'We really thought that she was a little fool... And one day we said to her "We don't want to hurt you, girl... But you'd better look for a friend of your own..."'

The Benny-led track Suzy-Hang-Around falls at #92... It was recorded in Sweden in 1973 and was subsequently released in 1974 as the last track on Waterloo.

It's a charming, melancholic little ode to one's childhood years and the innocence it's paired with. It reminds me a lot of The Byrds' Turn! Turn! Turn!... I think you'll find some similarities too if you're interested enough to listen:

That's about it as far as can be said about this song, but what in Frida's name could warrant this song a fucking zero though? It's pleasant, it's perfect for listening to on a spring morning just like the one today and although Benny's performance isn't as strong as it could be, the harmonies in the background are spot on.

Oh well, eh.

Let's start with someone who's speaking sense... It's our highest scorer, constantino, who gets imaginative, saying "Ooh I live for some jingle-jangle guitars, take me gallivanting through the nordic cornfields, a tad.". Yath!
Another poster brings up another kind of fields... "What kind of The Magnetic Fields?" asks ufint. Now that you mention them, I totally see it and get where you're coming from.

The Magnetic Fields and previously The Byrds aren't the only musical groups to be mentioned when people were listening to and commenting on this song. "This Beatles rip off is not getting points for me. Sorry not sorry." says Sprockrooster, of all people. The Beatles isn't really who I'd think of though. Mumty does have a point when she thinks "Having recently started listening to The Beach Boys, I can see clearly where Benny got his inspiration from.". I agree, as the production does have that certain 'sunny California'-quality to it.

Speaking of the production, Hudweiser doesn't like it, thinking "The cousin of Me and Bobby, more kids-being-kids stuff, but kinda crappy production for them? It sounds rushed and not really thought-out."... This really makes you think of Me and Bobby and Bobby's Brother???
Meanwhile SecretsOfFatima can't get Ring Ring out his head either and tells the song "Go back to the second half of Ring Ring, where you belong.". Sis. This is clearly better than 3/4 of that album. bichard goes one further and drags the whole of this song's parent album, with "Or is this the Benny vocal? Shit way to finish a crap album.".
WhatKindOfKylie? isn't here for it either... "Their folk numbers always seem to fall short of what we really know ABBA were ultimately capable of, and so this is alas another example of that. Not for me whatsoever, sorry!" and I guess this could be classed as folk, but I actually wouldn't mind listening to an album of this kind of songs on a sunny day...

Two people who actually had something positive to say are Mikey1701 ("Serviceable and I like the production. But to be honest, it’s only noteable for being the only ABBA song that has Benny on lead vocals. Let’s face it, though- like Bjorn, he’s not that strong vocally. I can’t really think of anything else to say.") and Filippa, who takes some time out from talking about God... ("Nice to hear Benny's voice and really nice song! I like the melody…")
You're both correct on some level.

We'll end with the rest of you who didn't think Suzy had enough problems after being shunned by Benny and his gang... TrueBeliever questions the title, asking "What the hell is a Suzy-Hang-Around, precious? Might as well call this Santa Rosa redux."...
Uno enjoys witnessing the whole thing from the sidelines, shouting "DRAG HA! Poor Suzy.", Mina's reminded of that other icon, rhetorically mentioning "The 1970s equivalent of "Bye Felicia"?" and CasperFan is annoyed by the whole thing, saying "Quite frankly Suzy-hung-around for about 3 minutes too long!"...

In 1974 it was covered by a harmony group called The Anderson Sisters, in no way related to Benny though...

Ja one of the books - maybe Bright Lights Dark Shadows - says he wrote lyrics only for the first couple of albums and then left all that to Bjorn because he felt his words were clumsy and he kept writing about childhood friends, etc.

Next 10 on my shit list:

Tropical Loveland
Disillusion
Gonna Sing You My Lovesong
I Have a Dream
Medley: Pick a Bale of Cotton / On Top of Old Smokey / Midnight Special

These are the ones I want out, along with I Wonder. I'd have liked Suzy Hang-Around to outlast them all but alas.
