The Saturdays

Just to clarify, I stated that I wasn’t a fan of the song, but that I was sure there were fans of it. Not everybody has to agree on whether it is good or not, but nobodies opinion is greater than another.

For me, it just wasn’t what I wanted or needed from the Saturdays brand, especially when they delivered such a strong start.

In regards to the notion that just because it got to number 2 is must be a good song, doesn’t hold up.

Many songs in the history of the charts have charted at number one or two but doesn’t mean they are great. This is just an indication, just like many songs that reach the top spot. that they could have been at their peak, that it was heavily promoted, sales may have been achieved through continuous in-store signings, releasing multiple formats or that the song connected with the general public at that time.

Yet, coming back to the song in hand, I don’t ever feel it’s one that people cite as a top Saturdays song, one that is played in radio or in public or a song that is widely remembered by the public, that title often goes to ‘Higher’, ‘What about Us’ or ‘Ego’.

I love 'Forever Is Over'. Great vocals.
I do, too. I think it is great!

When I first saw the video, I thought there was a lineup change and because I didn't recognize Frankie with long hair. Haha.

I also have a Mandela Effect with this song, because I remember the end of Una's Middle 8, she sang "cause your after life" ... Then in 2023, I went on a Saturdays binge and I was like ... How did the words change to "cause your out of my life"? ... I could have sworn it was different. Does anyone else remember it having different lyrics?

I’ve always enjoyed Forever Is Over also, Especially the Buzz Junkies Remix. I think its much more enjoyable than the Radio Edit which i do like but have always felt it really lacking in something.

When she was on her ‘A-Game’, Frankie’s delivery and ad-libs are always on point and such a highlight. Not only does she compliment the tone of Vanessa and Rochelle, but her ability to harmonise with the girls is amazing to listen to and she is really is a great little pop star! So many great songs that she brings such warmth to the powerhouse delivery of the other girls!

THIS makes me so proud to be Scottish!

Also, I still don’t understand the Scottish chart? Like, is there a Welsh one or are we just special? It always confuses me dd!
By then the Scottish singles chart was based on physical sales, so that explains why it has a relatively impressive looking peak of #2. Work actually reached #1 in the UK physical sales chart!

There are (or were?) Welsh charts but unlike the Scottish charts they weren’t published by the Official Charts Company for some reason.

Work had already been announced as a single before Just Can’t Get Enough- they’d even done some performances for it

And I imagine the tour branding had all been planned and designed so I can understand them going ahead and still releasing it.

As for Forever Is Over, one of two things likely happened. Either James Bourne agreed to give them the song as long as it was a single (this is sometimes a stipulation) or because they knew Kelly Clarkson was bidding for it - they’d deemed it strong enough.

Either way, it went in at #2 and until What About Us it was their highest charting non-charity single
I can’t believe over 15 (!) years later I’ve just discovered James Bourne was such a prolific songwriter for other acts.

As I said in my post above, when Frankie is on point, she literally serves and ‘I Can’t Wait’ is a perfect example of what is literally a perfect pop song.

Why this was relegated to a b-side, along with ‘Flashback’, ‘Not That Kinda Girl’ and ‘Ladykiller’ is an absolute joke.

‘I Can’t Wait’ is so lush in its ethereal, meloncholic way, that is should have been both album and single worthy. It’s a Biff Stannard masterpiece that deserves recognition in their albums track discography!
