The Sims

That's the current word on the street, complete editions of both coming. I hope it's true.
This is literally all I care about. Bonus points if they're optimized for modern PCs and had some cleanups and fixes.

As much as I want the same for Sims 3, I think the design of how the worlds work will make it difficult. You'd have to make some pretty drastic changes. You get to your third generation and the game just grinds to a halt because it can't cope anymore.

Is there a reason why they'd do 1 and 2 but not 3 as well?
I don’t think we’re getting remasters as much as we’re getting 1 & 2 available to purchase. The main issues for 1 & 2 would be getting them to recognize modern hardware and that’s not too difficult. 2 may need some slight patching re: corruption but nothing too extreme. 3 needs quite a few fixes and it’s not something I foresee EA bothering to do.

I'm not fussed about Sims 1 at all but Sims 2 is iconic, I'd be so happy if I could play it again.

Would love to have Sims 3 but I feel like that's a bit too ambitious nn

Sims 1 and 2 work with a few DIY improvements to get it work on modern PCs. I don't think it would be that much work and especially with the power EA will have to go deeper into the code.

If they fix some bugs and add support for higher resolutions (HQ textures might be a stretch) that will be more than enough.

he/him
I definitely don't trust EA to chuck Sims 2 up on Steam without it having way more bugs dd. I feel like it could easily be a GTA Trilogy situation where they know they can bag some extra coin with the least amount of effort possible.

The vibe of Sims 1 is so different to 2-4 and is definitely my favourite tonally/stylistically, (most likely because I spent a large chunk of my early teens playing it) but the gameplay mechanics will feel very basic and stripped back compared to all of the objective improvements to the gameplay that followed.

I don't even need a remaster of the first 2 games, just make them available to buy and play on current systems in complete editions.

I've actually been avidly playing without much of a break ever since Horse Ranch came out. The main thing I want going forward is cars, please get on with it already! I'm also enjoying the new kits they are collaborating with content creators on now.

The Sims 1: Best character/tone/style
The Sims 2: The quintessential instalment
The Sims 3: The most comprehensive instalment
The Sims: 4

TS1 had such a startlingly strong POV for a launch game. The mechanics of the game were obviously so ground-breaking that it launched it to such stratospheric heights, but the feel of it is very much that of a quirky, kinda fucked-up little indie game. It's a perfect, odd little unison, and is still a hoot to play to this day - even with limited features.

It's ironic how Sims 1 has quite a few critiques of capitalism and American culture...yet the franchise ended up being like that. I wonder how Will Wright feels about the state of the Sims now.

Would 100% play Sims 2 again but having played 3 (very intermittently) for 15 years, I wonder how wild it would feel. I played it all the time when I was like 12 but remember being blown away by 3's improvements.

The Sims 1 soundtrack though, iconic
You better believe I got that shit pressed on vinyl

Isn’t Sims 3 basically held together with tape and prayers? I can totally see why they’re focused on 1 and 2. 3 would be far too much effort. The fact that 4 is similarly spaghetti coded because of the pivot away from online, and now they’ve decided to stick with it long term is a kii.

Pretty much. The bugs and performance issues after you get two generations in make it unplayable for me.
