees with me, ‘The best of the Solo tracks. Always happy when I listen to it, but also sad as I know it's downhill from here.’ HmmT. GhettoPrincess is one of the 10 givers, ‘Such a bop. It’s so annoying to hear her effortless pull off this type of song and never really get her time to shine until the group was almost over. Also make sure you check out Show Me which is by far her best solo song.’ She’s not the only Show Me stan in the building, evilsin, reveal yourself, ‘It's certainly not Show Me. Props for giving Nervo twins some money though.’ Show Me is indeed a bop, but a little bit too The Saturdays-esque for me. Reboot also stans, ‘I absolutely love this, to be honest. I’m glad these bonus tracks exist as I think they do a really good job at introducing the other girls. And this song in particular is just so happy and cheerful. I like the lyrics a lot.’ I agree, I love the fact that every girl got the limelight for at least, even if the said limelight might be a dated song xxxx. Sprockrooster reveals ha dragging skills, ‘It is clear that Nicole rejected this to one of her backup singers dancers.’ You’re that girl I knew you were. PCDPG likes it, ‘a good dance song. And we can’t forget the lipsynced adlibs on tour!’ Nn, I don’t think the adlibs were the only thing she lipsynced. Slice of Life is surprisingly here for it, ‘Really fun. And I'm kinda shqqk that this unnie has working lungs. I mean, the girl can sing.’ You’re that girl I didn’t know you were. Lemonsqueezyy ruthlessly denies the existence of the song, ‘Unforgivable.

Remorque is here for the unnie, ‘Jessica has a really nice tone to her voice and the bridge is delicious. I remember listening to this one a lot at the time. Justice for the better I Have a Boy!’ Another person to point out a JSutta song is Filler, ‘Okay but why isn't "I Wanna Be Bad" on Spotify?’ I’ll put it on my list of songs I will make available on Spotify after I take over the company. It’ll be second only to TWICE’s discography.

Nawt when this exists you don't.

But also.

Show Me is indeed a bop, but a little bit too The Saturdays-esque for me.

That being said like it's a bad thing.

I... must vote a little differently to some other folks, because to me, if I give something a 10, it's basically me saying 'I wouldn't mind this winning if my 11 doesn't'.

So, in all honesty, would some of y'all really be fine with any of the solo songs winning this entire rate?! I mean, I can understand the concept of voting tactically, but... lesser so in a non vs rate, really.

I mean, to each their own! I just cannot think of a cheap, tinny demo-sounding track being equated to like... Don't Cha?! Buttons?!?!?! Presuming you gave them 10s too - heavens above if you didn't.

Baby Love – Nicole Scherzinger

Lowest: 3 x 0 (@GhettoPrincess, @Sprockrooster, @lemonsqueezyy)

Nicole’s second single from her scrapped debut album. It did semi-well, but I guess not what they were expecting. I agree that it’s a very cute track, but is it strong enough to sustain a career as a solo artist? Well.. I also prefer the original to the version that was tacked on Doll Domination. This is probably our most controversial elimination yet, there were some strong opinions about it.

Let’s start with one of the 10 givers, tylerc904, ‘Love this. Even will/that shambolic performance always posted/floppage can't distract me from bopping. The remixed version (I think the single mix?) on Doll Domination is really superior.’ The AMAs one? Dddd. That award show has brought us so much joy, I am forever thankful for its existence. Another person who prefers this version is PCDPG, ‘I like this remix version more than the original but it’s quite weird that it’s included on the groups album.’ I don’t think GhettoPrincess likes any version, ‘Awful.’ Sprockrooster has 0ed it as well, ‘This was a horrible song, before it got the awful rework for this album. Will.I.Am should stop ruining the pop girls.’ Okay, catch the motherfucking tea on that. I could handle him in doses in the 2000s, but his later stuff.. Yikes. Remorque and ha subtle shade remain my faves, ‘The version that was eventually released on whatever reissue of Doll Dominationa.k.a. the final album version can go suck a dick, but the original (kinda) slow jam still slays. I hate giving a 10 to a solo Nicole track (HAHA!), yet here I am.’ Filler is one of the many puzzled by the inclusion of the song, ‘If they had to throw in a Nicole Scherzinger solo song (I mean, in addition to almost every other song in the rate), why did it have to be this and not Whatever U Like or Supervillain or even Puakenikeni? And, more pressingly, the fuck are those 90s-ass Tekken-character-select sound effects doing in that second verse?’ Nn indeed.

