I had no idea Died In Your Eyes was a cover either. Then again I only really know Kristinia DeBarge from PJ00s dd

You're welcome. (The OG stan right here dd)

Here Standing is just a very run of the mill ballad, but Mollie sounds absolutely angelic on it.

I stanned Kristinia DeBarge’s album when it came out, and I have to say I prefer her version of Died In Her Eyes. Although if they were going to cover any song from that album it should’ve been Sabotage.

Imagine! What a bop it would be!

The debut has two less eliminations than any other album, so here's another one.

Hazey Says | Much better than I remember it being. Here’s something funny: My comment in 2015 said something about the most memorable part being Mollie chiming in during the verses, telling you how average I thought the song was. Well, here I am in 2022 with a revelation that Mollie’s cute little inserts are definitely the best part of the song and act as little bonus points for a total bop on the whole. growth.gif (8)

This was a free download at Woolworths before the album was released.

There wasn’t much to say about this back in 2015, as most found it to be unremarkable or very average and for them that meant near or at the bottom of the list for this album. A lot of people mentioned Una’s middle eight, which may have been why it was a slow burner for those who said they were fans of the song.

Commentary

@Hazey's Mom (10) - This sounds like it would make a good Broadway dance number with the clapping beat.

@Sally_Harper (9) - What a song. I seem to remember it leaked before it was actually released, which was fun.

@daninternational (8) - Their first album seems to hang together quite well, until after this track.

@Phonetics Girl (8) - Now here's an offbeat track I can never figure out my thoughts about. Do I like/dislike it cause it reminds me of Xenomania? Could I hear Shaznay Lewis or Gabriella Cilmi killing this? Well, most of the time I just forget Set Me Off's existence. Maybe I'm missing out on this tough nut to crack.

@saviodxl (7.9) - Although this is a very decent pop effort, it doesn't fit its place on the album in my opinion. It has a very B-side vibe.

@louciano (7.5) - This is one of those songs that sounds really good whilst playing in the background but sounds a lot worse when you're truly listening to it.

@Shockbox (7) - This was a free song from Woolworths or something wasn't it? I can remember being like if this is what a free song sounds like, this album is gonna be amazing!

@Ezz (7) - The verses are very reminiscent of Up.

Interesting to see it described as a song that's great in the background but not so much when you actually listen to it with focus. That's actually my thoughts on many pop songs, but I think it was reverse here, since it only stood out to me when I really sat down and picked it apart. Also, I don't remember exactly why my Mom said it sounded like a Broadway dance number, but she'll use any excuse to make something sound like a musical or something with big sing-along elements to it dd. I think the sentiment about Set Me Off is that the album falls apart afterwards with "Fall", "Vulnerable", "Why Me, Why Now", and "Just Can't Get Enough". The first and last song on that list are still hanging on though. In 2015, it was "Just Can't Get Enough" at #50, this at #49, and "Fall" at #48, so we'll see what that means for the 2022 edition.

Shoutout Queen

Surprisingly, my comment about Mollie is her only shoutout for this song, which doesn't make sense since she's adorable on it. Una actually takes it with a couple shoutouts about her middle eight.

After the long break, the B-Sides get another cut at #42 and we'll be one song away from a Top 40.

Well "Crashing Down" was long gone by now in 2015 (#55), but it will remain and instead our B-Side leaving is...

Hazey Says | The verses have this deep, dark electro synth warbling underneath, which is where the song sounds interesting to my ears, Frankie sounds wonderful on the pre-chorus and then it all falls apart into some light and airy thing that deviates from the vibe beforehand. (6)

The B-Side to Forever is Over, this ballad was voted one of the top B-Sides in 2015, with twelve perfect 10 scores and an 11. (Sound familiar?) Many people thought it was better than a fair share of the main album and a few even thought it was single-worthy! While everyone’s vocals were appreciated, Mollie got the most individual accolades again for her work on the middle eight.

Commentary

@Sally_Harper (11) - A dreamy, Frankie-heavy, wistful slow song? How could I resist? Far and away my favourite Saturdays song. I still remember the first time I heard it. I was expecting very little because it was the B-side to Forever is Over, which at the time I really didn’t like, and at the end I was just sitting there with my mouth hanging open at how amazing it was. It’s everything I ever wanted from a Saturdays song. I just loved everything about it, and it’s never worn off, even slightly. Frankie obviously sounds beautiful, and it’s so great to have a song where she gets to shine. And it fits so many moods, especially in autumn and winter– am I a bit sad over somebody I should have got over ages ago? I’ll listen to this. Is it cold and rainy outside? I’ll listen to this. Do I miss the Sats? I’ll listen to this. Do I miss hearing Frankie, specifically? I’ll listen to this. Do I want to feel vaguely wistful for no real reason and imagine myself in a music video? I’ll listen to this. Am I conscious and in the mood to listen to music? I’ll listen to this. Is there a Y in the day? I’ll listen to this. You get the idea. They’ve just never topped this song for me.

