THE SEVENTH PJ GRAMMY AWARDS Welcome to the Seventh Edition PJ Grammy Awards! With the real, flop Grammys delayed indefinitely, it's time to serve justice to the best music from 2021 once again ourselves. I am returning to host the extravaganza, along with @BubblegumBoy! With the PJ Readers' Poll and BPG 2021 [don't forget to send your votes to @aux!] fresh in our minds, let's continue to celebrate the best of the best. Plus, as this is our favorite award show of the season, it's only better that Popjustice has our own version, right? Rules: All submissions must have been released between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021. Some exceptions will be made for works released after Oct. 1, 2020, depending on their PJ and cultural impact on 2021. Submit 5-8 entries in the General Field categories (Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year). These categories are mandatory. Submit 3-5 songs in the rest of the categories. These categories are all optional, but we highly recommend sending in nominations to break ties and diversify these noms. All 2021 Grammy Submissions are valid for the PJ Grammys, except in categories that won't be represented, and those firmly out of the new eligibility period. Albums and songs cannot go genre-hopping. Other than General Field, a song or album can only be submitted in one genre. Choose carefully. The top 10 nominees in General Field and Top 5 nominees in the other categories will be nominated for the final ballot. Note that the General Field's noms have been expanded to reflect the change in the upcoming Grammys. Categories: Record of the Year Song of the Year Album of the Year Best New Artist Best Pop Solo Performance Best Pop Duo/Group Performance Best Pop Vocal Album Best Progressive R&B/R&B Album Best Dance Album Best Dance Recording Best Rap Performance Best R&B Performance Best Rap Album Best Alternative Album Best Alternative Song Best Music Video Producer of the Year, Non-Classical Best Country Album Best Country Song You have just over three weeks before nominations are due January 30th, 11:59 PM EST! I think these tags might not have worked, I just got a notification that there was a new post in the thread, not that I'd been tagged.
Mess lemme try again xxx @BubblegumBoy[/USER] has asked me to do a tagging spree for everyone who participated last year; please come back xx THE PJ ACADEMY @2014 @Adam @aux @boombazookajoe @BubblegumBoy @CorgiCorgiCorgi @Cotton Park @Dangerous Maknae @evilsin @GimmeWork @Island @londonrain @Lost In Japan. @lushLuck @Mirwais Ahmadzaï @Music Is Death @ohnostalgia @Phonetics Girl @Remorque @Sail On @saviodxl @slaybellz @Sprockrooster @soratami @thommyh @Trouble in Paradise @ufint @Verandi
I kinda forget how this works, what do you mean by pick 5-8 or 3-5 entries? Like we can choose that many songs/albums per category? Also how are the nominations decided? Are we picking from a fixed list or we can choose anything? And are EPs allowed in album categories?
So you can submit 5-8 nominations for these categories (Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year) which are mandatory and the rest of the optional categories are 3-5 nominations. Nominations are completely your own choosing. The list is just our ideas we put together. Feel free to post FYCs on here! As for EPs I'm going to say yes but I'll get @Sail On to clarify.
Ok thanks! That's a very generous amount of nominations. I've got a lot of thinking to do. If we can't think of that many noms for some categories we can just pick one right? Like 5 or 3 is not the minimum?

@Sail On @BubblegumBoy I have a few questions regarding category placements. Is Planet Her in Pop or Rap? Same goes with Montero. Is PinkPantheress in Pop or Dance? Is Halsey's album going to be in Pop here or in Alternative?
Thank you @2014 for the tagging help! We'd prefer you submit at least 5 for General Field and 3 for the rest but I'll be happy for any noms getting down to the more niche categories. Also, yes, feel free to submit EPs for album categories! I remember Lil Nas X's first EP got nominated for AOTY a few years ago, anyway.
Thanks for pointing these out. Though MONTERO and Planet Her are great pop records, let's make the Rap categories more competitive and count them there. Elsewhere, we'll count PinkPantheress in Pop and Halsey in Alternative. I've made adjustments in post 2! I'll go along now and begin adding the FYCs to Post 2, too.
Allow me to sprinkle in my own two favorite FYCs before I get any ballots submitted and then I'll be properly impartial. Billie Eilish AOTY - Happier Than Ever ROTY / Best Pop Solo Performance - Happier Than Ever SOTY - Male Fantasy The maturation of Billie Eilish develops throughout Happier Than Ever, the star’s sophomore effort released on the heels of her AOTY trophy for her 2019 iconoclastic debut. It’s a rewarding reminder that only age can illicit true wisdom (“Getting Older”), unfettered confidence (“Billie Bossa Nova”), doe-eyed romance (“Halley’s Comet”), and chilling heartache (“Male Fantasy”). Sonically, Billie hones in on her signature sound while still finding room to surprise the listener. Whether it be the spoken-word sensuality manifesto “Not My Responsibility” that could be lifted from Madonna’s 1992 Erotica, the trip-hop jazz switch-up in “my future,” or the title track’s ukulele lullaby switch to arena anthem kiss-off, Billie and producer-brother Finneas understand the importance of keeping fans on their toes. And don’t worry, it’s not all a serious affair either. The same wink-and-nudge artist behind the “duh!” punchline delivers the devilishly bonkers “Oxytocin,” which, yes, I can confirm does indeed pop off as much as you’d expect live. Lucy Dacus AOTY / Best Alternative Album - Home Video Best Alternative Song - VBS Lucy demonstrates how to properly indulge in nostalgia, swimming through old memories, both happy and heavy, with such an authoritative, engaging perspective that makes even the best memoirists jealous. The electric rock from Historian is a bit more accessible after her stint in boygenius (with Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker), and the result is gorgeous melodies, sharp lyricism, and catchy anthems about how much youth informs adulthood. Home Video really marks the most appropriate title, too, for its tracks all are cinematic. Whether it's the coming-of-age "Hot & Heavy," the hypnotic "Cartwheel," or the closing credits "Triple Dog Dare," Dacus' soundtrack will stop you in your tracks while you'll in turn begin to romanticize your own past without fear or guilt, and hopefully with a good sense of humor.