The sis evilsin is stanning, ‘I'm still flabberghasted that will.fucking.i.am produced this gorgeous song. It might be repetitive, but, god, I adore it.’ I’m glad that as a community we have unanimously agreed to trash will.i.am every chance we get. Weslicious serves some freshly brewed tea, ‘I prefer this version to the single version (in-spite of slightly more will.i.am) but it still sounds like a third single J-Lo track from around 2004-2010 aka nothing that was gonna launch a solo career.’ It really was a wrong choice. Pecans agrees, ‘Baby Love is a serviceable bop but it was the wrong choice for her second single. Very catchy though, so kudos for that.’ Reboot is a fan, ‘I’m not really sure why this song on the album because it’s more distinctly solo than the other bonus tracks and even the Nicole-heavy PCD songs, but it’s nice. It’s summery and breezy.’ Slice of Life unnie is up last, and she has something to say, ‘This didn't age that well ddddd. But it's still cute.’

Nn at the intro for the music video promoting Bottle Pop.

The aforementioned AMAs performance. The camera cutting to Bey is my personal highlight.

I had no idea Nicole actually promoted 'Baby Love' and it legitimately flopped. I get why a few years later she gave up on the US despite having mega-hit Poison.

Never submitted my rate in time, so I'll just be commentating. I actually am still bitter about her ditching my country and having to import the album FUCK YOU NICOLE.

Don’t Wanna Fall In Love – Introducing Kimberly Wyatt

Average: 6.414

Highest: 3 x 10 (@Reboot, @lemonsqueezyy, @Remorque)

Lowest: 3 x 3 (@Terminus, @Lost In Japan., @Slice of Life)

Okay but the instrumental is giving me Pokémon Casino music and my thrussy is here for it. The vocals are a nn, but it’s a bop nonetheless. It’s been brought to my attention from the lovely commentators that this appears to be a cover. Ddddddddd, poor Kim, couldn’t even snatch an original song. I checked out the original and it seems almost the same ddd.

We start with the Kimberly stan, Slice of Life (always had you pegged as an Ashley girl for some reason), ‘DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD MAIN VOCAL KWEEN. She was always my fave but her vocals... kii. I'll keep it cute. Don't wanna slander my fave.’ Filler is not here for the sis, ‘I love how incredibly naff all these solo songs are. Were they even slightly attempting to set themselves up as potential contemporary popstars? "Yes my solo ambition is to go back to 1986 and record some SAW cast-offs, can you set that up for me please"’ Nn, what’s a SAW? Meanwhile, Remorque stans a bit, ‘Whew thought the most unremarkable member would bring us the best 80s bawp out of the solo efforts, eh? It’s very close to the Jane Child original (except for the new outro), but I don’t fucking care. She’s having the best time and actually sounds good. Justice for triers!’ But does she really?

The vocals seem to be the pain bone of contention. For PCDPG, it’s got ‘a bit too much autotune’, which doesn’t bother Reboot, ‘Relatable bop. I hope people won’t sleep on this just because it’s a bonus track with questionable vocals.’ Sprockrooster has some tyra_banks _rooting_for_you.gif words of advice for Kimberly, ‘You get one shot to profile yourself and you cover a classic?! And you keep it close to the original? That is how you kill a solo career before it even started. At least Melody had some artistic integrity and tried something new. The original song is great and since she stayed rather close to the original it is not all bad.Weslicious is nodding along, ‘Poor Kim doesn't even get an original composition. And Lord knows what they did to her voice in post-production effects wise. She just sounds so nondescript.’ The song doesn’t do much for GhettoPrincess, ‘She’s by far the least vocally talented but a great performer. This song doesn’t really showcase that for her.’ Lemonsqueezyy stans, ‘Fucking fun.’ and evilsin finishes us off with some lethal shade, ‘Smart to go for a cover.’ Ddddd SIS. Don’t let @Slice of Life unnie see this.

Nn this is so iconic live:
