The Scream Franchise

“You live here with her?!” is better than a solid 90% of what she does in 4.
Really? Compared to
“…you better put a moustache on, because you sound ridiculous”
(To “I love you”) “Very good”
“Where is this circle jerk going on?”
“Go ahead if you have the guts”?
Gale Weathers-Riley feels a lot like Scream 2 Gale, only funnier.

“That would explain the constant headaches… And to be played by an actress with such depth and range!” from 3 always makes me chuckle as well.

I didn’t realise how disliked Scream 4 was here. I really loved it , and much prefer it to 3 and 5. Anyone else?

I rewatched 1-5 prior to going to the cinema to watch 6, and honestly I forgot how abysmal Scream 3 is ddd.
In general I feel like people either love or hate Scream 3 and 4. It shocks me on Twitter how both films are equally the most loved and hated prior to 6. Both are constantly trending and seem to get the most attention from fans there.

My bigger problem with 4 is that it is *so* close to being great. I feel like the majority of the issues I had with it could’ve been resolved by including the alternate opening and some of the deleted scenes which would’ve helped flesh some of the smaller characters out and made their deaths more impactful, especially Olivia and the opening kills.

This.

Had we ever got a directors cut or something, I think they could have sorted the issues out easily enough simply by adding back in scenes or switching them and it would be top of a lot of people's rankings.

For me, it's probably

Scream 2 (I love 'Scream' but Gale's iconic chase scene pushes this into first place. Plus I love Sarah Michelle Gellar)
Scream
Scream 4 (Kirby! She made this and also Jill going crazy at the end is one of the best killer reveals after the original)
Scream 6 (much better than 5 but still with it's flaws)
Scream 5
Scream 3 (corny/cheesy but still a 7/10)

Scream has no bad entries but 4 will never ever be worse than 3 no matter how "camp" and ironic the stanning for the latter gets. The tone is way too jovial and ~silly~ and Gale / Dewey do their best to carry it but it doesn't quite work. Still a 8/10, at least.
I mean, you do you, but for all its faults at least Scream 3 feels like a Scream film. A bombastic, operatic, hysterical trilogy ender that has a clear identity, and a definitive end. 4 in comparison feels listless and lifeless, only existing to bring characters back that it’s never quite sure what to do with.

The OG 3 feel thinly drawn, and it’s never as funny or self aware as it is clearly desperate to be.

Also Gale’s meta line in 4 always sticks out like a sore thumb to me, having written books about the killings there’s zero way she wouldn’t have been aware of the concept.

Not all stanning of 3 is ironic.

Is it fair to say sexism & racism were the reasons why Melissa was poorly received when Jenna & Jasmin are both women of color as well and were very highly praised? Like, it obviously was due to her acting...

Yeah that tweet is so irritating. Someone else pointed that out to him and the way he went "yeah but" and justified why it was still racism is even more annoying.

It's not even complicated. She just didn't act well in 5. The dialogue was also pretty rotten. Everything worked better in 6. She played a more fleshed out character in a more convincing way. That's it.

I feel like even though her wooden performance was pointed out a lot; she hardly received much hate? Not when you compare her to a lot of other actresses.

(I shared for the numbers significance more than anything by the way)

I still think there's an undertone of colorism with how Mindy was treated vs. Tara. Both were well-acted, but Mindy being more brown than Tara definitely is a factor in how she's received, especially on Reddit.

Yeah I'm the first one to call out racism but in the case of 5 nobody had a problem with Jenna. It was a bit of a shaky performance is all. In her defense some of the writing could have helped her a bit. "Help! Someone tried to kill me in the break room!" Meryl Streep would have a rough time. I am so happy that she is getting her flowers for 6. She was great.
