From a 'Let's try and even attempt to make entertaining telly' - this week, editorially, was a disaster. The viewing public had to wade in and give a totally unexpected vote just to lift it to 'interesting'.

Mariah week might work in the states, but here? A wholeevening of her songs on British telly? No.

It was when we were half way through, and one of the people I was watching with (my age, 22, and yes into all kinds of music) turned to me and said 'I haven't recognised one song yet'.

I'm certainly no Mariah loon, but if your friend didn't know 'Endless Love', 'Against All Odds', 'Without You' or 'One Sweet Day' then I think that says more about them than Mariah's catalogue. I watched with some people who hate Mariah - no one knew 'Open Arms' or 'My All' but everyone knew every other song. 23 top ten hits is not to be sniffed at, as Cheryl Cole would no doubt say.

Oh, and I have read back a couple of pages and don't want to wade on any more to see if anyone's said so, but I think if Diana wasn't the favourite there is no way she would have been allowed through. I mean what would have happened if it was down to the final five or four? She surely wouldn't have been allowed through then. It's a really unfortunate situation but I think if an act they all know won't win had been in that position (e.g. Daniel) then they would have been put out of the competition.

But then what would happen? They'd be one person down for this stage in the competition. Though I'm sure you're right. Hopefully Daniel will get laryngitus next week. I just wonder what they'd do if they had to eliminate someone!

Ruth to win after another incredilble 2nd song. There really is no one like her in the charts at the moment, kind of old school rock. Her potential for marketing all over the world is quite vast when her native tongue is factored in. That performance should boost her through next week at least and then we'll see.

Alexandra was by far the best singing mariah songs, and weirdly, as i don't like him at all, eoghan actually sounded alright. Laura was appallling, it was one of the worst things i've seen or heard ever. she deserved to go in my eyes on that performance alone. When she belts she's fantastic but this quirky, whispering, not really pronunciating any words shit is annoying. As is diana. How fortunate that she got ill during mariah week - probably from over-straining her weak voice to try to compete. I hope she goes next week.

other than that they were all shite. My fave buit was alex's reaction to meeting mariah and simon pointing out that, whilst everyone else seems miserable and crying, alex genuinely is having a blast and that's what we want to see. You've all been given an opportunity, enjoy it!

As for the judges, dannii is getting unnecessary stick and the produers are obviously stoking the flames. Glad thats she's 3 for 3 just to annoy the others though daniel must elave soon. Wouldn't be shocked if she was replaced next year by young make brit singer in the form of will young, a housewifes faves and someon, like cheryl, they voted for.

I love that it was Mariah Carey's week and most of the songs were covers Mariah had sang at some point in her career.

They should really do 'The Mike Flowers Pops' week.

I dunno, it's happened before in these types of shows and the rule seems to be they're allowed one week but if they can't do a second then they're gone.

I agree that it was very lucky that Diana was sick for Mariah week. But I think that it will have weakened her position as ''favorite" people will want her to make up for being off this week.

‘Without You’ is fair enough but I don’t think anyone would think of ‘Endless Love’ or ‘Against All Odds’ as Mariah Carey songs. It was particularly infuriating as it’s not as if there is a lack of Mariah songs suited to the format. Where was ‘Dreamlover’ or ‘Always Be My Baby’ or ‘We Belong Together’?? Laura should have done ‘Vision Of Love’, it would have suited her down to a t.

I've been reading some conspiracy theories online that Diana faked her illness because she hates Mariah. I love that idea.

She needs to win.

I don't get why there are so many stories about Dannii being booted next year. I was EXTREMELY excited about Cheryl joining the show, but on the live shows she has been nothing but blah and seems to talk in boring circles.

I think Dannii is the most interesting judge on the show. There is something extremely powerful about her, I love how articulate and intelligent she seems to be and I always think she makes valid points. Would rather Dannii than Cheryl back next year.

And I share the Dermot hate, have hated him since BBLB such an unbelievable twat.

Especially when various media outlets completely forgot to report Simon Cowell's most recent comment on the issue, which was, "I want to keep it the same".

And of course he does. It's getting something like 12m, which is it's best possible ratings, all things considered - why would he change it? Simon very much lives by the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mantra. Just look at Westlife...

I think Syco's main aim now is to get Cheryl to sign for a second series, rather than who to replace Dannii with. If Cheryl chooses not to sign, then he'd certainly want Dannii back on board to maintain familiarity.

Balls! Even if you loathe Mariah you can't deny that to meet/sing with/sing for/talk to her that you are gonna not?

I want Diana to leave. Soon.

Still no one really talkin' much 'bout my boys JLS. They ain't ever been in last two and that newspaper leak of the phone votes of one of the weeks had them up with 'lil Eoghan and Miss Diana as gettin' most votes. Go head boys!

While I don't much like Dannii and think her contribution to music could most kindly be described as 'negligible', you would have to conclude that she must be doing something right on this show, given that she had the top two last year and is now the only one with all her acts remaining this year.

Without You’ is fair enough but I don’t think anyone would think of ‘Endless Love’ or ‘Against All Odds’ as Mariah Carey songs.

If anything, giving Without You to Alexandra was the worst crime. It's been done every single year and it's just tedious now. There are loads of Mariah songs that Alexandra could have absolutely nailed.

Any thoughts as to what people will be singing for Best of British week?

They said on the Xtra Factor JLS should do Take That but surely there'd be no point in that if there's a Take That week planned for the week after.
I can someone doing You're Beautiful, Angels....can't think what else.

Ruth should definitely do Somebody To Love as someone's already said, it'd be like when Brittany Murphy did it in Happy Feet but better.

I feel so ashamed saying this but Eoghan wasn't that bad on Mariah Carey week.

He's never the worst every week (that's Daniel's place) but he wasnt the second worst either this week, the song really suited his voice.

I don't think you can take away from Eoghan his very, very good voice. It's funny when people talk about him 'not having the strongest voice' on the show. Erm, he probably actually does! He has great range and he's rarely out-of-tune. I suppose what they mean is that he doesn't have a black/soul voice, but that doesn't mean it's not 'strong'.

My problem with him is that I'd never, ever, ever buy the kind of album he is likely to record. There's a crushing inevitability about a singer like Eoghan being associated with Simon Cowell, and I don't like it one bit!

These rumours of Diana feigning illness because she couldn't be able to muster a Mariah track is ridiculous.

Do we not remember Disco Week? Do we not remember that everyone thought she'd fail epicly? Do we not remember that it one of the nights highlights because she completley knocked it out of the park?

I do.
