The Workplace & Job Hunting

10 years ago today, I found myself out of a job with no notice and no income. I defaulted on all my credit. I was single, with no savings and at risk of losing my house. I was completely at rock bottom.

Today, in my management capacity, I led a training session for the recruitment and HR Shared Services Team on 2023 updates to Keeping Children Safe In Education legislation. I’m married. I own a house.

Keep going, folks. It all pays off in the end.

Also to my former manager….

Fuck you, thundercunt

I'm wondering if anyone can help - it would be greatly appreciated!

So I've just set up LinkedIn for the first time and I'm wondering... is a casual selfie of me in front of the mirror acceptable or is it considered a bit unprofessional? I've just used the same one that I have on all my socials. Or should I take one where I'm wearing business attire? Does it really matter?

Hmm... If you are using it to apply actively, I would go for a bit more professional. It's better for a first impression to be more than less.

A selfie for a mirror is meh... Get a friend to take a headshot and wear something nice. That is what I would advise.

Ffff I thought so just wasn't sure, everything else is so professionally written and putting that photo on there was kinda giving using Word Art or Comic Sans font on a CV ddd

got to an interview early and waited 35 minutes just to be told that their last position that was open filled and they will call me back next week if it doesn't work out....

like that could have been an email and this is why i hate automated systems handling the recruitment process

I got two months to work fully remote but my boss told me no more such arrangements next year for me.

FINE, I'll just look for a new job next year and take what I can get now. I don't understand why they think they're giving me a 'holiday' when I'm essentially working?

I really want to know why I have a comprehensive CV outlining every single one of my positions attached as per the request of the company I'm applying for only for them make me fill out the exact same information on their application forms

Sometimes I just want to write "READ MY CV HUN"

What industry are you applying for? Some are legally required to have an application form. For example, in the education sector, we can only accept a CV if it’s accompanied by an application and have to record and demonstrate our fair and open selection process to Ofsted and the DFE

Been preparing for the past 2 months for an internal secondment that I really want. I had to do a presentation for the first round of interviews which I did really well with, then the second stage was a chat with the director on how I would handle certain situations in the job. He was difficult to read so I’m not sure how it went.

I find out tomorrow and the anxiety I have oh my lord

Nothing. He did say “Tuesday or Wednesday” in all fairness. No news is good news or whatever. Here’s to another sleepless night!

Good luck! I'm also waiting for some news regarding a position I've gone for, the wait is always hell I just want to KNOW

After another sleepless night, I waited all morning and heard nothing. So I messaged the manager from my initial interview (very apologetically, she’s off sick) and asked when I could expect a call…

She said sorry she was still out of office, but she hopes sometime this week. Which makes me think it’s going to be her giving me the outcome and not the director from my second interview. Really fucking annoying that I was told yesterday or today. I’ve made my peace with it either way but my fucking GOD

I had to give out nine detentions during lunch today because people just can’t act like moderately decent humans. I know teenagers are awful but it’s been something else lately, good lord.
This is something I'm very interested in. The teachers subreddit is insane. Sure the shit floats to the top on the Internet but... the sheer volume of reports of age-inappropriate conduct and inability to learn, combined with a general policy of "just graduate the kids no matter what", in the US anyway... nervous giggle.

I went to school in the US and work in a school in the UK and yeah there’s definitely “just get them out the door” vibes in both sides, though in the UK it’s a lot more in regards to telling people how to answer exact phrasing due to the nationalised exams (as opposed to actually seeing if pupils understand what’s being taught). Frankly education is a mess in a lot of places. I know it’s an objectively shit career path that I took a 50%+ pay cut to go into, but I actually genuinely care about the kids I work with so I actually enjoy going to work now, unlike when I worked an office job.

As for those detentions, two girls legit ass told me they didn’t have to listen to me pastoral told them off ddd ok sis I guess that detention I issued isn’t real then. Good luck with that.