@Shockbox (10) - Frankie sounds so good on this.

@Hazey's Mom (9) - The vocals are excellent!

@Phonetics Girl (8.5) - Saccharine 80s moment that's certainly among their better b-sides. I just expected something else from the chorus.

@Scaper (8.5) - More proof that Frankie could more than carry a song.

@louciano (6) - It's a nice song... cannot bring myself to give it anything higher than a six though.

@Ezz (5.5) - Poor Frankie, but this might have been better with a more normal vocal distribution…

@daninternational (1) - Sickly and saccharine.

Now, before the stans come with pitchforks, this ends up going out at about the same spot it did in the last rate and had a very similar large spread between high and low scorers. I guess you're either here for this kind of ballad or not, and you're either here for a Frankie-dominated vocal or not. We all know the opinion on her voice divides the congregation.

I' excited to say that even though Mollie had 3-to-2 lead coming out of 2015, the 4 shoutouts Frankie earned in this rate alone give her the runaway victory! Only her 6th so far, so we're all proud to see her get a moment!

The last song to not make the Top 40 comes from an early album.

Set Me Off should have made it further than what it has, it’s easily one of the best album tracks from their first few albums. The vocals in the verses always remind of the verses in:

I really, really dislike I Can’t Wait so I’m glad to see the back of it, one of only two ‘1’s’ that I gave out across the rate. Shocked so many people seem to love it, divisive indeed.

Also, I didn't realise my unhinged commentary was so long. Oops.

Not unhinged, this in particular is gospel for many of us and our favorite songs, just change out the band/artist/singer and apply:

"And it fits so many moods, especially in autumn and winter– am I a bit sad over somebody I should have got over ages ago? I’ll listen to this. Is it cold and rainy outside? I’ll listen to this. Do I miss the Sats? I’ll listen to this. Do I miss hearing Frankie, specifically? I’ll listen to this. Do I want to feel vaguely wistful for no real reason and imagine myself in a music video? I’ll listen to this. Am I conscious and in the mood to listen to music? I’ll listen to this. Is there a Y in the day? I’ll listen to this."

Haha no need to apologise, I think the way a single song can get such different reactions is what makes rates so much fun!
Sorry @Sally_Harper this was the lowest score I gave in my whole ballot.

I think the dark promise of the verses going into that sweetness and light chorus is what caused the whiplash for me
Well yes I LOVE both chorus and verse elements of the song and it would have been ideal if the verses had a dark punching chorus. And the chorus had some sultry cooing verses + middle 8.
But again all bits of it are 10 worthy.

Some people want more of a Wordshaker cull, so here's the next one after losing "Here Standing" at #45.

Just missing a Top 40 after just making the Top 40 last time.

Hazey Says | I was a bit hard on the lyrics before, but maybe I’ve lightened up a bit. It’s a cute song, but the opening part that all the Mollie stans praise still doesn’t do it for me and for the most part nothing exciting happens sonically beyond the “open up the damn door” bit. (I always picture Rochelle ready to kick it in) Overall though, it’s average at best. (6)

This Wordshaker track got a lot of love from the voters in the last rate because they could relate to the storytelling of the song and were all about Mollie’s opening verse. Suddenly Mollie is stringing together fan favorites left and right! Some were not here for how cheesy and/or boring it could be seen as.

Commentary

@Hazey's Mom (9.5) - Wonderful chorus and the song is so upbeat and boppy.

@louciano (9.5) - It has really risen up in my ranks recently, but God the lyrics really make it! I didn't expect a song about being locked out to sound so fun and make me want to experience being locked out with them.

@Ezz (8.75) - Love this post night out track! I'm sure I played this to my poor housemate as an apology several times...

@Shockbox (8) -
This is cute, but it screams left over from other more successful acts.

@Phonetics Girl (8) - Used to be a bit obsessed with this one but damn, they're describing such an abusive dynamic, no? I think I'll let this song sit back forgotten.

@saviodxl (7) - This is on the verge of being considered kidzbop.

@daninternational (6.5) - Feels a bit S Club Junior.

@Sally_Harper (6) - This song is difficult, because it’s a bop on the surface but I really hate the lyrics.

Some people seem to still be having fun with the lyrics, but I think the undertone is that maybe others have kind of 'grown out' of the song's message. I say that fully knowing my Mom (66) loved it on arrival.

Mollie and Rochelle get this. It would've been Mollie by one, but I'm counting my mention of Rochelle because I hear her the most in that "open up the damn door" part I love.

When we break into the Top 40, it will start with a song from a later album.
