The Sims

Isn’t Sims 3 basically held together with tape and prayers? I can totally see why they’re focused on 1 and 2. 3 would be far too much effort. The fact that 4 is similarly spaghetti coded because of the pivot away from online, and now they’ve decided to stick with it long term is a kii.
Yes nn but I think the spaghetti code of The Sims 4 is worse then 3. A lot of things physically can’t be added to the game because the coding is so terrible.

Can anyone recommend a decent laptop for Sims 4? That's the main reason I want it but I'll also be using it to just generally browse the web too. I'm assuming you wouldn't need a massively expensive gaming laptop for Sims 4, but I don't want a crappy one that will run it on the minimal settings either.

Basically, does anyone have any recommendations for a decent laptop that will easily run all The Sims 4 expansions and allow for mods?

Maybe check out the "Asus Vivobook" line? I use the Asus Vivobook Pro for gaming and i'm really happy with it. It could even run the newest Call Of Duty no problem, so i'm sure their non pro versions would be good for The Sims.

In all honesty though, The Sims 4 is made to run on the lowest tier systems, so you could really get anything. As long as it's not whatever the Windows equivalent of a Macbook Air is or those laptops that are really just tablets with a keyboard.

Pretty much. The bugs and performance issues after you get two generations in make it unplayable for me.
I love Sims 3, but I admit I only play it after adding mods to make it more playable.

I use these mods:

Nraas Overwatch - this mod will "clean up" the neighbourhood at 3am in-game time every day, and helps to remove accumulated junk around the world to help the game run smoother for longer (e.g. deleting unused cars left around by townies, turning off stereos and TVs, resets sims stuck in a "broken" interaction). Also recovers any "missing" sims that disappeared due to a bug.

Nraas ErrorTrap - this mod "traps" errors to stop the game from crashing and corrects data corruption that can make the game unplayable.

FPSLimiter (requires 3Booter) - this limits the game to 30 FPS. Normally it can go above 100+ which can fry your computer and is not necessary for playing the game. I think some modern video cards in computers can do this by themselves though, so the mod may not be necessary (e.g. the AMD Ryzen/AMD Radeon on my laptop can also do this I think).

I also use other mods from Nraas like MasterController and Traveler, but more so for gameplay style rather than fixing bugs (although Traveler can help with bugs relating to sims arriving in holiday worlds).

The Asus Vivobook ones actually look really good so I think that's a contender! Yeah that's what I thought, I want a semi-decent one but I don't need a top of the range gaming laptop nn; these ones look like they're quite versatile for everyday use and some gaming. Thank you!

I have several laptops on hand that could play the Sims 4 with ease: even got one with a discrete graphics card.

Aaaaand it costs $350 to ship things to Australia nvm <3
(Sorry.)

Aww thanks anyway!

I ended up going with this one after lots of research. It's an entry level gaming laptop but I think it will be perfectly fine for what I want it for.

No like Miss Nraas really is THAT girl. The one mod that allowed your Sims to get abortions at the hospital up to the third trimester — iconic.

Oh this is exciting. The vibe in Sims 4 was a bit off for me, I miss the quirkiness of 1 & 2 (especially 2) so will 100% be playing those if this is true. Praying for a Mac release.

I really have no interest in revisiting the first game, but a complete version of The Sims 2 would be fun. Wonder if there's any chance this is being released on consoles too? Probably not, but then again if they could make 4 work. Also wish we were getting 3, that's definitely the one I'd be more interested in revisiting, but oh well.

I already have The Sims 2 complete collection on EA App which I managed to grab when they were giving it out for free on Origin back in the day, but you have to go through so many hoops and mods to make it run properly so… properly optimised ‘remastered’ version of the whole collection for modern computers will be amazing.

As for The Sims 1, it’s not even available to purchase digitally anywhere to begin with and suffers even worse issues than The Sims 2 on modern PCs, and I think it’s also great in terms of classic game preservation. The entirety of The Sims 1 is really museum worthy, obviously in terms of pure gameplay it falls behind later entries but that eerie, quirky vibe and nostalgia of idyllic suburban Americana is just unmatched. Also the soundtrack alone is yet to be topped.

Sims 1 or 2 on Switch with a few more modern objects would be such a serve, especially after seeing how Rollercoaster Tycoon Classic got ported to Switch, and with the rumoured Switch 2 mouse joycons it would kinda be perfect. But it's EA so that will never happen in a million years dd.

It'd be incredible if there were some quality enhancements too, like new lighting and higher resolution textures, but I doubt that'll happen with EA's "this will do" approach - but even being able to run these game without needing to reconfigure different settings and install mods first will be welcome news.
