The Walking Dead

I caved and bought it, and just got through the first episode. Unsure how I feel at the moment... on the one hand it's visually fantastic, with great make-up and liberal helpings of gore, but on the other hand the acting was impossibly hammy. I think part of that was the fact that the dialogue was very comic book, with quite frustrating leaps in conclusion and understanding between characters. If they're going down this route, I'd actually just rather they dropped some of the backstory and character development stuff and concentrated on the action. Maybe unsurprising, but it never hurts to adapt material properly. I don't know though, maybe I'm being harsh because I've had a bit of a Mad Men/The Good Wife/The Killing binge and the acting in all three is fantastic.

I'm hoping it gets better, as there's a hell of a lot of promise there.

Dead heads up! Season 2 starts 16th October in the US and 21st October in the UK. Yay!

Yay! I'd heard about the US date (my birthday!) and was worrying there'd be too long a wait until our airdate but only five days is wicked! Can't wait.

I wonder how far they'll actually have the guts (pardon the pun) to go? They've already sort of missed out one major plot point that had happened in the comic by now (I won't say what, as it may still happen). And there's a major one coming too.

The gore on last night's episode was out of control.

I was annoyed by the son though and it was quite apparant he would get wounded/die and Sophia would live from the get-go.
I also found it very unbelievable he could stay longer while his mom went back to camp. It's the most irresponsible thing ever.

So good that its back, I thought the son was annoying too and I'm kinda hoping they don't let him getting shot be resolved easily & deal with it in a realistic fashion.

Two episodes in, and it's been renewed for a third season. Yay!

(Desperately avoiding the rest of the posts in this thread as I haven't seen the first one yet!)

The second episode was good but went down a bit in quality, it was a bit too slow. Glad its been renewed already though thats great news.

You've read my mind. It was a little bit 'blah' until the last couple of minutes. That was so e good action/suspension.

Episode 4 was so dull but Episode 5 seems to be back on track and was more interesting.

Thus far this is suffering the second season slump badly, the first wasn't perfect but this season is all over the place thus far.

Only up to episode 4 here, but yes, it's shuffling along at the pace of a zombie, funnily enough. I know they have to deal with the human aspect of things but it shouldn't really be the focus. Having read the comics, I know the sorts of things that are coming up, and I wonder how much they're going to delve into them.

Episode 5 was a drastic improvement on last weeks at least, one thing I am enjoying a lot about this season is the flashbacks, the opening few minutes were great in particular.

There's got to be something up with this family. I'd like more frequent cliff-hangers, but otherwise it's going fairly well.

I don't get how they are relatively safe in the farm, and how have this family managed to protect themselves without guns? Also, wouldn't you just try and take everything from the chemist instead of going back?

Agreed on all counts. I had found the first few episodes tedious and was considering giving up, but that was a real step in the right direction.
