The X Factor UK 2014

If they have dumped Dermot, they'd better have someone better lined up. He wasn't engaged in the show at all, but he was at least a safe pair of hands.

It'd be weird to axe Caroline as the presenter of the Xtra Factor and then bring her back as the presenter of the main show. That said, I'm sure I saw her on something recently where she said she had something big coming up, but couldn't talk about it yet. I know everyone always says that even if they don't have anything in the pipeline, but you never know. The Sun are usually pretty accurate when it comes to anything to do with the show.

I'd be happy with a Simon-less panel. He too is pretty stale with every year the same routine including his time on X Factor US.

Oh, I'd be more than happy for Simon to bugger off again, but the producer said recently that Simon is definitely back and he's the only judge confirmed so far and that they were looking to 'shake things up.'

If anyone needs to go it's Cheryl. Nicole was so much more on it, but Cheryl brings the headlines and I'm not ready for X Factor to end yet so unfortunately she's a pretty big part in it.

If they are trying to re-branch/fresh up the show with younger rumored judges (Louis from 1D) and presenters (Olly and Caroline). I sure hope they will drop the old themes and let the contestants sing way more current songs during the live shows.

The Sun: 'Dermot O'Clearout' - they could at least show him a little respect.

I'm actually going to miss Dermot on XF; I associate him with X Factor, probably more so than the judges.

I do wish the judges line up was more stable though. I feel this is what works with BGT - you know what you're getting and they've got a good line-up of both judges and presenters. With BGT, there's a good sense of humour to it; something XF really lacks, especially with Mel B and Cheryl on the panel.

It is odd to think the producers apparently axed Caroline only last year and now she's been promoted to the main show.

A lot of people love Dermot but he's always just been there for me. I never pay much attention to what he does.

I've been a X Factor fan for years but I can't be bothered about another series. It doesn't matter how many changes they make to the format, they'll never be able to change the way the British public votes. The dullards will always come out on top.

Looks like they are going for a major youth movement. This could wind up alienating the older demo that still watch the show, while not necessarily bringing younger viewers back, but I give them credit for being willing to shake things up.

Personally, I seem to have stopped watching the format on TV altogether. I still enjoy checking out new artists and watching them develop, but it's just a lot more time efficient to check out the top few from each crop on Youtube and move on.

I agree Dermot has just been *there* for years but replacing him now could really change the dynamic of the show. I really hope they don't go for a "yoof" presenter, The X Factor needs someone who can play it straight when needed and also keep the programme accessible to all ages.

They need to make up their fucking mind don't they? The last few years pushing at an older demo has been abysmal for the format, particularly Series 10.

I thought Caroline chose Strictly over X Factor last year, was she actually dropped from the show first?
Who'd choose to be a Strictly contestant for three months over a regular job? When they announced she was leaving, they claimed it was her decision, but she said she decided to do Strictly because 'the job I had was no longer mine'.

I think, more than likely, she was probably trying to re-negotiate and then she got offered Strictly and had to make the decision. She was so good and watchable on Xtra Factor that I can't honestly believe they'd dump her. If they did, they're fucking idiots.

As much as I dislike Olly sometimes, I think they're a very good pairing to front it. I hope Dermot takes Big Band Week along with him.

Her exact words were: "The job I was doing was no longer mine, and then Strictly came at around about the same time so, yay - good timing."

Wasn't the story at the time that they were making her re-audition for her role and she decided to leave at that point? So she wasn't dumped as such but she was more likely jumped before she was pushed?

I always saw Dermot as relentlessly on message. He would generally be helpful to most acts, since this is supposed to be light entertainment, but he would stick the knife in the few acts the producers viewed as disposable in a given week by repeating something negative the judges said. (The disposable acts are not to be confused with acts the judges were trying to help keep in via excessively harsh criticism designed to motivate sympathy votes.)
