The Sims

Re: The Sims 3

I played for 9 hours today! The woman was also a private investigator, so she spent most of time inbetween despising her only child and running out on funerals breaking into people's homes and blackmailing for money.

I think The Sims deserves its own thread really. Similar to say..Pokémon it doesn't really fit in with typical video game discussion.

I checked my last saved game and it appears I made the characters from Lost, I vaguely recall trying to get Claire pregnant. I think I stopped when there was a fire and I just couldn't deal with all the stuff it destroyed. Mess.

I agree - The Sims as it's own game series is too big for the regular video games thread.

With that said, I haven't played it since the The Sims 1. I remember being obsessed with it when it came out in 2000 and downloading any old crappy mod that was on the web. And being active on the Maxis website. I'm afraid to get into the later series because at 28 being obsessed with The Sims is kind of creepy and sad.

Not that it wasn't at 16, but at least we could write that off as a "phase".

Re: The Sims 3

I NEVER get big fires. Never. It's depressing when I want to kill a few sims off.

Re: The Sims 3

I tried to kill a pregnant woman and her two daughters the other day but they just WOULDN'T set alight!! It was super annoying.

Re: The Sims 3

I just had to buy The Sims 2 because my laptop isn't good enough for The Sims 3 - boooo!!!!

Given that I've only ever had the original game + expansions, it'll probably seem amazing.

Does anyone happen to remember how the Sims saves screenshots? Are they JPGs? And do they have some sort of standard file name?
(Going through 3 old hard disks to find them proves quite a hassle)

I think its JPEG! I'll remember to get some of my selfish law breaking investigator next time I'm on.

Re: The Sims 3

This is a really stupid question: If you install an expansion pack, do you play its contents through inserting the original Sims disc?

Re: The Sims 3

Nope, you have to use the disc of the latest expansion pack.

I love The Sims, I like to play it like a soap opera, spreading misery and despair through generations of families, and killing off anyone I don't find interesting. It's great fun, but big fires really are depressing, I start them to kill people and they inevitably either kill the wrong people or no one at all and I'm left with a big messy house full of Sims on the verge of mental breakdown.
