The X Factor will not return in 2020

Discussion in 'The X Factor' started by Matgo, Feb 7, 2020.

  1. So today it was announced that the show is being "rested" this year while they work out what the hell to do with it.

Surely allow it to return for a swansong series and then replace it with something else altogether?

  2. Oh wow. Didn't they open applications for a 2020 series after it was announced as renewed.

I think they will put the Masked Singer on its place.

  3. No it doesn’t need a swansong. The audience has spoken by not watching or caring about the last 3 outings of it. If anything it should be rested for longer, like no series until at least 2022.

  4. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a few years before it comes back.

It's clear no one cares about the show anymore, and I honestly don't think there's anything they can do to change that.

  5. He should've just given it a grand finale and really hyped it up like Channel 4 did for Big Brother in 2010.

  6. Just give us an All star series with Ruth, Leona, Alexandra.

  7. I'm quite thankful to be honest. Can't cope with seeing Nicole on a show that's been hemorrhaging to 2 million viewers, especially when The Masked Singer US is doing so well. Dancing on Ice since it's come back is like binging on a tub of low brand vanilla ice cream (other than the weeks that had The GC obviously!). It really shouldn't be out performing X Factor, but it does.

  8. I won't miss it. It's been so painful watching what was once must-see TV the past couple years.

  9. The All-Stars edition should've been the best way to end the show, but I guess Simon's ego in trying to compete with Little Mix's show got the best of him.

  10. Thank god!

It shouldn’t even return in 2021 - ain’t no one gonna be asking for it then either!

It should’ve ended on a high YEARS ago like after James Arthur’s year.

Instead, they ran it in to the ground.

  11. Ending on a low and robbing us of Alien Uncovered, Gifty Louise and Saara Aalto? No thanks.

  12. Yeah, they’re great for us in the long run but the show was still trash from then onwards and lost relevance long before that.

  13. I feel it's over, but they don't want to say it. So, saying 'rested' is the safe option.

X Factor is done, and should not be back at least for another 10 years.

  14. I don't even want to think about what Simon will have done to his face by then.

I think The Masked Singer will return in September/October to fill the space; they'll want to strike while the iron's hot.

  15. He does look creepy now aye.

  16. This is ITV. The least imaginative network on the planet.

They’ll do an 8-week run of Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions and a Harry Potter marathon in the run up to Christmas to replace it.

  17. What happened to Matt Terry, Dalton and Rak-Su anyway?

  18. It really did need to come to an end, but..

  19. X Factor just does not work anymore. Retire the format completely, and move on.

How addictive was it with Dannii-Cheryl- Simon- Louis, to becoming eventually becoming the worst boring show on TV.

  20. The Masked Singer being a smash is a very good example that the GP are still totally here for new formats that are fun and easily watchable. On paper it's completely ridiculous, but it works.

I think talent shows still have some life left in them but the X Factor is dead and done at this point.
