Anybody notice any differences between the Spotify playlist and the actual songlist? I noticed that the ENHYPHEN song is missing and there's a completely different song called "Daemuga" in there instead. That has to be an error, right?

I literally have no idea how that song ended up on the playlist - I don't even remember adding it. Spotify does odd things sometimes!

Anyhow - I've sorted the Spotify playlist now and re-ordered the song list on the first page. For some reason the alphabetical order from Google Sheets differs from how Spotity sorts alphabetically!

Just a reminder...

And once we get to 10 ballots I will be spilling some tea...

Spotlight on... Bubblegum Boy's Winners

Whilst you are preparing your ballots I thought it would be fun for me to spotlight two of my rate winners. I am also planning to do some spotlight posts for songs that were not eligible as they have already been featured in a previous Winners’ Rate.

Back in 2021 I took on the challenge of hosting my very first rate: The Paloma Faith Rate. 10 voters joined me for a journey exploring Paloma’s back catalogue. I must admit going into the rate I had no idea which song would win, I was sure it would be something from her debut album. The voters actually crowned this iconic song the winner:

‘Only Love Can Hurt Like This’ won with a 9.7 average and received 2 x 11s and 6 x 10s. The track was written by the legendary Diane Warren with Keith Uddin. The track has gone on to be a huge hit for Paloma. The song peaked at #6 in 2014 and then had a resurgence in 2022 after going viral on TikTok.

My second artist rate happened in 2022, this time featuring our favourite fugitive – Janelle Monae. 19 cy-boys and cyber girls participated and crowned this their winner…

‘Cold War’ won with a 9.94 average, gaining 7 x 11s and 7 x 10s! I went into the rate again quite unsure what would be picked as a winner. There was definitely some drama along the way, with ‘Yoga’ making an early exit and previous rate winner ‘Make Me Feel’ only making #16. Cold War is a gem from Janelle and if you haven’t watched the music video, I recommend you get around to that.

Next week I will be sharing some more spotlight posts but in the meantime please continue to get your ballots in. I will be sharing some tea once we hit 10 voters.

Rate hosts - I invite you to spotlight your own rate winners and share why we should vote for them!

And finally… don’t forget, the next Watch2gether session will be on Saturday @ 7PM GMT. Please join us if you can!

Tea Time...

As we now have 10 ballots, I can now share some leader board tea...
  • The top 5 has been very turbulent, there is currently only 14 points between 1st place and 5th place.
  • The current leader is only ahead by 4 points and 2nd place is current tied between two songs.
  • The top 5 currently consists of 3 groups and 2 soloists.
  • There is still one song on 0 points dd.
  • There are also 10 songs on single digits.
  • FL songs are flopping so far (@berserkboi, @soratami, @Maki we need your ballots!)
  • 26 songs have received the highest score of 12 points from voters so far.
  • 5 songs have received 3 x 12 points. None of these are the current leader.
Keep the ballots coming! I will be extending the deadline by a few weeks and will share the new date with you #soon

I just voted and can I say:
  • I was unprepared for the absolute force Girls Aloud is bringing this rate. I fear votes get spread. There shoudd have been better coordination to get the songs in different winner rates.
  • I was not ready for the K-pop excellence. Also I forgot the hold Clara Luciani had on me.
  • I was gobsmacked by the R&B-soul master pieces in this rate.
  • I was reminded Ordinary World is a total bop and could have been a hit in practically ever decade it was released.
  • It was a bit of kii having both Britney and X-tina in this. And one makes you think you want to compare. Yet they both a got a 12 cause they are both their respective magnum opus
  • It still is homophobic Easy by Sugababes is geo-blocked. Points are reduced.
  • I am homophobic for not giving Marry The Night a top 3 placement (meaning 8 points or more), but there is legit no place on top.

Spotlight On...

Marina & The Diamonds – FROOT

FROOT was featured in the fourth Winners’ Rate and came 3rd there, a very Popjustice result if you ask me! FROOT had won @Phonetics Girl's Marina Discography rate with an average of 9.72. The song received 35 10s and 6 11s.

As if that wasn’t enough, FROOT then went on to win @soratami's final edition of the Quirky Pop Rate. In this rate, the song won with a 9.364 average and dominated the rate from the first set of voters.

Next up, we have…

Ella Henderson – Ghost

Ghost was featured in the very first Winners’ Rate, finishing in 46th place. Ghost had earned its place by winning the X-Factor Losers rate run by @VivaForever. The song won with a 9.118 average and gaining 9 10s.

As if winning once wasn’t enough, Ghost then went on to win the UK Ladies #1s of the 2010s rate hosted by the wonderful @saviodxl. Winning with a slightly higher average of 9.183 and 5 11s! Ghost has remained Ella’s biggest song, going triple Platinum in the UK and Australia.

Finally, for today…

The Saturdays – Not Giving Up

Another song represented in the very first Winners’ Rate, Not Giving Up finished up at 62nd. What happened there girls?

Not Giving Up was included as it won the second The Saturdays rate which was hosted by @Daniel!. The song won with a 9.563 average.

8 years later… the song is crowned a winner again. @DJHazey hosted a The Saturdays re-rate. This time Not Giving Up shared the crown with All Fired Up, with both songs finishing with an impressive 9.63 average.

I will be back next week with another spotlight post and expect a tagging spree for those who are yet to vote. I will be extending the deadline by a few weeks.
