Is Mike White really going there?
Well we all know what you're referring to. Seems the actor in questioned defended the discourse though, saying he is just trying to be a good influence to his Brother. It's an extremely... strange move for a story arch though, and i wonder what mike white plans on doing with this overall. Loved the episode, and can't wait for the rest of the series, but wonder how long they can keep making this show with the same formula.

I absolutely loved the first episode!

Mike White truly is a genius. I love how elegantly they introduced the characters. You could get the idea of who they are and what they're about.

Also, kudos for casting an actress with a Mancunian accent (watch her be the shooter!). I pray for a day when we see a Geordie play in an American TV show.

And, most importantly, how GORGEOUS is Belinda's son?!

This actually went through my mind as well... Would be very on brand for this show dd.

I found the first episode to be a slow burn and am always a bit put off/triggered by shooting scenes but I'm curious to see how this all unfolds and I think it's probably something ridiculous like this.

It's definitely... weird but also feels rather blatant when Mike White doesn't often write things to be that way. The weirdness with the siblings is definitely... something though. I feel like Lochlan is gay and there's a weird "older brother trying to be a 'good' influence" and such.

It seems like a great start and I'm really curious to see where this whole season goes.

I think the siblings just have no boundaries as they kept getting about each others personal business but I don't think they're getting into... incestuous stuff. It's just too much and I don't see the point narratively other than creating controversy.

I hope so, even for White Lotus, it feels a little too sordid and I'm kinda tired of LGBTQ+ characters in television being associated with sexual deviancy and morally corrupt behavior especially in today's climate. We already get enough of that from Ryan Murphy shows.

My guess is that the farthest they'd push it is the two brothers having a threesome with a girl, with the older brother demonstrating how it's done, but not actually doing anything with each other.

The step bro/step sis incestuous fantasy stuff is everywhere and it always gives me the ick, even as a joke or a meme. As you said, Ryan Murphy is also guilty of that, especially in the Menendez show but I hope Mike White is smarter than to pander to that. The scene of the brother being exhibitionist made me uncomfortable but I choose to read it as some sort of alpha/asserting dominance type of ritual than erotic. I don't know.

ddd I read it more as Saxon being straight toxic masculinity personified. Aggressive and hypersexual, only sees life as a game to win, and boxes people into skewed sex hierarchies.

The brother is just giving repressed gay seeing dick for the first time.
Yeah thusfar (apart from everything about the show always feeling a bit off because you know things will escalate one way or another) I didn't get much more from it than the older brother being what I imagine straight guys are like together, and the younger being a bit awkward about it. Twist might as well be that the older one is overshouting and trying to prove how straight he is from the moment he arrived.

Wait: I just read there's a body floating in the opening scene.. I thought it was a crocodile swimming towards the son?
