Scream was the franchise with the most consistency of them all (not just in horror, in cinema full stop) - I really adore all 6 films to varying degrees. There’s been no Rocky V or Alien vs Predator to sully my enjoyment.
To think that this whole real-life disgrace is the kind of shit that a Scream film would typically reference in a cutting line or two because it knew us and made clear that it agreed with us and despised prejudice and unfairness and… that discrimination and throwaway punchline to demonstrate that we’re better than that?
It is now Scream itself.
Shame on them…
(by the way, Neve should get paid whatever she fights for and feels she deserves - that her salary is ridiculous compared to ours is a moot point and should never be a baton to strike her with - good for her and for all actresses who fight to get paid properly in that industry - but her failure to take a stand against the injustice encountered by Melissa? Actually unforgivable… I’ll be deeply interested to see what the rest of the Scream 7 cast say about the situation when they start to do interviews… I mean, if you can strong-arm a desperate studio to give you the payday you want and should have… you can also freely say that Melissa is an integral part of the franchise and should be there and that, if it was your decision WHICH IT IS NOT then you’d have her right there next to you… they’re not going to fire YOU - especially when no other potential lead would be going within a mile of that movie after you’d said it)
Apologies for the rant, I just get deeply disappointed and frustrated by the whole situation.

She was the co-lead in the original script. She was going to be paid well regardless, after what happened last time.

But that would likely still have been more than the other co lead, Melissa, would have gotten.
Of course it would be. She’s the face of the franchise and it would’ve been her sixth film. But also, everybody would’ve been entitled to pay raises because they would’ve all had to re-negotiate their contracts.

If Neve was a decent person she’d make sure that Melissa got the same pay as a co lead. Just because Neve is the face doesn’t mean she deserves more money than someone who is not only the new face of the franchise but also who gets as much screen time.
But no, it’s all about looking out for number one and screw everyone else.
Now she’s responsible for how much Melissa gets paid? It’s always something negative here.
That is a completely different issue and doesn’t make Neve a bad person for not doing something that is rarely done in Hollywood.

Neve isn’t stupid, she’d know that getting more money for her likely meant less for others.
She showed that this was all about money to her, she didn’t make any attempt to help out Melissa or stand up for her even after Melissa came to bat for her in the past, and that does make her a bad person
You’re making it a Neve issue but you know she has no control over anybody else’s pay. She’s also not the only one who is going to be paid more due to their overall success and value to the franchise and box office (Courteney and David spring to mind).
Also, you don’t know what she did for Melissa behind the scenes. She hasn’t spoken on it and neither has Melissa. I’m sure at some point it will come up when doing press for the film but until then it’s all speculation.

Melissa has literally said she hasn’t heard a peep from Neve. That says it all. If Neve had done anything for her then she’d have been in contact.
I do wonder what the plan is in dealing with Jenna and Melissa's absence in Scream 7. Will they just not mention them at all? Will we get a brief "they're staying out of it, they deserve their happy endings" throwaway line? What about Chad, Mindy and Kirby. Based on the 'strength' of the last few screenplays I don't feel confident it'll be written in a respectful or intelligent way.
I would imagine yes and also desperation/no choice from Spyglass.
Melissa and Jenna were contracted for two films, but they were “only” paid in the six figure range for each.
Neve got $4-5m for Scream 3 and $4-5m for Scream 4. Hollywood has changed though.
She’s not getting more money because they respect her and it’s so disingenuous for Neve to pretend otherwise and paint this as a win for women in the industry. They don’t suddenly care about pay discrepancy and they don’t give a shit about her.

It's the constant sucking up to Spyglass that really exposes her for me. She has now referred to how "respectful" they've been with her multiple times, when anyone with a functioning brain has witnessed them being rotten to the core and the complete opposite of that with Melissa. Why does she keep making a point of saying that? It's just total arrogance and a middle finger to Melissa.

Neve does have some control though. She could tell Spyglass to get stuffed and yet here we are. And the only reason she’s getting paid what she thinks is fair is because Melissa and Jenna aren’t in this movie. If she stood up to them and demanded Melissa be in it, she’d had to settle for less money I bet.
Love Scream 1-6 and I will always be happy we have those movies. But Scream 7 and anyone that attaches themselves to it can get in the bin.

I just want to repeat that money is not the stick to beat Neve with here - if she demanded Melissa was in the film, the whole project would likely still be on hold (which would be for the best but anyway…)
The point here is that she could have negotiated, taken the role AND privately and publicly supported Melissa. She’d have gotten away with the public support because the studio is desperate and she has the power in this situation. She had nothing whatsoever stopping her from offering private support. She has done neither - THAT is the issue and speaks volumes about her.
Sidney should be the opening kill.
