The Reissue Thread!

I quite like Epiphany, but because it features so much new (or previously unreleased at any rate) material, (and even beyond that includes further album tracks) it does such a bad job of actually including almost any of her hit singles.

See, I know nothing of Chaka outside of Epiphany and her Funk This album so I just meant as a collection of songs. Fair enough that it isn't quite a solid representation of her hits.

Epiphany's a strange one...it's got several tracks from a scrapped album, hasn't it? So Warners put them on the compilation, and that saw out her contract. The 2CD from Music Club - when dozens of those were coming out almost weekly - is a pretty good collection, though design-wise a bit basic.

I love Chaka. My own anthology takes up 5 discs. I crammed everything I could onto it!

I like Epiphany but it is a strange one. Unlike most greatest hits collections which feature one to four new songs, this had quite a number of new tracks. Maybe it was a compromise between Warner, who wanted a hits collection, and Chaka, who wanted a new album.

I've always disliked the inclusion of the live version of Tell Me Something Good. It sticks out, especially at track three. It would have been better to go with Clouds or Love You All My Lifetime.

Very big HoJo BBC live set on Cherry Red, looks tasty.

https://www.cherryred.co.uk/product/howard-jones-at-the-bbc-5cd-clamshell-box/

5CD box set encapsulating the very best of Howard Jones’ BBC Session and live concert performance broadcasts

• Featuring nine previously unreleased session tracks including ‘What Can I Say?’ which is remastered from the original master tape for the very first time

• All the live performance tracks (bar eight from the Oxford Road Show) are previously unreleased, including three songs from this live performance that were not broadcast at the time and are previously unheard and unreleased: ‘Like To Get To Know You Well’, ‘No One Is To Blame’ and ‘Don’t Always Look At The Rain’/‘Things Can Only Get Better’.

• Plus a 16-page CD booklet including a sleeve note by Anil Prasad in conversation with Howard reflecting on his ‘80s BBC Session and live recordings.

Decades before YouTube and streaming, the biggest influence on British pop music fans was exposure to artists via the BBC. In the ‘80s, BBC Radio remained a primal force in establishing the relevance and momentum of musicians, including for Howard Jones, himself.

In the period between 1983-87, the BBC broadcast four different sessions by Howard; two of these for the Kid Jensen Show and two for the Janice Long Show. This 5CD box set contains all 19 of these session tracks including the complete ‘White Tape’ demo recordings that Howard gave to the BBC to broadcast as his second session in May of 1983.

The box set also includes three In Concert live performances and the previously unheard complete Oxford Road Show performance that was simulcast on BBC Radio 1 and BBC2 on 15th March 1985.

As Howard himself said in conversation with sleeve note writer Anil Prasad; “This set is a really valuable, historical document. You hear me before the first album was released, after I’ve had success, my evolution from a solo performer to a band-focused performer, and all of it happened across only four years from 1983-1987. There’s so much variety in the sessions, even among songs that appear multiple times. It’s a series of snapshots from a very important time in my career. It’s fascinating for me to listen to and reflect on so many years later. I hope the same holds true for the fans as well.”

I know I shouldn't be so shallow and should concentrate on the great tracklisting of the HoJo set but the cover is something else. Trying to make it look as 80s as possible. On the whole his artwork tended to be a bit more tasteful than that.

Great set, very unexpected detour from the deluxe editions of his studio work. But I agree with @RaggedTiger , the cover is naff and screams budget compilation.

The Janice Long version of No One Is To Blame was a highlight for me, just before the album came along and let me down.

Oxford Road Show concerts were always pretty good. OMD, Tears For Fears and HoJo especially.

PRESS RELEASE: When Falco began to work on his fourth studio album “Emotional“ in spring 1986, he was one of a few internationally successful artists singing in German language. Reaching #1 of the Billboard Hot 100 charts with “Rock Me Amadeus” from his previous album “Falco 3” in March 1986, he is the only artist ever achieving this historic summit in the US with a song in German. Adding this fact to his superstar status in German speaking countries and most of Europe, shows the magnitude a new Falco album meant to the music world at that time.
Celebrating the album’s 35th anniversary, Warner Music will release “Emotional (Remastered Version)” on October, 29, 2021. The album will be available in various physical formats including a Deluxe Box Set (3CD/1DVD), 1CD, 1LP (180g, black vinyl), 1LP (180g, limited transparent red colored vinyl) and digital versions.
The release of “Emotional” was another successful chapter in Falco’s outstanding career. Released on November 1st, 1986, the album went straight to #1 in Germany and Austria and top 10 in several other European territories. Marking his debut with Warner Music, “Emotional” was the second Bolland und Bolland produced Falco album and including singles such as “The Sound of Musik”, which had great success outside the German-speaking countries as well and reached the US top 20 Dance chart, and “Coming Home (Jeanny Part 2. Ein Jahr Danach - One Year Later)”, which reached the top of the German charts and was a sequel to Falco’s famous 1985 song “Jeanny” about a young woman who had disappeared for a year and still hadn’t been found. Other notable tracks of the album were “Emotional”, “The Kiss of Kathleen Turner”, and “Kamikaze Capa”, the latter written as a tribute to the late photojournalist Robert Capa. In 1987, Falco embarked on the “Emotional” world tour, which was concluded in Japan.
Besides the original album, the Deluxe Box Set (digipack) features selected mixes and single versions and tracks from the “Emotional” world tour recorded on November 4, 1986 in Frankfurt/Main, Germany and broadcast on television the following year. Eleven songs from the performance were selected and will now be released on DVD for the first time. The Deluxe Box Set is completed with a 20 pages booklet including new liner notes and unseen pictures. The track list of the digital version is the same as the as the 3CD of the Deluxe Edition.
The first song previewing the Emotional Deluxe Edition is available today: "Emotional (Extended NY Mix) [English Version] [2021 Remaster] ". Listen here: http://rhinode.click/EmotionalNYGM
The album's original cover, a still from the promotional video for the title track, pays homage to Elvis Presley in his 1968 “Comeback Special”. Undoubtedly one music history’s greats himself, Falco stands out as the bestselling Austrian artist of all time, selling overall 20M albums and 40M singles and scoring several international hits such as “Rock Me Amadeus”, “Der Kommissar”, "Vienna Calling", "Jeanny", "The Sound of Musik", "Coming Home (Jeanny Part II, One Year Later)", and posthumously, "Out of the Dark".
