I just rewatched Scream 3 for the anniversary and as always I enjoyed it. Something new I noticed was how progressively twisted Emily Mortimer’s performance became as they started to tease the killer reveal. I also loved when Kincaid showed up. Patrick Dempsey did a great job of making us suspicious of him in that scene. I do wish Angelina had been made the second killer because there were things that Roman shouldn’t have been able to do with the time table. I understand why they went with Roman solo though, to focus in on the personal aspect of the reveal.
Of course the biggest downfall to this film is the lack of gore, but I do think they made up for it with clever set pieces and elaborate, suspenseful sequences. But something like Sarah Darling’s death could’ve been an absolute classic if they could’ve gone a step further and add some gore to that scene. The blood across her face was just awful and the overall sequence deserved better.
