The Winner's Gonna Take It All: The final...

Rock Me placing higher Gonna Sing You My Love Song is criminal.

Gonna Sing... is my first real loss of the rate. You tasteless beasts.

People are seriously saying Waterloo should be anything other than top five?

'...Wishing... Hoping... Chasing shadows... Did I see your face somewhere in the crowd?'
- Agnetha Fältskog in Disillusion -

I know it's not an ABBA cover, but I hope you see my reasoning for using it?

Average: 6.0109
Highest score: 1 *
10.0 - @Angeleyes
Lowest score: 2 * 2.00 - @bichard @VivaForever
My score: 7.00

Ring Ring only has one song left in the rate in the form of its title track, as Disillusion leaves us at #75. It's notable for being the only track in ABBA's repertoire to be written by one of the girls as Agnetha is credited as the writer, together with Björn. Although she had written a lot of songs during her early career, she always reasoned that she thought her songwriting wasn't really fit for the ABBA sound.

Disillusion was first released in 1973 as the third song on Ring Ring, but was eventually re-recorded in Swedish, called Mina ögon, to be included on Agnetha's 1975 solo album Elva kvinnor i ett hus.

It's the first Agnetha lead to leave us and although it's a nice enough tune with some beautiful vocals and simple instrumentation, I very much prefer Mina ögon to this one. The production on that one is quite a bit fuller sounding.

Although this only received a single 10, it didn't receive any zeroes. A lot of you actually really loved the track.

Mikey1701 thinks it's "lovely. The melody, the production and vocal remind me of something out of Jesus Christ Superstar. If anything though, Disillusion reminds me that while I might militantly stan (unapologetically so!) for Queen Frida, Agnetha is no less of a queen. She’s a talented songwriter and her vocals are beautiful. Fun fact gerls: this is the only ABBA song to have a writing credit by either Agnetha or Frida! ". I could actually post your commentary and not do any write-ups myself. Thank yew.

Mina calls it "Pretty.", while SecretsOfFatima finds it's "Criminally underrated, like I’m Still Alive, at least this managed to get released. Bonus point for Agnetha’s pronounciation of ‘wound’. Queen.". I didn't mention I'm Still Alive in my write-up, because technically it isn't a part of their discography... More of a rarity than anything else.

That rarity is mentioned again as tylerc904 admits he would have loved Agnetha to have had a little more impact on the songwriting front, saying "It’s so disappointing that Agnetha never penned another ABBA cut, barring I’m Still Alive, because this melody (that’s what she wrote, right?) is rather nice.". Yes, she wrote the melody and the music, but the lyrics are written by Björn. Probably because the good sis was never really fluent in English...
The same goes for Filippa, who thinks "Agnetha should have contributed more songs to ABBA." and even WhatKindOfKylie? had some love to express for this one, calling it "A very brilliant and touching lead vocal from Agentha, and such a rarity in the fact it was an ABBA track with a co-write from her. Perhaps she should have more faith in her abbilites in that respect.". Who's Agentha, sis?

Mumty has already expressed his dissatisfaction surrounding the Ring Ring era as a whole, but finds Disillusion to be a shimmer of light in the dark, calling it "A surprisingly beautiful track in an album full of nonsense about being “just” a girl and Nina the nighttime ballerina.". Okay, but the first one is a lovely '60s pastiche and the second one's a fun bop, seaux...

"Loving the vocals on this one. An early instant track and not getting tiresome. To the contrary... it only gets better." is poor ol' Sprockrooster's opinion on the song and I actually agree with him, as this song took a long while to grow on me too...
ufint simply states it's "Low key quite stunning."

What would a good rate be without its contrarians, eh?

Let's start with our lowest scorers.
First up is VivaForever asking "Who is this wailing banshee and what has she done with Agnetha?", but I'll let P'nutbutter answer ha... "Céline who ?? come through Ags!". From one to another, n'est-ce pas?
And secondly we have bichard yawning "Yawnsome."... Embrace it, sis.

I actually expected constantino to love this one, but he thinks "The vocals are lovely, but this is a bit on the boring side I’m afraid…". Give it a while, girl.

TrueBeliever calls it "Nice, but largely forgettable." and CasperFan admits he doesn't have "a lot to say", but does think it has "a nice vocal, inoffensive". Ever so eloquent.

We'll end things with Hudweiser, who actually has a lot to say about a song he awards cinq points...
"I first encountered this on a budget label cassette titled The Collection Vol. 2 in the late 80s, the first time any of the Ring Ring album beyond the tracks used for GHV1 had seen a UK release, and I thought it was a later thing, an Agnetha demo from the 80s! In opposition to most of their work, I think a lot less of this the more I hear it. It's got a sappy, mousy quality and sounds a bit too moany for its own good, but has enough ABBA magic to carry it through and Agnetha's typical fragile vocal teeters on the verge of tears.".
Things were better when we were less in the know, weren't they?

Matt Pop remixed this song as part of his ABBA reworks and gave it a wonderful '80s spin.

First time I've been tagged as the highest or lowest scorer!

I expected this to be out soon, but I'd rank the song much higher personally. It's gorgeous. I love Agnetha's songwriting.

It's a beautiful track at times for sure and I wanted to love it for that reason, but sometimes beautiful sounding tracks can be incredibly boring. 6/10 it is.

I would love it if that went Top 10 to be honest. My heart stopped when I first heard it.
It's brilliant! The first glimpse of the real ABBA as far as I am concerned. Had never head it before the rate and now I can't imagine my life without it. It's a real highlight of my ABBA playlists.

Well it kind of is now because it was released as part of the Wembley Live album but I know what you mean...I really want a studio version. Damn B&B and their locked vaults!

Disillusion is utter shit. I can't understand how anyone could think it's better than Nina, Brother and People.

I'd say that Ring Ring is the first glimpse of the ABBA that we know. And it was there in People Need Love, not that you'd know from the yodelling and the clunky-as-fuck lyrics.

Would you use my correct pronoun please?
I'm sorry. I don't care much what I'm called on the site, but I can imagine other people do... I'll try to keep it in mind.

I'm trying to make my write-ups as nice as possible, but I'm sure some of you who have already done a rate (particularly one as huge as this) know that sometimes life gets in the fucking way.

Next one coming tonight.

I'm nervous for some of my favourites, especially with some of the blasphemy levelled at Waterloo!
