The X Factor 13 (UK 2016)

I can just picture the scenes at ITV now.

"The ratings were down! Get Dermot and Louis back on the phone asap! Offer them triple what they were on! The ratings decline was nothing to do with TV figures being down across the board! Trying to recreate the show's peak will really get people tuning in again!"

Despair.

I'm surprised people have such strong feelings about the host. Dermot can read out loud from a teleprompter. That's good enough for me.

Loved Olly and Caroline, they were all over the place but were really watchable, fun and you sensed they'd be great 2 seasons down the line. I guess that's not really a risk the show can take what with the ratings.

If I were ITV, I'd have tried to get Alan Carr last time his C4 deal was up and hand him X Factor, The Brits and bring over Chatty Man plus classic gameshow revival of his choosing.

I can't see Alan being any good at it, he was crap at hosting Channel's 4 Karaoke singing show last year.

Someone, somewhere, is positioning Laura Whitmore as the next big thing (the Daily Mail are all over her, there was that nonsense tabloid story about her and Leo DeCaprio last week, and she's ITV2's go-to presenter now) so I wouldn't be surprised at all to see her name 'mooted' at some point.

It's a difficult transition to go from presenting Saturday morning kids television or a spin off show to primetime. It's tighter and more controlled, without the freedom of being able to overrun certain segments.

If they don't have Dermot lined up or an experienced presenter and don't attempt another double pairing, then what are they going to do?

The likes of Dermot and Emma were able to hit the floor running, but Tess and Holly were matched with very experienced presenters, in smaller minimal roles.

He / Him / His
Her run on the Radio 1 chart show was truly something, she has such a special, Huq-like sense of humour.

I think this will be a hugely unpopular opinion but I'd love Mel Giedroyc to do it, but it would mean the X Factor would need to abandon the pretense that it is cool.

I think she'd be funny in a goofy sort of way and wouldn't be intimidated by Simon, she'd probably enjoy winding him up.

Craig David would be a good judge. If the All Saints comback is successful I'd like to see Mell Blatt there too or even Nicole Appleton, she helped Louis out a few years back if I remember correctly.

What is a "Laura Whitmore"?

And le sigh...this show is such a mess. The fact that they're even considering backtracking and getting Dermot and Louis (really?!) in again just shows they don't have a clue. OK, so last year's format didn't improve ratings, but move forward, not back.

Someone off ITV2, good presenter but not at Saturday-night level yet.

Dermot would be the safe option.

I don't think anyone has a clue on how to bring the ratings back up. Maybe having an actual winner that actually makes a dent on the charts? For Syco to try to push the winner to significance? Maybe the show is less interesting because none of the recent products actually made something of themselves? That's just my opinion. It's not just the show its producing a real star.
