The X Factor 2023

Well this is...unexpected?

So Channel 5 dumped Big Brother to focus on other types of programming but they pick up X Factor!?

I'd be very surprised if this happened.

I don't see how Channel 5 would have the budget, it expressly has no interest in younger viewers, and one of the reasons they dumped Big Brother was because it took up so much of the schedule and they didn't like the lack of flexibility it gave them.

Not been anyone I genuinely cared about (as in, could be bothered to vote for) on the show since series 5 and I finally stopped watching at the end of series 11, having slogged through it out of habit for years. All the daft (and increasingly cruel) twists they added in just made the show more convoluted and the talent well was clearly running dry. I was left longing for the simpler days of Pop Idol, which I preferred. It was really limping along by the time ITV put it out of it's misery, can't see why anyone would think it was worthwhile trying to resuscitate it again.

Channel 5 have said they're not interested in "shiny floor" shows. The reports of Simon Cowell doing a deal with the channel were suspiciously vague with talk of "big money deals".

Smaller channels want shows they can repeat a lot. Shows like X Factor only really work as a live event. Once it's gone out the repeat value is very short-lived.

Channel 5 is also notorious for recycling content about the Royals / Yorkshire etc under different titles.

Wonder if they'll get Cheryl to spill some of the drama behind the scenes she dealt with. Or did she sign an NDA after the lawsuit?
