The Scream Franchise

They never said anything other than her husband's first name, so I'd say it's safe to assume this is the same husband.
Yeh but they’re trying to get away with “it was all internet speculation” in the announcement article.

But we know it was a deliberate Easter egg in Scream 5, for fans.

Squandered.

Re-watching 6, I have a percolating theory that Danny/Cute Guy was the 4th killer to be ported into the next film to continue targeting the sisters.

He mutters 'family is hard' near the start and could easily have stood-in for any of the known killers during scenes when it's 'unlikely' they could have teleported in and out of the murder scene with so little time.

Plus: Brackett is a deep cut of a character name and why did he have Tara, Chad, and Mindy's numbers to text them? (Unless it was a nearest-device drop thing).

But of course, Shiteglass have done what they've done so the character will probably be forgotten along with Joel, Kincaid's detective partner, and the sorority sisters.

I don't know. I'm sort of glad Danny just ended up being a decent guy.

I always felt that in 4, with that scene between Judy and Sidney on the landing that they were giving us a hint she might be involved in some way. I wonder if things hadn't changed last minute (and they hadn't changed the ending) if Judy would have been revealed in 5 as one of the hidden killers or mastermind behind it in some way.

Anyway, I digress.

What we got in 5, in terms of killers was decent but nothing amazing. In 6 it was just a mess. 6 is actually a hard one to rewatch once you know who the killers are because they're all just so beige and add nothing pre being revealed as killers and then once they are just go so over-the-top it's ridiculous.

And, as mentioned before, in 6 it's so bizarre how people are stabbed like 7 times and get up and run around as if it's nothing. Completely taking you out of any kind of plausibility. I mean, if Chad can survive that then really Maureen from Scream 2 should have been doing a lap dance up on the cinema screen not dying. What a whimp. And CiCi would still be alive too, just limping a bit. Kate would have got up from that knife through the letter box and just dusted herself off.

I would really love for them to bring someone back as a killer who previously was deemed a good guy or, at least, do what they should have done with Judy and had her in a few movies before revealing she was lurking in the background all the time orchestrating stuff. I don't mean Stu necessarily but they could easily bring back someone like Angelina from 3 (lame death, could easily have been faked) and reveal she's been involved in future killings ever since. I mean she was meant to be a killer in the original script. Or give Martha Meeks a more fleshed-out role.

In the original script with Melissa, it was rumoured that Ghostface was going to be…

Stu’s sister and Sam & Tara’s mum lol.

Putting this in a spoiler tag in case they still run with Stu’s sis as Ghostface.

This would have been fun and camp as hell if two great actresses had been cast. We are long overdo for two female killers.

To me that scene always seemed like a red herring easter egg for any fans who knew about Angelina's original storyline for Scream 3. I know with it returning to Woodsboro that there would be a high chance of meeting somebody who Sidney went to school with, but I definitely wrote her off as a killer as soon as that scene happened.

(Unless it was a nearest-device drop thing).
That's what I assumed it was, an image drop.

They’re either:

A - ruining a flashback surprise (maybe of Roman, Billy & Stu plotting to get Maureen?)
B - undoing 30 years of Scream 1.

It is the first time I’ve seen Scream 7 trending since it started and the tweets have hundreds of thousands of likes. But meh.

The most likely theory I've heard is that it is AI being used to torment the characters and also make it more difficult to tell who is actually doing the Ghostface killings. I think that is why they aren't keeping it quiet because it'll likely be something that is featured in the trailers.
