The Real Housewives of Atlanta

I really like Kandi on the show, I think she's as good as she's ever been, but I do suspect filming being worked around her schedule is part of why the group largely feels fragmented. I hadn't realized it until my partner pointed it out but there are so many more solo scenes in modern Atlanta. The group dynamic is where it thrives because these women are all willing to play ball, it's just a matter of actually getting them together in the same room.

That said, I thought the last episode was good! Marlo is having a stronger season and I do think there's plenty of mileage in her vs. Kenya. Drew willingly blowing her nose on camera for a confessional where she was 100% no longer sick was camp.

I'm very much enjoying this season, my highlights so far being:
- Marlo and Courtney joining forces to terrorise Kandi and Kenya
- Courtney.
- Drew continuing to accumulate Ls at an alarming rate despite only being in 2/4 episodes so far
- Kenya terrorising her staff
- Kenya being outed as a salad tosser
- “We don’t know when we go to Old Lady Gang whether we’re going to get biscuits or bullets” being re-shown roughly every ten minutes

I am only now watching last week and I have grown to love Drew (and Candice) but that venue/audience... so many empty tables. Good for them for doing their thing tho.

Courtney is a star and Bryce is a snack!

Nene's trajectory is depressing the fuck out of me. Like, ATL to Hollywood to...begrudgingly back to ATL? And then, I presume, off this show completely? She is such a star but also lowkey her worst enemy. She fascinates me.
Also, without sounding like a dick, does she actually do anything nowadays? She’s nowhere to be seen in entertainment outside of random podcasts and most (all?) of her boutiques closed down during Covid. The Bravo lawsuit really felt like she sabotaged her career at the end.

I know very little about the lawsuit so I’m so interested to dive into it once I’m further into the series (I guess after Nene’s return?).

I’m kinda glad I kept myself somewhat spoiler free for Atlanta because it really does deserve dedicated viewing. I know there’s a fight, I think at a reunion, plus the basics of the Phaedra thing (which is gonna kill me because I love her), but otherwise I really don’t know much about the drama.

Also I don’t know if you’re all ironically stanning Cynthia, but I’ve always loved her! She is the best “normal/boring” housewife across all the series. (Although Kandi, Carole, and Garcelle are the best “grounded” housewives).

She’s a judge on an upcoming reality show for Fox and she still has her lounge. I know she sold her house for a good amount of money and bought a lavish condo inside a hotel. She seems to be doing well financially and is always traveling the world. I do wonder how she is so wealthy. Maybe good investments? Of course when she was on the show, for many years she was making $2 million a season so she could just be good at saving.

I am loving the season so far! Every episode has been funny and not without drama; I don't necessarily think the solution to every problem this show has is to just bring back a former cast member. There are other things they can do to help the show - the first being actually promoting it.

I'm enjoying this season so far. It's had the right level of fun and fights.

I can appreciate that Courtney is bringing out Kandi's shaky voice, but she's bad vibes. It also doesn't surprise me that Marlo has latched onto her.

Speaking of Marlo, I've said it before - she should not be a housewife. Just as the trailer for this season suggested, she's still doing the same nonsense. And her constant need to always be antagonising Kenya is so so old at this point. All that stuff outside her door this week was so uncalled for. I don't think the show told us what time it was but it was clearly night time and they knew she had Brooklyn with her. I know of course that she wasn't the only one who was doing stuff in that moment.

I feeeeel like I might be warming to Drew, which I never thought I would say. But Sanya is still terrible.

Those ratings are rough but on top of being a holiday weekend it was also the series finale of Succession on Sunday night which I know a lot of people (myself included) watched instead of RHOA. They should hopefully have a solid bounce back next week.

For real though, how important are these live ratings with Peacock now?

I completely cut the cable since Peacock got Bravo next day cause it was the only channel I was still watching.

I’m genuinely curious. More and more people I know are starting to completely ditch cable and just rely on individual streaming services that they watch regularly.

The +3 and +7 day ratings (inclusive of DVR and streaming data) is way more important now than just the overnight ratings, but that information isn’t publicly available. The overnight/live 18-49 demo numbers are still important to advertisers though, so they do still hold some weight in terms of funding, budget, etc…

That episode was a hot mess. Obsessed with Shereé as always though. Cousin Courtney is hilarious, as is Drew's ability to take L after L (I'm actually warming to her now).

I could see Atlanta getting one more season at least. They'll definitely do all they can to get Porsha back next season and I think Kim will be approached now her life is falling apart.

Mama Joyce at Kandi's musical opening.
