No it doesn’t need a swansong. The audience has spoken by not watching or caring about the last 3 outings of it. If anything it should be rested for longer, like no series until at least 2022.
I'm quite thankful to be honest. Can't cope with seeing Nicole on a show that's been hemorrhaging to 2 million viewers, especially when The Masked Singer US is doing so well. Dancing on Ice since it's come back is like binging on a tub of low brand vanilla ice cream (other than the weeks that had The GC obviously!). It really shouldn't be out performing X Factor, but it does.
I won't miss it. It's been so painful watching what was once must-see TV the past couple years.

Ending on a low and robbing us of Alien Uncovered, Gifty Louise and Saara Aalto? No thanks.
Yeah, they’re great for us in the long run but the show was still trash from then onwards and lost relevance long before that.
I feel it's over, but they don't want to say it. So, saying 'rested' is the safe option.

I think The Masked Singer will return in September/October to fill the space; they'll want to strike while the iron's hot.

They’ll do an 8-week run of Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions and a Harry Potter marathon in the run up to Christmas to replace it.

It really did need to come to an end, but..
X Factor just does not work anymore. Retire the format completely, and move on.

The Masked Singer being a smash is a very good example that the GP are still totally here for new formats that are fun and easily watchable. On paper it's completely ridiculous, but it works.
I think talent shows still have some life left in them but the X Factor is dead and done at this point.
