Another Björn lead takes the fall at #89. It was released in 1973 as the closing track on Ring Ring, but had been recorded the year before when Björn and Benny were still just a duo and was subsequently re-recorded to feature the girls on backing vocals when the group started to call themselves Björn & Benny, Agnetha & Anni-Frid.
Issued in 1973 as a US promo single after Ring Ring (the song), it featured Another Town, Another Train as its b-side. It didn't break many an airwave over there, but I still find it was a bold move to release this over some of the other tracks on the debut. In the rest of the world, it was the b-side on the single release of Ring Ring.
I, for one, am very happy that this wasn't one of the first out as it's hung around for quite a while longer than I initially thought it would. It's a bop and a half if you give it a chance and instead of sounding forced, it actually sounds like everybody involved is having a lot of fun. Just ignore Björn's vocal.
One of the people who gets it is Mikey1701. Take it away, sis! "This is actually a pretty decent track. It’s nothing special and it might have been better with the girls on lead vocals but I kind of like this. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to listen to it, but I wouldn’t skip it if it came up on shuffle." and I'm silently nodding my head like yeah.
People who don't get it are our frequent zero givers. WhatKindOfKylie? has had enough of Björn's uninspired vocals as she screams "Enough with the Bjorn leads already!!! That's all." and idratherjack who'd had quite enough of Ring Ring as a whole too, shouting "Make it stop!" and eventually sighing "The relief is tangible when you get to the end of Ring Ring. At least I never have to listen to it for the rest of my life which is some comfort.". Come on, did this really warrant a 0 though? Same goes for AGiantSheep. You giant moose.
bichard's also had enough, but is a little bit more sensible about his scoring... "One of the less offensive songs on this turgid album, but still only a 3…"... Oh. Also seeing a little bit of light in the shade that surrounded Mina whilst listening to Ring Ring, uttering "Better this than folk or reggae, I suppose.". Well, you're right about one thing there.
Hudweiser thinks it's "Underrated and far better than most on the album, I think the verses outdo the chorus in terms of melody and the title doesn't really go with the rest of it.". You've actually got a point there. The melodies on some of the early songs are undeniable, but as lyricists the two of them really had a lot of developing to do. And that's where I think Stig helped out a lot.
Some of you were indeed here for ABBA, the rock'n roll band as guitars were praised on PopJustice for once. constantino isn't the highest scorer, but was still bopping ("The guitar-work is the absolute highlight here."), CasperFan is a rocker at heart too ("Nice guitar-that is about it!"), although maybe not as he gives it a single point and Queen of Guitars Sprockrooster is hesitant ("All here for that prominent guitar feature, though something is lacking and I cannot put my finger on it. Couldn't 10 it, because of it. "). Well, you were still highest scorer, so no worries, eh.
SecretsOfFatima is short and vicious, saying "Delete it.", but she's going to be ganged up on by both chris4862 and Mumty as they respectively think "Ok, decent recovery..." and "This slightly swings.". GET HA!
In 1975 this was performed live in Sweden, with Frida on lead vocals instead of Björn and Filippa prefers that version over the original as she mentions "They should have let Frida sing this song. Frida sang it at least once in Ekilstuna 1975. Good one!". Hear for yourselves:
