    07 Use Me
    08 Anything At All
    09 My Baby's Heartbeat
    10 The Dress
    11 Stay With Me

    Bonus Recordings

Agree totally. Loved the singles but the album was pretty dire. What a weird choice to re-release!

  3. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

It's quite in demand by DJ-types, apparently... the samples and what not were very ahead of their time. The original CD is badly in need of remastering... pretty quiet/tinny. And the bonus mixes were restricted to vinyl only in some cases... I still have the original CD singles and album. I welcome this release if only because it means they can very realistically get their hands on the rest of the Rhythm King roster, if it sells alright, which means S'Express and Betty Boo re-issues, etc. There are some amazing S'Express mixes... the Spatial Expansion Mix of 'Hey Music Lover (a very early William Orbit production) is brilliant. Bomb The Bass also have a new album out this year, by the way.

Speaking of S'Express, I've always wanted the 7" mix of Mantra on CD. I'm going to check amazon for any possible comps of theirs!

Anyone here ever had much luck getting a favorite album reissued? I am just interested as I am going to put in a few suggestions.

Does anyone know anything about the reissue of Duran Duran's debut album? Is it going to be out on Cherry Pop?The track listing looks quite impressive.

  6. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

EMI are holding Duran Duran so it wont be on Cherry Red. Cherry Red really specialise in the lesser known stuff.

  7. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

I shall check what I have for you... I'm pretty sure I have this somewhere. I was obsessed with S'Express. I have loads of dance compilations on CD, too, from around then so I bet I have this even if it never made it onto an actual S'Express CD release.

    EDIT: That was easy - it's on the CD single that I have;

Mantra For A State Of Mind(7")/Special and Golden/Mantra For A State Of Mind[Parts 1 and 2](Elevation Mix) [RHYTHM KING LEFT 35CD]

  8. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

I cannot fathom why the 7"/single mix of Mantra isn't on any of the compilations! I was going to happily buy one of those just now, but not if they don't have that mix. I'm not interested in some 8.50 club mix.....argh.

    Great S'Express discography here;

    http://www.trustthedj.com/MarkMoore/news_article.php?news_id=1586&djid=1726

I shall drop you an IM re: the 7" Mix when I am home and have it in my hand. I think the compilations all use the 'album version', which is the same as the Parts 1 & 2 Mix.

Also, the 7" mix of Theme From S'Express isn't on many CDs. The 'Overture' is often used, which is the album version... essentially, the 7" is just an edit of this but there you go.

Too true. Still I cherish the CD I have, was so happy when I found it in a bin for like 2$.

  11. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

If we're asking (quite rightly) for an S'express reissue programme, then can I ask for a Baby Ford one too? Well, really just the first two albums, Ford Trax and Ooo The World Of Baby Ford. I seem to remember both CDs sounding quite rubbish compared to their vinyl counterparts.

Speaking of S'Express, this is one of my favorite tracks they ever did:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufj-Sh87234

It's not pop at all, totally underground psychedelic acid house/techno. Love it.

I first heard this acid line in this track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6YL3JjOyDY which was THE ultimate early 90's rave anthem in San Francisco. I wonder who sampled who?

  13. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

Cheers, yeah I thought that maybe the case but thought I would ask anyway. I only have the album on vinyl so thought with this special edition coming out I would treat myself.

I am not very up on record labels to be honest so don't know how Cherry Red get to release some albums that I consider to be quite well known.

So is Edsel part of Cherry Red? Forgive me if I sound a bit thick, like I said I have very limited knowledge of record labels these days.

  14. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

Edsel are part of Demon Music Group, which is purely a group of reissue labels specialising in buying the rights to previously released music that is out of print. They pay for the rights to re-release titles on their own label(s), from full albums to odd tracks for compilations, etc.

    http://www.demonmusicgroup.co.UK/home

Cherry Red were an independent label who signed acts like The Monochrome Set, Felt and Everything But The Girl in the wake of post-punk/new wave. Further into the 80s, they moved more towards the reissuing side of things and began to specialise in re-releasing out of print albums across their various imprints (RPM, Rev-Olva, Lemon, Cherry Pop, etc.).

    http://www.cherryred.co.UK/

Both labels have their pros and cons but have made some great stuff available once again at a decent price. Their output tends to consist of material that the original record label/copyright owner wouldn't bother re-releasing or shelling out for, quite often being of little interest with only a core/niche audience.

  15. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

Received it today.  I'm a bit p'd off that the Disco Mix of "I'm Not Scared" fades out at the end instead of having the same ending as my original CD single...

  16. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

Oh! Cunts! It should have a dead end with echoy 'I-I-I-I's.... why would they fade it? Time restraints? It should be 8:03. Might not buy this now.

  17. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

My copy arrived in the post. I never heard any other tracks on the album except the singles so this is the first time I have listened to it. On first listens I have to say its sounds like a album of filler. I never had high expectations in the first place so I am not to disappointed.

  18. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

Yep, that bit is faded out just as it starts. It;s not time constraints as there's plenty of space left on the CD. They've also screwed up the Dance Mix of "Baby Baby" by, erm, not including it at all and just repeating the album version where it should be! Shoddy.

  19. Re: The 80s CD reissue thread! (incl. Cherry Pop, Lemon, Edsel etc)

I find it staggering, and unacceptable, that these kind of half-arsed, erroneous reissues get through quality control...someone at the label must have checked, surely?!

    EG.

Email them. Maybe if enough people shout out, something will get done about it?
