What about the DoA boxset ?
Amazon and Discogs reviews doesn't sound so great...

Info about track sources:

7-06, 8-07, 11-02, 14-04, 15-07, 15-09, 15-12 and 22-09 are all lossy (some ripped directly from YouTube) and vinyl sourced - they're from the same sources as the 'Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI'.
- 15-07 ('Baby Don't Say Goodbye (The Powerful Club Twelve)') has heavy noise reduction applied in the intro.
- 22-09 ('You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) (Blue Sky Mix)') plays too fast (pitch being affected) and skips in the intro.

12-06 and 12-07 are vinyl sourced - they're from the same sources as the Let Them Drag My Soul Away set.

1-05 and 2-02 have been taken directly from the 2007 Cherry Pop 'Sophisticated Boom Boom' CD reissue. Each track (more noticeably on 'Selfish Side') has the ending of their respective preceding tracks from that release erroneously mixed into their intros.

22-04 skips in the second verse - this is from the same source as the 'Sophisticated Boom Box MMXVI'. Like that set, this mix should be the the the full 5:00 version, but it's the 4:36 edit that appeared on the US CD release of 'Nukleopatra'. (Note: that CD does not have the skip.)

When comparing the mastering of this set to the original CD (where applicable) releases the tracks appeared on, the dynamic range on the originals is superior and hasn't been affected by brickwalling / excessive loudness - which this release has.

Great idea for a box set and even has a few tracks not included in previous Dead or Alive box sets.

Sadly all 27 CD are ruined by unnecessary compression during mastering, which makes them uncomfortable to listen to.

Hopefully one day I will get the chance to buy sets like this again once the standard of mastering returns to the music industry. Most CDs after 1992 seem to suffer from similar poor sound, but there are a few exceptions.

I have many of the original records, but not everything presented here.
The box and individual sleeves are great and there is an informative booklet. If only similar care had been given to the most important thing - the sound. The dynamic range sounds well below 9 and really anything less than 11 is unacceptable when some of the original releases had a dynamic range of 14 or more.

I was afraid to order it so didn't bother.

I was also wondering about the Donna set. I wonder if there may be a delay due to the videos?

BTW, is the Mariah Carey Music Box 30th Anniversary edition worth picking up? It's a bit scarce here in Canada for some reason but thinking of getting it. Wondering what PJers thought of it?

I would say that the Music Box 30th set is very good and the sound quality to these years anyway, is pretty solid as well.

I tried 4 different Japanese websites, but none of them has a preorder of the set. The only active preorder links are from European sites with March 1 as a release date.

Really don't think they're ever going to learn. Is it lack of interest, lack of money, lack of ability....maybe all the above.
Right. Well.. as long as it has a remastered single version of “Rebel Rebel” in qood quality (and hopefully from a good source) it’ll be worth it (though someone do let us know if they start the replacement cycle again).

I also ordered the demos and rarities boxset to complete my DOA collection, any issues on that? (Hopefully not).

SDE hasn't posted my comment about the Cutting Crew or Climie Fisher sets in this week's releases, though CC is already out. Very odd, i thought they would have been a good topic, especially as Cutting Crew had their 15 minutes on both sides of the Atlantic. Anyone got the CC set and can comment on the usual topics?

Donna Summer Japanese Singles Collection now listed for 27 March on CDJapan. English translation of titles is a little erratic as ever from a Japanese source.

Well, 2-19 is “Work That Magic” so wonder if it’ll be the remix edit we’re all asking for. I will wait until reviews come back.

I for one am excited for 1-1’s “scary threatening phone call”. I jest, it’s most likely “The Hostage”.

The Japan CD Mini has the USA Remix listed, so imagine it will be the 5:00 one but we could be surprised.

I saw that. Most translations are quite hilarious.

They have normally gone with what was the used for the single release in Japan, and they don't always release the edits. With the amount of tracks on that disc, I am now fairly hopeful it will be the edit.
My playlist mock up of Disc 2 is at 87m (even using the heinous edit of “She Works Hard…”) and the max is 80m, no? Unless SHM-CD can hold more minutes?

I may just get it for the Disc 1 versions. Hopefully they’re the “proper” single versions.

EDIT: Don’t know why I called the “She Works Hard…” edit “heinous”, I got it confused lol.
