The Reissue Thread!

That makes two of us. And I was so sure I didn’t want it. #facepalm
Glad I'm not the only one! I've always felt Electric Youth is such a comedown from Out of the Blue (I'm sure Debbie herself said a lot of it was songs she had from those sessions which didn't make the cut and it really does sound like a bunch of leftovers to me) and I literally took the title track and We Could Be Together and ran. Still I am powerless to resist all the house mixes of the two songs that I do like!

I guess Atlantic was smart. They knew they had to strike the iron while it’s hot. Teenage pop fans are so fickle. I was one of them! I cooled towards her quickly after this album.

Me too. I went from being obsessed with Out of the Blue in 1988 to never buying anything by Debbie again until the big boxset came out a few years ago. Of course in those pre-internet days when popstars began flopping it did feel like they had fallen off the face of the earth.

What are the differences between the Remix, Radio Mix & Edit of ''We Could Be Together, folks? Pretty sure we had the ''Edit'' as the single version in the UK, but where are the other two mixes from?

I do like some of the songs on the ''Electric Youth'' album - the three singles (never really liked ''Lost In Your Eyes''), ''Should've Been The One'' & ''Over The Wall'' namely but, as a whole, the album feels very ''muddy'' and bland. Unpopular opinion, but I always thought ''Anything Is Possible'' was a great album & still do!

This sounds like me. It was so weird with both Tiffany and Debbie Gibson because I loved them both so much in 1987/88, almost as much as I loved (and still love) Madonna, Whitney, Janet, and Jody but I just didn't have the same loyalty to the former as I did to the latter.

I struggled to get through Electric Youth. But happy for the fans it's being reissued.

Tiffany and Debbie sadly weren't around long enough to build a loyal fanbase. Two albums from both and then really their time in the spotlight was done. I always wished they could have made the transition from teen to adult star like Britney and Christina 10 years later.

So is the general consensus that Electric Youth was a disappointing follow-up to Out of the Blue?

The single was remixed for it's release, a fresh beefed up version of the album version. A full length version of that mix was included on a US CD Promo with the edit but neither were given a remix title name (it also have the live video mix on it too).

Not sure there's much I want that isn't already on the boxset. Or on the CD singles i have.

I thought Electric Youth was a really strong album. I followed Debbie all the way through her career. Loved Anything is Possible album and Body Mind Soul. Wrote to EMI in the UK when i heard she had signed to EMI (for Think with your heart) they wrote back to me to tell me I should write to the USA.

I joined her fanclub around 1997 so I could buy 'Deborah' (her 6th album) from them. Love Deb and her new album is really really good. Not a duff track.

The Body Remembers is great, I was surprised how good it was. Her best since Out of the Blue for me.

This Debbie reissue programme is pretty quicl, isn't it ? One in Oct, one in Nov. Are they getting a break on Dec or could we expect an Anything Is Possible reissue ? I think this reissue programme includes the 4 Atlantic albums... Jan for Body, Mind And Soul ?
I would have add Without You as track #12 and then the remixes. I don't like album tracks-remixes-bside way
Edit: Does Without You really belongs to EY ? It was inluded in the AIP Japan edition...

The next 2 next year. Reissues take a bit of break in December and part way through Jan.

It was released between albums but was from the EY sessions. They didn't repackage albums very often back then and Japan will often add an extra track.

On the one hand, I wish I could have the lovely standalones for Out of the Blue and Electric Youth (I love both albums fairly equally, unpopular I know) instead of having purchased the massive boxset. But I know I would never have explored her post-Body Mind Soul albums if I hadn't got them in the boxset. So I can't regret it!

The ‘Radio mix’ is probably the short remix from the 3” CD single, a ghastly house remix from Steve Hurley. I was gutted when I finally got the CD a few years ago. So far removed from the glorious original.

Unlike the incredible Pettibone remixes of ‘Electric youth’… so, so good.

I remember getting the EY tape and being devastated at how much filler it had outside or Together and the amazing Over The Wall - which should have been the third single.

I was the same with Hold An Old's Friend Hand but with that album, after a few listens I fell in love with it.

Over the wall is amazing and should have been a single indeed! Agreed that there is so much filler on this one, but all those mixes... yes please!

I'm super intrigued to see what's going to be on the Body Mind Soul reissue, I only discovered the album on the box set and enjoyed it so much more that I thought I would. Shock Your Mama is pure camptastic pop! Does any one know if there were many mixes done from this era?

It's surprising she hasn't stuck any demos on these so far. I was hoping the likes of "Spellbound" would find its way on to the OOTB release. Maybe they will release them after the four Atlantic albums have been released?
