The Real Housewives of Atlanta (S16)

This show has turned into the most fever-dream version of itself of all the cities.
Dd truly. If someone had told us at the start of season 15 that for season 16 Kandi, Kenya, Sheree, and Marlo would all be gone, Drew would be the only returning housewife, Porsha, Phaedra, and Cynthia would all come back AND Shamea would get a peach... it sounds insane. But I'm actually kind of confident that we'll be getting a fun season, at the very least.

I'm glad Shady PhaePhae is back but I find it weird (this needs to be said again): Firing someone for exposing something sexual that a cast member did (or didn't do) on TV and then hiring someone who was fired previously because she accused another cast member of date rape as a replacement?

Make that make sense for me PUHLEASE.

I have resigned myself to the fact that this will be a complete mess. When they announced the cast in May I was actually very hopeful. The Kenya issue is still unclear; if she did what's alleged she should of course have been reprimanded/fired. For a few weeks there I thought she would return with her tail between her legs, but that's out the window. I just want to know the full story, and whether any of it will be included in the show.

Between Porsha not being able to film in her home/Simon blocking scenes right at the start, followed by Kenya's stunt, now with Phaedra making a comeback seemingly 75% into the season.. It's a shit show. I'm sure Brit Eady will not be well-received since Team Twirl will see her as the reason Kenya is gone. And then we have Drew and Shamea going for some battle of the Bubbling Under iTunes R&B Chart dd. Whenever we eventually get this (which I bet won't be before February/March time), it's going to be so interesting to see how they deal with the trailer, editing, cast announcements etc.

He/him
Why are we pretending that Phaedra wasn't one of the best to ever do it? Not a single season she was on and a prominent part of was a flop, which is more than can be said for several of her castmates.
I think the fake bombing, the mysterious pregnancy date and her general lack of self-awareness are all funny and good for the show, I'm just not sure that the current Bravo people in charge of the show understand that most of us weren't really laughing with her, but... at her. I refuse to see an episode of Married to Medicine (no one say anything) but the general promotion around her casting at the time seemed to be very... positive as opposed to ridiculing her for the fact that she's not even married or a doctor (her head doctor title not counting). Obviously that casting stunt seemed to have backfired but that's another story nn Now I fear they're going to pivot into trying to portray her in a more... glamorous light here as well when Phaedra's best moments are her being a horrible liar and a sneak!

Anyways, *in my affected voice* @constantino was there looking like a *centuries long dramatic pause*... pretzel covered in cottage cheese *ridiculous facial expression for the camera*

I'm just excited for the show to have some fun and genuine friendships at the core of it again. The last few seasons (last year especially), the vibe was getting dangerously close to where we're at with Jersey now, which is the feeling that the girls only wanted to get together to take each other down. None of them were genuinely interested in spending time together. I love that they're bringing Shamea on along with Porsha, because regardless of what Shamea ends up bringing to the table personally, at least we know they're long-time friends and we'll get some real fun, bonding moments. Same with Cynthia and now Phaedra. Of course I want mess, too, but the mess is so much better when it's balanced out by some laughter and fun. No one used to achieve that balance like the girls on Atlanta, and while I don't think we're necessarily going to return to the absolute peak of the series, I do think this cast has the potential to at least get back to the core of what worked.

While she did have some iconic reads and moment (I regularly watch the scene where she's lying about her due date), this all feels a bit icky to me.

I get it, TV companies are ruthless, only care about money and ratings, but the way they went from Andy saying that Kandi was "one of the greats", how she changed the way they do things behind the scenes and he was really sad she was leaving. Then the moment she's gone they're getting back the person who tried to ruin both Kandi's life and career. Sure, Andy probably didn't make this decision on his own, but he both he and Bravo are really showing that they ain't s**t.

Plus, the irony of all this being that had they got their act together and not kept everyone waiting, Kandi would probably still be doing the show and they wouldn't be having to scramble around for Housewives.

I'm not the one defending Cokeden & Co. but the sequence of events was Kenya back, then Kenya fired only then they HAD to bring Phaedra back - she's the only other OG that made a mark. They will never call Nene and since Sheree was fired as well that's the option they had. I don't think Bravo ever thought they'd need her back on RHOA because she was already on Married to Med. I believe the comments about Kandi being one of the greats were made before all of this mess happened.

But do I think they would've invited Phaedra back if Kandi was still on the show? No they wouldn't dare.
