The Pussycat Dolls

Umm what kinf of top 5 is that (of Doll Domination) if When I Grow Up isn't it?

Second album lacked bangers the first one had... I can only think of Bottle Pop and Magic. Too many rnb ballads/midtempos
When I Grow Up just feels too monotonous and static for my taste. This would be my top five of the songs on Doll Domination:

1. Halo
2. Magic
3. I Hate This Part
4. Painted Windows
5. Love The Way You Love Me

The fact that Halo and Magic were never released as singles is a pop crime.

Nicole not becoming a star of the same magnitude as Jlo and Bey felt like such a waste. Talent, a voice, a personality and she can move as well as being drop dead gorgeous. Shame she was always given Riheats. The material always let her down though.
Talented, amazing voice, gorgeous.. 100% with you. Personality though? I think her lack of charisma is actually the reason she never happened solo.

There's also the fact that Nicole was probably not even supposed to be there after the first album, so imagine their surprise when she came back for album #2 full force.

This is new information! What's the tea with Nicole not being in the group after the first album? I've never heard that before.

‘I Hate This Part’, ‘When I Grow Up’, and ‘Whatcha Think About That (Club Mix)’ were the top three from that album. ‘Hush Hush; Hush Hush’ provided a gay fever dream victory lap, and ‘Takin’ Over the World’, ‘Bottle Pop’, and ‘Elevator’ all served as decent supports for touring etc, whilst ageing dubiously to different degrees.

Have gripes about vocal distribution etc, but one thing you can’t really fault them for was their singles run. It’s pretty much spotless, with not exactly many more potential opportunities missed.

There was also this video of the new members.

Love how Nicole's face dropped when she thought that the previous lineup had been resurrected.

I can't tell if her face dropped negatively, or happily thinking it was the old group?

The dynamics of the group toward 2010 always confused me. Were they all getting along (sans Melody) despite their roles?

I don't think there's anything concrete about this per say.

We know Nicole wanted to (and well, did) go solo right after PCD (the album), so I guess people assumed she would have officially left the group if her solo career had caught on. 'Doll Domination' is basically the solo album that was meant to be released by Nicole, but reworked to fit the Pussycat Dolls a little bit better.

Add to this the fact that Robin Antin was always pretty open about the 'Pussycat Dolls' being a brand, more so than a group per say, I think she might have envisioned an affair where the line-up is constantly rotating/shifting/changing, but the name remains the same - because "everyone can be a Pussycat Dolls/we all have one inside of us". Afterall, that how the burlesque troupe was originally (it had lots of different front runner/lead performer). And obviously, as demonstrated by the few posts earlier, there was a time when she did try to replace the four dolls with new girls and sell it as The Pussycat Dolls nonetheless.

Nicole made it a condition on her signing onto the Dolls that she'd get a solo contract too. She spent all of the initial era attempting to build her profile and then was already recording solo music in 2006/2007 in the lead up to Her Name Is Nicole. When that didn't pan out she relocated a bunch of her tracks to the second album.
